Chapter Sixty-Four: My Girl, You Can't Handle This!
After half an hour of playful wrestling, Yang Jie reached out with a mischievous hand.
Five minutes later...
Wang Nianwei’s face turned scarlet. "That's enough!"
"No hidden bug on you?" Yang Jie asked, slightly surprised.
Wang Nianwei was dumbfounded as well. "Do you think this is a battlefield? This is Dragon Country, you've watched way too many movies."
Yang Jie abruptly stood up, opened the door to check left and right to ensure no one was around, and then used a specialized device to scan the surroundings. There were neither cameras nor bugs in the room.
Watching Yang Jie work with such busy and professional efficiency, Wang Nianwei felt it was all too exaggerated!
"Are you representing yourself or someone else?" Wang Nianwei sighed and asked.
"Ever since I got that flash drive, my dad has been holding meetings at the municipal office every day, almost working himself to death. Now the higher-ups basically believe the contents of the drive, they just don't know what kind of apocalypse it is. Do you know?"
Yang Jie reclined in the massage chair, beckoned to Wang Nianwei, and tapped his own chest.
Wang Nianwei’s pretty face flushed, her pearly whites biting her lower lip. After a brief internal struggle, she nestled into Yang Jie’s embrace, looking just like a young couple in love.
And just like that, whispering closely, Yang Jie quickly shared the details regarding the apocalypse with Wang Nianwei.
"What? Monsters?!"
"What? Animals and insects are going to mutate?"
"What? Temperatures could reach fifty or sixty degrees?"
...
"Damn it, keep your voice down. Who told you to shout like that?"
Yang Jie glared at her irritably. Even though there were no monitoring devices present, Yang Jie still adopted the most cautious approach; who knew if there were even more advanced surveillance and listening equipment out there.
With a very complicated expression, Wang Nianwei lay in Yang Jie’s arms, listening to his strong heartbeat thumping like a drum.
"That day you asked me out, did you deliberately take me to a crowded place? That was to clear yourself of any suspicion regarding the flash drive, wasn't it?"
"I still don't understand, why did you pick me? I'm just a beat cop!"
Yang Jie nodded. Regardless of how smart Wang Nianwei was, she at least wasn't foolish and had a brain.
"The last time I saw you at the restaurant, the clothes and bag you were wearing cost at least forty to fifty thousand. Forget your salary; even if you took out high-interest online loans, you couldn't get that much money."
"Get out of here! You're the one taking out online loans! Just based on that? What if my family is wealthy to begin with?"
Yang Jie chuckled. "When your team leader led the squad, nobody else spoke a word, yet you were the one chattering away. If you didn't have a background, your team leader would have disciplined you long ago!"
"Combining all the information I have on you, plus the data collected by top hackers, I know what your family does better than you do!"
"By telling your dad through you, having your dad tell the whole of Shanghai, and letting the entire Shanghai pass it upward—that way is the safest route!"
Wang Nianwei fell silent. Yang Jie’s plan could be called seamless, without a single flaw.
Because far too many people had been in contact with Wang Nianwei over there. Without a god's-eye view, who on earth would guess that Yang Jie was the one who planted it?
She had merely acted on her own intuition to come and bluff Yang Jie, never expecting to actually strike gold!
Seeing Wang Nianwei reach for her phone to make a call, Yang Jie immediately pinned her down.
"What are you doing?"
"Calling to notify my dad! There isn't much time left!"
Yang Jie scratched his head. "Be steady, be steady, don't be so hot-headed. If your dad asks where you got the information, what will you say?"
"Just say you told me!"
"Heh, I won't admit to a single word!"
"Why? Isn't this a good thing?"
"No reason, anyway I just won't admit it. What are you going to do to me? From now on, everything we just said—I won't confess to a single syllable!"
"How can you be like this?!"
Wang Nianwei paced back and forth in anxiety, almost crying from frustration!
Seeing the little crybaby throwing a tantrum beside him, Yang Jie slowly fished a flash drive from his pocket, plugged it into his phone, and began editing a message.
A few minutes later, amidst Wang Nianwei's puzzled gaze, he tossed the phone to her and said sidelong,
"Don't tell me I have to teach you everything!"
Wang Nianwei immediately nodded. "Right, the excuse will be the same as last time—just say I discovered today that someone left another flash drive on me."
Yang Jie directly clutched his forehead in despair. "Think of a reason to say you found it *yesterday*!"
"Why?"
"Finding a flash drive twice while you're with me is too much of a coincidence. The world doesn't have that many coincidences!"
Wang Nianwei quickly plugged the flash drive into her own phone and sent the files inside to her father. Not long after, her phone rang.
The father and daughter chatted for a while, and Wang Nianwei delivered the cover story she had just rehearsed. Right at that moment, her father paused and said in an extremely guarded tone,
"I heard people at the station say you've already been on two dates with that Yang Jie. You haven't fallen for him, have you?!"
"Dad~~~ What are you talking about? How could I possibly fall for him?!"
"Sweetheart, your mom and I have no objections to you looking for a partner now, but absolutely, under no circumstances can you get involved with that Yang Jie. We can only see the surface of his background; what he's really like in the shadows, nobody knows."
"He has messy, entangling ties with the FBI, the CIA, and the US House and Senate. I heard his reputation in war-torn regions is atrocious."
"Listen to your dad's advice: a girl like you simply cannot handle a man like that!"
Wang Nianwei immediately turned on the charm, whining and dragging out her syllables, successfully brushing her old man off!
Yang Jie pinched his chin, staring straight at Wang Nianwei.
"Why are you looking at me like that? What my dad said is true~~~"
With that, Wang Nianwei rolled her eyes, smiled brightly, and said,
"Do you think you approached me because you like me?"
Yang Jie rolled his eyes. "I don't like shorties!"
"You~~~~!"
Wang Nianwei instantly flared up and slapped Yang Jie's arm.
"Can you be a bit more honest?"
Pulling out a cigarette and lighting it for himself, Yang Jie slowly said,
"That time at the restaurant, you were the one who bumped into me. It was purely a coincidence!"
Naturally, Yang Jie had his own little schemes. If he wanted to leave a trail of fire with the authorities, he needed to find someone who wasn't too prominent, someone who wasn't an old fox either.
Only then would she be a suitable cooperative partner for him. As for whether she would leak information? Heh, Wang Nianwei's background had long since been thoroughly investigated by Zhao Baitong.
She had even undergone psychological profiling, and the probability of her exposing him was less than twenty percent—and even if she did expose him, she had no evidence!
Thus, being a bit reckless has its own advantages!
Hearing Yang Jie's words, Wang Nianwei couldn't help but nod. It seemed true; he hadn't actively pursued her, at most asking her out once while everything else was either a coincidence or initiated by her.
"Now that we can be considered acquaintances, do you have any words of advice for me?"
Yang Jie smiled faintly. "Many people have never seen hell. Trust me, compared to the apocalypse, hell is paradise!"
Wang Nianwei's heart tightened, a wave of urgency washing over her.
Two hours passed quickly. As she was leaving, Yang Jie took out a phone and handed it to Wang Nianwei.
"What is this?"
