Chapter 5: How Dare He Open Fire Without Helping First?!
“Why is it him? I wanted to see the big sister from the Splash Squad!”
“Exactly, what’s interesting about a substitute rookie? It must be so frustrating playing from his perspective.”
“He’s got the witch card; I hope he doesn’t poison the seer by mistake.”
“As long as he doesn’t poison the guardian, it’s fine.”
The crowd buzzed again, all because the viewing perspective was from Player 7.
Huang Manyao, who had just handed over the Thought Exchange Squad room, wore a complicated expression.
Although knowing the identity of her own team member clarified the perspective instantly, it also made her feel even more conflicted.
“He wouldn’t really poison the guardian, would he? Hopefully, he can keep it hidden so that holding the poison for a day is still okay.”
Huang Manyao sighed softly but eventually shook her head. “Whatever happens, it’s all up to you now!”
The teammates behind her exchanged glances, feeling a helplessness as if they were entrusting their fate to an unknown rookie.
But at this point, they had no choice but to trust Wang Changsheng.
Or rather, pray his luck was good enough that the poison would land on a wolf...
That way, at least they could gain some points.
[Seer, please open your eyes.]
“Please confirm your identity card and choose the player you want to investigate!”
In the virtual game space, after the guardian and werewolves opened their eyes, Wang Changsheng saw through the visor’s hole that Player 10 had opened their eyes as the seer.
After the mask on Player 10’s face disappeared, he scanned around before settling his gaze on Player 11 beside him.
“Old Chu’s divination is still so solid, nothing to detect...”
Player 10 frowned, stroked his thick beard, pondering carefully, then decided to reveal Player 11’s identity card directly.
After all, Player 11’s team was a veteran squad.
His skills were among the top in his team, and judging from his words, it was hard to identify his role.
So Player 10 didn’t want to take a risk; if the revealed card was a kill target, he would strike immediately. If it was a “golden water” (confirmed good), he could use him to help with logic.
Besides, Player 11 was right beside him, which could be a useful card in the later voting.
After a moment’s thought, Player 10 signaled an upside-down “1” gesture to the judge at the round table’s center.
The screen at the center flashed two characters:
[Golden Water]
“Ha!”
Player 10 grinned, then nodded lightly as the mask reappeared on his face.
[Witch, please open your eyes.]
“Tonight, Player 1’s card will be revealed. Do you wish to use the antidote? Do you wish to use poison?”
The mask vanished from Wang Changsheng’s face.
He saw Player 1’s avatar appear on the round table screen with a wolf claw mark—indicating Player 1 had been attacked.
Pretending to contemplate, Wang Changsheng then signaled the judge that he wanted to poison Player 3.
Whether it was his imagination or not, he even felt the screen’s image freeze for a moment.
Then came the judge’s confirmation:
“The skill you want to use is ‘poison.’ Are you sure?”
Wang Changsheng nodded decisively, then closed his eyes.
The mask reappeared on his face.
The screen paused again before announcing:
[Dawn has come.]
Outside the virtual space, the night’s calm was shattered by a wave of uproar.
“Oh my god! Player 7 Changsheng from the Thought Exchange Squad has the witch card, yet he didn’t save anyone on the first night and even poisoned someone on the spot! How dare he!”
Commentator Xiao Ming’s eyes widened.
Not only him, but the audience erupted, unable to comprehend Wang Changsheng’s move.
“At his position, isn’t he afraid the werewolf might kill a good guy? And not only did he not save anyone, he poisoned someone on Day One! This move shows Player 7 must have absolute confidence in his investigation!”
Commentator Xiao Han’s voice was intense and spirited, voicing the audience’s doubts while offering a plausible explanation:
“I think so too. This Changsheng guy must have identified those two as wolves—one he didn’t save, the other he poisoned.”
“Hey, don’t you think that’s overthinking? A substitute player can’t be that skilled. When they revealed cards earlier, I investigated too, but I didn’t sense anything.”
“Exactly, I think this is just a deliberate strategy. Didn’t you forget Player 3 is from the Dragon’s Gun Squad? They’ve been at odds with Thought Exchange all along.”
“Uh, that actually makes some sense. But isn’t he afraid of poisoning the hunter or guardian and losing major points?”
“Who cares? He drew the witch card. Even if he can’t win, he’s determined to annoy Player 3 to death! Haha, this game is going to be interesting!”
“If you say so, haha—I can already imagine how ugly the Dragon’s Gun coach’s face must be!”
“I’m curious about the witch coach of Thought Exchange’s expression right now. That woman is fierce...”
The arena was packed, everyone chattering and pointing at the central big screen.
In fact, their guesses weren’t wrong.
Inside the team room, Huang Manyao stared blankly at the screen.
Her teammates behind her were speechless.
“This guy... is way too reckless,” said Curly, baring his teeth.
He had high hopes for Wang Changsheng’s debut but now wondered if he was trying to trade one life for another with such a bold move.
“As expected of Brother Wang—a real man. Feeling outmatched, he’s taking down that squad’s fool to vent Sister Huang’s anger,” Curly mused, recovering from shock and contemplating Wang Changsheng’s intentions.
Meanwhile, in the Dragon’s Gun Squad room, Chen Gang exploded like a powder keg upon seeing Wang Changsheng’s move.
“Damn it! What the hell is this guy doing? Is this how you play the game?”
The players behind Chen Gang were equally outraged.
“To spite us, Thought Exchange has gone to extremes. I think we should report this to the oversight committee and have them ban Thought Exchange from competing for the next ten years!”
Sitting on the sofa behind them, the financier with the little mustache frowned deeply, clearly disgusted by Wang Changsheng’s maneuver.
Only Wei Gou, newly recruited, remained calm: “Calm down. As long as Kuang Li and he are on the same side, whether we win or lose, our team will definitely make it to the top 24.”
“Right, there are only four wolves. It’s unlikely Kuang Li would be that unlucky to draw one by chance.”
Hearing Wei Gou’s words, Coach Chen Gang nodded.
He neither trusted Wang Changsheng’s luck nor believed their own luck would be so poor.
