Chapter Four: The Gifts of Foreseeing the Future

A wealthy district in Houston.
Everyone gathered inside a luxurious villa, where Lisa Yao immediately embraced Yang Jie and gave him a passionate kiss.
If anyone involved were present, they would recognize this woman as the team leader at the Houston Police Department during the day—a captain, judging by her rank insignia.
Don’t underestimate the title of captain; for a stunning woman, a captain is mid-level command in the police force, definitely a leadership position.
Handing the USB drive to Zhao Baitong, the latter immediately began decrypting it, while Sophia grimaced as she removed her bulletproof vest.
Yang Jie quickly took out a medical kit and went to Sophia’s side with concern.
“Were you shot?”
Sophia nodded, frustrated. “Damn it, I’m a supermodel now, not an executioner!”
Sophia was once a member of Yang Jie’s elite squad. After stepping down from the battlefield five years ago, and through Zhao Baitong’s introduction, she became a supermodel. After five years of hard work, she had entered the global top thirty supermodels, enjoying both fame and fortune.
Lifting her clothing, a purple-black bruise about the size of a fingernail was clearly visible on her fair skin.
Yang Jie immediately applied some medicinal wine and started massaging the bruise, which softened within minutes.
Judging by the feeling beneath his fingertips and her reactions, her internal organs were likely unharmed.
Sophia, sweating profusely, downed a sip of whiskey and exhaled deeply. Her sensuous lips trembled slightly as she looked at Yang Jie with a mocking expression.
“So this is what you called ‘legitimate business without risking your life’ five years ago?”
Yang Jie smiled faintly, not answering directly but giving her a confident smile.
“You just need to keep trusting me as always.”
Sophia rolled her eyes and collapsed onto the sofa, breathing heavily and exhausted. Five years ago, this level of combat would have been nothing, but now it left her drained. Yet strangely, she felt a post-battle exhilaration inside.
“Although you’re cunning, stingy, and shrewd, I have to admit, you’re a competent commander!”
Yang Jie’s mouth twitched. That was a compliment—no need to repeat it next time.
At that moment, a squabble erupted nearby; as expected, Cui Huizhu was arguing on the phone with her daughter again.
Watching Zhao Baitong sweating profusely as she cracked the USB password, Yang Jie pulled Lisa Yao outside the villa.
After lighting cigarettes, the two slowly exhaled smoke, their faces void of ease or smiles, only heavy contemplation.
Lisa Yao looked worried. “Are you sure what you said is true?”
Yang Jie tapped his temple. “You know I have the ability to foresee the future.”
Lisa Yao covered her head, shaking it with a bitter smile. “The end of the world? That’s absurd. No one will believe it no matter who you tell. How do you plan to make them believe you?”

Yang Jie spread his hands helplessly. “Why bother explaining? We’re all on the same side. Just trust me. When the apocalypse comes, whether they believe it or not, they’ll have to.”
“So what ability are you manifesting this time?”
As Yang Jie’s wife, Lisa Yao naturally knew his secret. Having lived together for over eight or nine years, many things were impossible to hide.
Yang Jie smiled and stretched out his finger, revealing a black ring.
“A ring?”
Three question marks appeared on Lisa Yao’s forehead.
Yang Jie quickly explained.
Soon, Lisa Yao understood—it was a piece of black technology that could attach to buildings, allowing them to continuously upgrade. Essentially, it was like an apocalypse fortress.
Both fell silent. Yang Jie had spent five years fighting in the Middle East, taking on numerous missions that pushed his foresight ability to the limit. Along with what he gained back home, he had acquired six abilities in total.
He had named each ability based on its nature:
Full Body Enhancement: A power obtained domestically, enhancing his strength, endurance, and so on. His once skinny frame had transformed into what it was now.
Weapon Mastery: Gained right after arriving in the Middle East, when he foresaw the camp being attacked. With this ability, he could master any weapon or vehicle instantly.
Steel Bones: Foreseeing an ambush that would leave him riddled with bullets, this ability greatly strengthened his bones’ hardness and flexibility. Many small-caliber bullets couldn’t even break his ribs. Its drawback was difficulty in enhancement and lack of bulletproof protection.
Internal Organ Fortification: After predicting death by a 155mm howitzer shell, this ability allowed him to survive artillery bombardments as long as he wasn’t directly hit. It also made him appear much younger but came with obvious downsides—constant hunger and overwhelming desires.
Super Endurance: This ability manifested when he foresaw a no-escape confrontation with Delta Force, singlehandedly dragging the enemy to their demise. It was one of his top secrets.
Spider Sense: Gained upon foreseeing an assassination attempt, this ability alerted him whenever someone harbored ill intent toward him. However, it had a huge drawback—his future foresight became much harder to trigger.
Foresight had always been a manifest ability, but this was the first time he had materialized a physical object. Though Yang Jie had been happy at first, worry soon crept in. Perhaps he doubted he could survive even with these powers, so he gave himself an apocalypse fortress.
“Are you sure you’re returning home?”
Yang Jie nodded, his face grave. He took a deep drag of his cigarette and exhaled slowly, eyes filled with longing.
“Don’t be foolish. After living here for five years, I never truly integrated into society. I don’t want to die a stranger overseas. Even if I die, I want to die in my own country.”
Lisa Yao crossed her arms, her eyes filled with melancholy. Though she looked foreign, having grown up in the Dragon Nation, there was an unbridgeable gap between her and the locals.
When people joked, using metaphors and allusions she didn’t understand—like ‘Bambi the deer’—Lisa Yao had to look them up online to grasp their meaning.
She had grown up watching “Calabash Brothers,” “Sailor Moon,” and “Blue Cat Red Rabbit Seven Heroes”—how could she know those references?
Thus, interactions were difficult. When both sides joked, they couldn’t understand each other’s punchlines.
“What’s your plan?”

Yang Jie pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to Lisa Yao. It was densely filled with their future plans.
In short, the plan was to take out Paul, interrogate him for the arms depot location, and then plunder the entire stockpile.
Since the weapons were secretly supplied by the military, even if they disappeared, the military wouldn’t make a public fuss.
Yang Jie didn’t underestimate the power of the military in this beautiful city. By the time they noticed, he would already be back in the Dragon Nation. “Come to the Dragon Nation,” he said.
They would gather every means of survival first, then procure large quantities of supplies. Only in this way could everyone live well.
Lisa Yao frowned at the plan’s messy handwriting. “How will you bring things back home? The homeland isn’t like here!”
Yang Jie pointed at the ring. “The ring hasn’t been placed yet. It’s a spatial ring.”
Lisa Yao’s eyes lit up. “Like in the novels?”
Though they lived in this glamorous city, they dabbled in short videos and knew something about domestic pop culture.
“Exactly. Unfortunately, once placed, I don’t know if it can still be used!”
Yang Jie only roughly understood the ring’s function; beyond that, he was clueless.
After discussing for a while, Zhao Baitong called them back inside. When they saw the information in the USB account, the room fell completely silent.
After a dozen seconds, everyone involuntarily gasped.
Inside were dozens of types of virtual currencies: Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, and more, with astronomical amounts listed.
Yang Jie grew slightly excited. “Baitong, how much is it in total?”
Zhao Baitong licked her sensuous lips.
“Based on today’s closing prices, all the virtual currencies add up to over five hundred million dollars!”
Yang Jie punched the air with excitement, clearly thrilled by the unexpected fortune. Then his hatred for Paul flared again—damn him for being such a money trap.
Cui Huizhu and Sophia exchanged glances, finally letting go of their inner unease.
Given Yang Jie’s character, following him was sure to be right, but they still worried a little. Seeing such a fortune, they relaxed. Whatever the situation, Yang Jie had never betrayed them!
Since meeting Yang Jie, the two had even started saving money, with Zhao Baitong managing their assets, ensuring stable annual profits of at least 10%.
After everyone rested, Cui Huizhu drove overnight back to Los Angeles to bring her daughter home.
Though Yang Jie hadn’t said it outright, she sensed something was wrong with the atmosphere.
