Chapter 42 Advanced Insect Transformation
Beneath the thick fog at T34 Outpost, the Black Flood Dragon convoy was virtually wiped out. Zombies and monsters, mixed with the shrieks of the survivors, quickly turned the place into a living hell.
A tide of corpses, gunfights, mutiny, and utter chaos caused the convoys that had no idea what was happening to buzz around like headless flies, instantly obliterated by the horde and bullets alike.
The fatty and his men had no intention of lingering. After annihilating the remaining viable forces of the Black Flood Dragon convoy, they directly hijacked Qian Yu's large truck. His subordinates also seized several supply vehicles, and combining them with their original fleet, they slammed on the engines and charged straight out through the crowd of zombies.
At this moment, Feng Yuming had transformed into his half-insect mutant state, seemingly exuding an endless, ferocious aura. He strode forward, picked up Qian Yu's handgun, and with two quick *bangs*, casually executed two fleeing survivors before heading toward the platform.
Tang Hai, standing on the platform and watching his men gain the upper hand, had not even begun to relax when his expression suddenly shifted drastically. He pointed in the direction of the main courtyard and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Watch out! It's that fog spider!"
Just as the words left his mouth, a few survivors fighting desperately for their lives suddenly felt the swarm of zombies directly in front of them thin out. Before they could even react, a giant spider emerged from the fog under the lights, and instantly, a limb as sharp and massive as a high-rise tower thrust down from above!
*Squelch!*
In the blink of an eye, two survivors were impaled straight through the chest.
"Ah!!"
"Run!"
In an instant, piercing screams erupted everywhere.
Pale with terror, Tang Hai scrambled directly onto the freight locomotive's cab and shouted to his subordinates, "Yuming, hurry! Get on the train, everyone! We're moving out!"
*Tat-tat-tat! Tat-tat-tat!*
*Vroom!*
From within the corpse tide, a pickup truck suddenly burst out, heading along the hillside toward the railroad tracks, seemingly intent on breaking through by riding the rails.
"Take them out!"
Seeing this, Tang Hai's expression twisted, and he roared an order on the spot.
At that moment, a dark shadow lunged forward, slamming fiercely into the side of the pickup truck. *Boom!* The tremendous force instantly caused the modified vehicle to lose control and flip over!
"Ah!!"
Shasha shrieked. In a split second, Lou Ye grabbed his younger sister, threw open the door, and rolled out as their vehicle tumbled down the hillside.
"Where do you think you're going?!"
Feng Yuming emerged from the fog once more with a sneer, raising his razor-sharp limb to stab directly at Lou Ye.
To everyone's surprise, Lou Ye suddenly sprang up, grabbed his insect-like claw, and with a muffled grunt, hurled Feng Yuming clear across the space!
*Tat-tat-tat!*
Yet another stream of gunfire rained down. Lou Ye immediately lunged toward Shasha on the ground, but a stray bullet tore straight through his shoulder.
"Brother!"
Shasha cried out with reddened eyes, instantly scrambling up to reach for her weapon and fight back.
However, Lou Ye had no time to dwell on the pain. He grabbed Shasha tightly and, braving the storm of bullets, prepared to charge down the slope. Below them now, virtually no survivors remained—only a dense, surging sea of corpses stretching as far as the eye could see!
The gunmen under Feng Yuming were also retreating toward the platform by this point, pouring out a frantic, seemingly endless hail of bullets.
"Such immense strength, but still just a low-tier piece of trash!"
With a haughty, cold shout, a black stinger shot out eerily from the fog. Lou Ye failed to dodge in time and instinctively raised his hands to block.
*Squelch!*
The black stinger pierced straight through his arm. Despite the tremendous impact, Lou Ye did not even utter a muffled groan; instead, he spun around and lashed out with a kick toward the black mist, the sheer force generating a piercing sonic boom!
*Bang!*
As if striking a solid wall, Feng Yuming slowly stepped out from the fog—Lou Ye's full-strength kick had been caught bare-handed! Furthermore, he had used his normal, unmutated hand!
With a disdainful smile, he mocked, "An idiot with developed limbs and a simple brain like yours probably didn't even know that killing ability users and anomalous entities grants evolution. What a pity... you won't get the chance now."
Feng Yuming withdrew the black stinger, flicked his wrist, and a faint red glow began to shimmer along its edge.
"Die!"
"Brother! Watch out!" Lou Shasha screamed in agony.
*Bang!*
At that moment, Feng Yuming seemed to sense a sudden chill and tilted his head slightly. An instant later, his left ear exploded into fragments, blood splattering across half his face, making him look even more chillingly demonic.
Yet, acting as if nothing had happened, he let out a cold snort and vanished back into the black fog.
*Swish, swish, swish!*
Suddenly, several wind-blades lashed out from behind the platform, and a few of Tang Hai's gunmen who failed to react dropped dead on the spot.
"Watch the rear!"
Tang Hai bellowed, and all the gunmen immediately scrambled into the train's passenger cars to find cover and maintain high alert.
The searchlight swept across through the mist. Lou Shasha, regaining her composure, looked at the surging horde of corpses below and the colossal monstrous spider looming in the air. Rubbing away her tears, she frantically pulled her brother Lou Ye and shouted, "Brother, let's go!"
Behind a bluestone boulder at the back of the platform, Lin Xian was currently panting heavily, his face drenched in exhausted cold sweat. The frantic operation of the Mechanical Heart for nearly nine consecutive hours had nearly drained his spiritual and physical energy entirely.
"I knew the two of you must be hiding somewhere. Heh, trying to reap the fisherman's profit? Did you really think having some supernatural ability makes you so special?"
Feng Yuming moved like a ghost, his voice echoing from near and far. The next instant, Lin Xian felt a gust of cold wind sweep through the fog ahead and instinctively fired a wind-blade straight forward.
*Bang!*
The impact sounded as though it had struck a metal surface. Lin Xian's pupils constricted, and he leaped away from the spot instantly!
At the same time, Feng Yuming burst forward out of nowhere, slamming a claw down onto the very boulder Lin Xian had just been hiding behind, shattering the thick stone into pieces.
Without breaking his momentum, he lunged forward, stabbing fiercely at the spot where Lin Xian had dodged.
"Interesting. You possess both martial arts and ranged supernatural abilities. This is the first time I've ever encountered such a strange power."
Treating the situation with utmost gravity, Lin Xian felt a jolt of anxiety upon hearing Feng Yuming's words.
This bastard had definitely killed more than one ability user and had been putting on an act all this time. It looked like this uncle-nephew pair had engaged in plenty of murder and looting!
*Whoosh!*
A piercing whistle cut through the air as a furry spider limb plummeted from the sky, its impact forcing both Lin Xian and Feng Yuming to leap backward in hasty retreat.
*Tat-tat-tat!* Simultaneously, Tang Hai's gunmen opened fire, directing part of their volley at the fog spider and the rest straight at Lin Xian.
Assailed from three sides with no time to react, Lin Xian performed a roll right on the spot, hurled himself off the platform, and dived underneath the train.
Watching Lin Xian's movements and realizing how utterly exhausted he was, Feng Yuming broke into a sinister grin and eagerly gave chase. At the same time, the two sharp spikes on his head twitched constantly, as though remaining on guard against something.
"Where's that little girl? If she doesn't show up now, you won't get another chance!"
So Feng Yuming had been wary of Kiki's intervention all along! A chill ran through Lin Xian's heart—this guy's ability tier and combat experience far exceeded his expectations!
With the corpse tide closing in and the fog spider looming overhead, Feng Yuming knew the situation was about to spiral out of control. Abandoning any further probing, he dashed forward in a rapid sprint, his black claws suddenly elongating as he prepared to deliver a fatal strike to Lin Xian beneath the train.
"Are you looking for me?!"
Right at that moment, a crystalline, ethereal voice rang out. Feng Yuming, who was launching a full-force attack, had eyes as sharp as lightning. Knowing how formidable Kiki was, he instantly halted his momentum and reflexively sidestepped.
However, the anticipated attack never materialized. Following the source of the voice, Feng Yuming and Tang Hai looked up to see the searchlight on the 1130 close-in weapon system atop the bomb shelter fortress suddenly switch on. *Whirrr~!* The sound of a concealed electric motor whined to life, and the turret base rotated with pinpoint precision. The eleven barrels of the 30mm cannons radiated an aura straight out of hell, while their fire-control radar and photoelectric sighting system booted up simultaneously...
This anti-air weapon, dormant for so long, had finally, quietly awakened!
