Chapter 33: Investigating Donna and Her Daughter
"Damn it, I was kind enough to warn them, and they actually insinuated that I was jealous of their son!"
Yang Rongrong was no little girl; she could tell exactly what the relative was implying. Furious, she smacked the bedsheets.
Yang Jie laughed. "Don't worry. No matter how arrogant people are back home, once they arrive here, their eyes clear up, and they become quite reasonable."
"Why? Can't we just live peacefully? Sigh!" Yang Rongrong couldn't wrap her head around it.
Yang Jie shrugged. "Please, this is a world of the survival of the fittest."
"Only when you are powerful will people respect you. All that talk about 'taking a step back to widen the horizon,' 'letting things slide to keep the peace,' and 'humility'—it’s all complete nonsense here."
"If you possess all the virtues from back home and the locals find out, congratulations: a 'pushover' label will be stuck to your forehead, and everyone will come to step on you!"
The experiences of the past two days had made Yang Rongrong realize this point deeply. Anyway, if you don't like someone, just blast them; nobody cares if people die. Seizing the initiative is what matters!
Unfortunately, she had no idea that to act like Yang Jie, one needed to be in a special situation, possess status, power, and stacks of cash.
Yang Jie secretly took ten packs of instant noodles from his bag and pointed at the induction cooker. "I'm not used to 'white people food.' You cook the noodles; I'm going to watch the news for a while."
"Oh!"
Suddenly, as if she had thought of something, Yang Rongrong whipped her head around and put her hands on her hips, looking dissatisfied. "Hey, I'm a big star, at least. Can't you accommodate me a little?"
Yang Jie held the remote control without lifting his head. "Do you know Scarlett, Gal, or Elizabeth Olsen?"
"Duh, those are international superstars!"
"Uh-huh, I've tasted them all. Not much of a difference!"
Yang Rongrong’s eyes widened. "You—you’re that awesome?"
"Haha, you lack basic awe for a billionaire with massive cash flow. Go cook the noodles."
Instead of cooking, Yang Rongrong lunged onto the bed, her face full of curiosity. "What about Taylor?"
Yang Jie looked at her with a playful expression. "Heh, I don't want to end up in her lyrics."
"Tch, fine, don't tell me then. Scumbag!"
Yang Jie curled his lip. A scumbag? That word didn't quite fit a billionaire.

Houston Morgue.
When Zhao Baitong first saw Donna Ehrenstein, she couldn't help but be stunned, even as a woman herself.
Donna radiated a gentle light, possessing both Eastern and Western beauty, giving off a feeling that was both aesthetic and romantic.
Especially her perfect face, paired with green eyes and deep brown hair, complemented by an extremely compact and commanding figure.
It turned out that the combination of beauty, physique, and temperament could truly kill.
"Chris, don't tell me you skipped work?" Although Donna was examining a deceased person on the operating table, she spoke gently upon seeing an acquaintance.
Chris shrugged. "Administrative leave."
Donna said helplessly, "No one is more suited to that police system than you."
"You didn't come here just to reminisce, did you?" Chris looked around, stunned by the large number of bodies piled up like trash. "Is there a war going on?"
Donna sighed deeply. "If the protests don't end, the number of bodies coming in tomorrow will be double what it is today!"
"Oh, right, you still haven't said why you're here!"
After filling out the forms, Donna attached a plastic tag with the deceased's name, gender, age, and cause of death to the big toe, then walked over to Chris.
Chris smiled. "I want to go to your house today and discuss something very important with you."
"Don't tell me you're trying to set me up with a man? I'm not really interested for now. You know how many men pursue me!"
Chris took a step forward and looked at her with a very solemn expression. "It is a very important matter that must be said in front of both you and your daughter!"
Donna knew Chris's personality well, and such a serious look left her at a loss.
After pondering for a long time, Donna said she had to wait another hour until someone came to relieve her shift, and only then did she take the two women to her home.
It was a three-story mansion in a nice neighborhood. Clearly, as a forensic pathologist and part-time actress, Donna lived quite comfortably.
When they arrived, Chris and Zhao Baitong greeted her daughter first. Zhao Baitong looked her over carefully.
Her daughter had a completely different style from Donna; she was a dark-themed beauty with unique charm.
Her already aggressive beauty, when highlighted by a gloomy atmosphere, gave off a dangerous and fascinating vibe.
Zhao Baitong didn't know what to say. They were mother and daughter, yet their styles were vastly different. It wasn't about clothes or makeup, but temperament.
After the four sat down, Donna smiled gently. "Alright, I'm listening!"
Chris and Zhao Baitong exchanged glances and began to explain what was about to happen as people currently scouting for talent.
Li Siyao had told her about this long ago, and Chris trusted Li Siyao implicitly, so she naturally took her words as absolute truth.
After the mother and daughter finished listening, Donna rolled her eyes, speechless. "Chris, tell me quickly that today isn't April Fool's Day!"
Conversely, Donna's daughter remained calm, though a strange light flickered in her eyes. After all, no matter how dark her style was, she was only eighteen.
Chris looked at them intensely. "Why would a billionaire sell off his assets in just a few days?"
"Why would someone about to be promoted to captain of the Houston Police Department intentionally take administrative leave?"
"Why would a supermodel about to crack the top twenty list turn down all runway shows and programs?"
Donna lowered her head in thought, shaking it after a long while. "Chris, you should know I can't join some 'doomsday survival game' based on your word alone—unless you can convince me!"
Chris smiled. "We lack people. Strictly speaking, we lack 'normal' people."
Donna: "???"
Chris said solemnly, "You understand orthodox medicine and often go to the range to practice shooting; that is extremely useful."
"And your daughter is proficient in IT, which can compensate for the imbalance of skills within our team."
At this point, Zhao Baitong spoke up. "The biggest reason we're inviting you is that you two are considered 'normal' by American standards."
"Like Chris, you don't like smoking grass, you don't like the LGBT agenda, you stick to traditional education, and you enjoy pointing guns at thugs."
"Most importantly, we have no reason to lie to you, because we are far wealthier than you. Of course, we won't force you; it depends entirely on your own decision!"
