Chapter 2: Then What Am I Even Striving For?
[Player: Suya (Invincible Tyrannosaurus War God)]
[ID: 152120040713]
[Age: 20]
[Vehicle: Shared Bicycle]
[Supplies: Sacred Hardware Hammer, Three Wooden Crates]
[Health: 100]
[Strength: 26 (Barely acceptable)]
[Stamina: 18 (Why not exercise? Don’t you like it?)]
[Speed: 13 (No need to watch the tortoise and the hare race without you)]
[Overall Combat Power: 21 (Low but at a certain level)]
[Status: Slacker (Current Luck: 1)]
Suya quickly synchronized her basic information. She stared at the “Slacker” status and repeatedly read the explanation for it, finally reaching a conclusion:
“Then why should I bother trying so hard!”
Since she couldn’t compete with those survival experts, she might as well accept being a slacker and rely on the buff that status gave her. Maybe she could even live comfortably that way.
Thinking this, Suya felt much better.
After resting a while longer, her energy gradually recovered. She got up and moved the three wooden crates from the front basket and rear seat onto the road.
The crates were heavy, and it was troublesome to carry them all the time. It made sense to clear out the supplies now and just toss the crates into the fog by the roadside.
Just as she was about to open a crate, a system message popped into her mind:
[Random treasure chests of various qualities refresh within the illusion. Feel free to loot, but beware of the special rewards inside!]
“Special rewards?”
Suya couldn’t quite understand. Did “special rewards” mean genuinely unexpected good items, or could it also mean nightmare monsters might appear? Maybe both?
Either way, it meant opening crates was risky.
As a risk-averse, unlucky slacker, Suya hated risks the most. She was a little girl who even needed an invincible version to play games on 4399—how could she handle risks?
“I’ll just observe for now!”
She said this and sat down beside the three crates, taking out her game manual to peek at the chat.
[SleepyEarly: I found a few chests. Two wooden, one bronze. Should I open them? Any experts with strategies? Please, please, please (hands clasped)]
[Player1002: Open them! Go for it! No monsters spawn during newbie protection when opening chests, and your chests aren’t high quality anyway. Just open them confidently!]
[GodFearsMeWhite: CPDD! CPDD! CPDD!]
[The Emperor Has Passed Away: I opened a few iron blocks, wires, wood, a bottle of water, and a compressed biscuit. Water and biscuit I get, but what’s the use of the other stuff?]
[DailyGoodDeeds: Keep them well. You’ll need them eventually.]
[Eye of Landflame: Open the mysterious forbidden! Eye of Landflame!]
[SpeedLife: Idiot.]
[A Game That Gets Younger the More You Play: @SpeedLife How can you insult people? Learn to coexist peacefully, respect others. Does calling others idiots make you smart? (1000 words omitted)]
[SpeedLife: You’re an idiot too.]
[Invincible Tyrannosaurus War God: Hahahahahahaha.]
Suya couldn’t help but laugh.
“SpeedLife” insulted two people with only six words. Such skill, such bluntness, and such precision earned Suya’s utmost admiration.
She browsed the chat a little longer. Most discussions were about what vehicles people had drawn, how far they had traveled, what chests they found and what good items they got from opening them.
Most players had smooth luck opening chests. The worst luck was usually opening an evil twin-tailed cockroach or an eight-legged dark monster, neither of which had much attack power.
This information greatly reassured Suya, and she was less afraid to open chests.
To prevent accidents, she took the sacred hardware hammer from the shared bike’s front basket and approached the three wooden crates. She used the hammer’s body to pry open the first crate.
No strange creatures jumped out, easing her tense heart and letting her focus on the crate’s contents.
The crate wasn’t very spacious, containing only a backpack that didn’t seem very large.
Suya pulled out the game manual, switched to the scanning interface, and scanned the backpack.
[Item: Beginner Backpack (Capacity 200, Non-expandable)]
This was a good item for Suya. The shared bike’s front basket was too small, and she had been worried about where to store any supplies she found. Now she had a beginner backpack.
“Awesome!” Suya was genuinely happy.
Just then, a small red dot appeared on the top left of the game manual’s personal information section. Hating red dots the most, Suya immediately clicked to check and saw that her luck value under the status section had risen to 2.
Feeling even better, she didn’t hesitate to open the second wooden crate.
But as soon as she opened it, a fist-sized evil twin-tailed cockroach crawled out.
Suya was startled and immediately swung her hammer in a furious smash at the cockroach.
Today, only one of them could survive!
— Five minutes later —
Looking at the cockroach smashed into a puddle of goo before her, Suya sighed heavily.
As expected, she shouldn’t be too confident in herself.
Before she could check the crate, the cockroach goo suddenly emitted a green glow, then transformed into clusters of light particles that flew toward her.
“What the hell, is it going to revive?”
Frightened, she stepped back immediately. Before she could retreat two steps, the light particles flew into her sacred hardware hammer.
Suya suddenly felt that her hammer was unclean.
The game manual sounded again.
[Add to weapon slot?]
Suya thought for a moment and chose “Yes.”
The inventory space instantly cleared a bit, replaced by a newly appeared weapon slot.
[Weapon: Sacred Hardware Hammer (Attack Power 13)]
“Could killing monsters actually level up weapons?” Suya had a bold guess but had no intention of testing it.
She was the king of slackers, not a fanatic.
Calming herself, Suya approached the second crate for inspection.
[Items: Bottled Water ×1, Iron Block ×2, Wire ×1]
Just some basic supplies.
Her luck value in the personal info page remained unchanged.
Knowing she was unlucky, Suya didn’t expect constant good fortune. She put the basic supplies into the beginner backpack and learned the individual volume each item occupied.
[Bottled Water: 1 capacity]
[Iron Block: 3 capacity]
[Wire: 2 capacity]
Adjusting her mood, she carried the hammer toward the third crate.
Creak!
The wooden crate opened without any strange creatures jumping out. Inside there was no other supply, only a boxed strawberry cake.
[Item: Fresh Strawberry Cake (A delicious strawberry cake kept fresh in a box, ready to eat upon opening. May spoil if left uneaten!)]
