Chapter 27: Contract Takes Effect, Deal Sealed
Page 1/3
Li Yong pressed firmly on the contract, not allowing Tang Miao to withdraw her hand. "Alright, let’s do this."
So far, he had discovered three safe zones online. The longer the apocalypse lasted, the more conflicts would shift from humans versus zombies to humans versus humans, and even between safe zones.
Such valuable resources were already a loss if he couldn’t obtain them himself; giving them away cheaply to other safe zones would double the loss.
“Let go now, it’s time to sign and fingerprint.”
After Tang Miao signed, she flipped the contract to the next page, asking Yang Sen to sign first.
Li Yong frowned. “Why him? Isn’t this a deal between you and me?”
“All three must sign. For farm transactions, a middleman is necessary. The contract must be signed offline by all three parties to be valid, in triplicate.”
Li Yong was dissatisfied but helpless. Just as he finished signing, a mechanical voice sounded in Tang Miao’s mind.
[Transaction effective. As per contract, delivered: 5 premium black-bone chickens, 1500 points; 5 premium green-headed ducks, 1500 points;]
[5 premium white geese, 2000 points; 5 premium grass carp, 150 points; 60 jin of assorted vegetables, 300 points. Total accumulated points: 5450.]
[Congratulations, host, on a breakthrough in farm operations! The premium plant blind box one-week trial is now unlocked and available for 2000 points. Welcome to purchase!]
After signing, Tang Miao had the chubby and tall lanky ones help load the goods onto the vehicle.
Back at the edge of the tree trunk, everyone lined up neatly, waving towards Li Yong and Yang Sen’s vehicles. “Roar! Please come again!”
Hearing the loud roar, the driver in the car shivered in fright and floored the accelerator, speeding away.
He must be dreaming—his boss actually made a deal and signed a contract with a bunch of zombies.
In the back seat, Li Yong raised the contract towards the people in the car. “See that? Live chickens, ducks, geese, and fresh vegetables. We owe thanks to Li Sanjiu, right, Li Sanjiu?”
Yang Sen didn’t respond, merely folding the two thin sheets of paper and slipping them into the innermost pocket of his clothes.
Tang Miao was much stronger than he had imagined. More importantly, those zombies serving tea and water possessed basic cognitive abilities.
Tang Miao had mentioned she could help zombies regain consciousness. This raised a question.
Where did Tang Miao’s special ability come from? If zombies’ consciousness could be restored by her, could it be possible for them to recover on their own?
Throughout their communication, Yang Sen didn’t feel like he and Li Yong were buying farm goods. Rather, it seemed Tang Miao was placing orders with them, sending them on errands.
Were they collecting water and soil plant samples because these things might change in the future?
Yang Sen dared not contemplate further; he realized this apocalypse was far more complicated than it appeared.
The human-machine in the passenger seat turned back excitedly to Li Yong. “Boss, I just saw those two big trees move, just like in the movies!”

Another subordinate chimed in.
“I looked it up online. This spot was still a university when the apocalypse began. In just over half a month, it’s turned into a forest. Those redwoods must be at least 200 meters tall! It’s so strange!”
It wasn’t only the subordinates in Li Yong’s vehicle asking questions; the group chat they hastily created before departure exploded with messages.
One even sent a video of themselves eagerly slaughtering chickens in the car.
Yang Sen remained silent while Li Yong laughed heartily.
“Fresh, huh? Stop the car! Let’s roast some chickens first, eat our fill, then head back to the safe zone. I’ll fill you in on the farm situation!”
In the distance, Tang Miao didn’t immediately return to the farm but sat down to watch the direction the people from Chihuo Safe Zone were leaving.
The three vehicles stopped. Apart from Yang Sen and Li Yong, six others got out, each grabbing a poultry to bleed and pluck by the roadside.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Six shots rang out in succession. One person reacted quickly and dodged, but the shot missed the vital spot. Li Yong fired again.
Tang Miao squinted and shook her head, just as she expected.
When she sat down to talk with Li Yong, she already understood his thoughts.
Li Yong had considered joining forces with other safe zones to seize the farm, but he felt that if he did, the precious resources within would have to be shared among many.
Before collaborating with others to rob Tang Miao’s farm, he wanted to secure enough benefits for himself.
Unfortunately for him, his plans were doomed to fail.
A university suddenly turning into a mountain, then sprouting towering redwoods in a week—there was no way only a few noticed this.
Most people were observing in secret, waiting for the right moment. There were only 14 days left until the second release of the new human gene.
Tang Miao’s farm construction plan still lacked a crucial component: a water wheel, or turbine.
A small hydropower station stores water at a high elevation, giving it potential energy.
By channeling the water to a lower level, the potential energy converts into kinetic energy, and the flowing water drives the waterwheel to rotate.
The turbine’s rotating shaft connects to a generator, whose rotor spins and converts mechanical energy into electricity through electromagnetic induction.
The generated electricity is stepped up via a transformer, transmitted through power lines to various devices, and surplus energy is stored.
Tang Miao intended to draw water up to a high place for storage but needed external force.
She planned to use her mental power to transport water close to the treetop for storage.
Page 3/3
The falling water would generate electricity, part of which would power the water pump to lift more water, while the rest would be transported and stored.
However, turbines were unavailable in nearby urban and commercial areas. The nearest probable location was still over 60 kilometers in a straight line.
Given winding mountain roads and traffic hindered by accident vehicles, the optimal route had to cross a safe zone.
It was a headache. She decided to try finding someone to run errands while the network was still available, and she would lead a team to meet them.
This could save some travel time; if no one was found, she would have to go herself.
If she really had to venture out, the farm’s operations needed to be properly arranged. She didn’t know how much revenue was needed to upgrade to a mobile farm.
[Current total operational revenue: 6235 points. Far from upgrading to a mobile farm. Keep it up!]
Alright, thanks for the reminder; you can polish it up.
“Let’s go back and do a review, then draft a new farm production plan.”
The tall redwoods slowly closed in again, restoring the seamless tree wall.
Back at the farm, Zhang Xinrou and Song Mingchen gathered around. Song Mingchen asked first.
“Tang Miao, what supplies were exchanged in this transaction?”
Tang Miao held the little one and lazily combed their hair with a comb. “You don’t need to worry about that. As long as we don’t lose out, it’s fine.”
Lin Chaofeng noticed Song Mingchen’s odd expression and quickly summarized the recent events.
Zhang Xinrou silently approved—now that Tang Miao had medicines, she wouldn’t have to treat Song Mingchen’s foolhardy leg injuries. Using mental power on him was a waste.
With a chef improving meals, they wouldn’t have to eat the dorm supervisor auntie’s messy stew anymore.
However, Song Mingchen frowned deeply.
So Tang Miao had given away a bunch of chickens, ducks, and geese for free, and let the others run some unnecessary errands.
After they finished, would she continue to give away resources for free?
He had overestimated Tang Miao. With such excellent resources and abilities, she didn’t know how to use them well, only benefiting outsiders.
It would be better to let him manage the farm; he was sure he could do better than Tang Miao.
