Only then did Lu Li emerge. She jogged over, glanced around, and asked, “Have all the zombies been killed?”

Shen Bing nodded. Wang Zhendong, meanwhile, led the team members who were still able to walk over to check on the wounded.

The Hope Base was neither far away nor particularly close, but to those who had lost the ability to move, it was the farthest distance in the world.

The Vanguard Squad had rushed out in such a hurry that the only person carrying any hemostatic powder was Wang Zhendong, whose spatial ring contained a small supply.

They sprinkled the powder over the wounds and gave the injured some simple bandages. Those in more serious condition would have to wait until they returned to the base for a healing-type ability user to treat them.

But the most important question now was how to get back. Three team members were too badly injured to move safely, and one of them had a broken leg and could not be moved at all.

Knowing the situation was urgent, Lu Li searched her mind for a solution. She had a motorhome, but it was back at the base.

She had no idea whether it could appear out of thin air before her.

Lowering her eyes, she opened her light-brain. She searched here and rummaged there until she finally found an option on her personal page for selecting the location of the lottery shop.

Once she clicked into it, she could view the real-time location of the lottery shop—in other words, the motorhome. It was still obediently sitting inside Hope Base.

After studying the function for a while longer, Lu Li discovered that she could spend one thousand points to teleport the motorhome instantly to any location she wanted.

This was a godsend!

Lu Li hurriedly spent one thousand points to exchange for a teleportation opportunity.

After a flurry of operations, the familiar motorhome appeared before them. Everyone was stunned. They had seen people store food in a spatial ability, but never a whole motorhome.

The squad leader asked in confusion, “I remember the motorhome was still where we left it when we came out of the base. When did you put it into your space?”

Lu Li shot him a glare. The boy really had no tact.

She opened the door and climbed inside with practiced ease.

Then she turned around, propped one hand against the frame, and looked down at everyone from above.

“Get in. We’re going back to base.”

Shen Bing did not ask a single question. She followed Lu Li straight into the vehicle, while Wang Zhendong organized the team members to carefully carry the wounded aboard.

The motorhome was small, but there was not much inside. Apart from the bed at the rear, the driver’s seat at the front, and a bathroom, the rest was open space.

The wounded were placed in the open area, while everyone else squeezed together and stood obediently beside the driver’s seat, not daring to crowd onto the bed at the back.

Lu Li sat in the driver’s seat, set the destination, and let the motorhome handle the rest.

Shen Bing stood beside her like a guardian deity, one hand resting casually on the back of the seat as she closed her eyes to rest.

Lu Li yawned and increased the motorhome’s speed. She was practically dying of sleepiness.

Half an hour later, the motorhome came to a steady stop outside one of the base’s side gates, which also served as the rear entrance, allowing them to bypass the massive zombie horde in front.

Even with a zombie tide at the main gate, each entrance still had four guards stationed there in case of emergencies.

Wang Zhendong went over to coordinate with the guards. After only a few words, the side gate opened and the motorhome drove inside.

At the main gate, the zombie tide had begun to retreat gradually after the death of the high-level zombie controlling it. Only a few foolish stragglers continued to wander about.

Liu Hongtao’s eyes reddened. He had nearly thought Hope Base would never make it through this crisis.

Standing beside him was a woman of about thirty, dressed in neat, practical clothing. Her hair was tied high in a ponytail, and she had a striking, confident appearance.

With a hint of teasing, she said, “Base Commander Liu, you’ll have to give me a share of the crystal cores, won’t you?”

Her base was the closest one to Hope Base and the first to arrive with reinforcements.

She had brought fifty ability users from her base, along with urgently needed medicine and weapons, and had rushed over without hesitation.

Liu Hongtao swallowed the emotion clogging his throat and said generously, “One-third. Don’t say Brother Liu is stingy—the remaining third has to be divided among these soldiers.”

The last third, of course, would be invested in the base’s development.

The woman nodded and stood atop the wall with Liu Hongtao, looking out beyond the base.

The scene was horrifying. Zombies were piled layer upon layer, resembling a mass grave, and the stench of decay was strong enough to make a person faint.

The closer they were to the walls, the more corpses there were, stacked like successive steps rising upward. Nearly the entire area within a mile of the main gate was covered in zombies.

The base guards had long grown accustomed to the smell. After tying a piece of cloth over their noses, they happily began extracting crystal cores.

The wounded received treatment as well. Healing-type abilities had also emerged in the apocalypse, and they were extremely useful.

As long as the person possessed sufficient energy and their level was high enough, even a severed arm or leg could be regrown.

Of course, healing-type ability users that powerful were all controlled by the Central Base and required to join various missions alongside other ability users.

The zombie tide had come to an end. Everything that needed to be dealt with had been dealt with.

Lu Li found a place to set the injured people down, then drove her motorhome to a street in the residential district and parked it there.

She pulled the curtains shut, completely cutting off the outside world. The system was still under maintenance and probably would not return until the following morning.

Half-asleep, Lu Li went to the bathroom to wash up. Once she was finished, she climbed into bed and fell instantly into dreamland the moment her head touched the pillow.

The next day, with the sky already bright, the system’s voice sounded in her mind. She ignored it, rolled over, and continued sleeping.

There was only one thought in her head:

I want to sleep. I’m not going to work today! I’m the boss. If I don’t feel like opening, then we won’t open!

She slept until well past noon and only woke because she desperately needed the bathroom. Rubbing her eyes, she headed inside.

The door was open, and Little Deer followed her in. It leaped onto the washstand and stared at Lu Li with its huge eyes.

Lu Li reached out and covered its eyes, scolding it in a low voice. “You can’t watch someone else use the bathroom, understand? You’ll get styes.”

“Meow?” [What are styes?]

“It means you’ll get needles in your eyes,” Lu Li threatened.

Little Deer was frightened. It sprang down at once and hurried out of the bathroom, leaving behind a string of grumbling meows.

Only then did Lu Li become a little more awake. She called casually, “System?”

[I’m here,] the system replied.

She felt reassured. The system was the person she trusted most in the world and her greatest source of security.

The system had kept telling her that reaching Level Four came with countless benefits, and it had made her unbearably curious.

It was nearly noon, and her stomach had begun to growl in protest. But she had just woken up and had no appetite, so she bought a bowl of light rice noodles in broth.

Lu Li opened the motorhome door to get some air. Holding the modest bowl in her hands, she squatted shamelessly on the step by the door and began slurping the noodles.

Her posture and expression gave her the unmistakable air of a street loafer.

Every passerby received a glance from her, sometimes accompanied by an added question:

“Want to try your luck on a scratch-off?”

Most passersby merely shot her a glance before hurrying on, pretending they had not heard.

The naked eagerness in her eyes seemed almost capable of transforming into invisible hands, hauling people over and pressing them down at a table to scratch lottery tickets.

After finishing her noodles, Lu Li rose in satisfaction and stretched luxuriously. She looked over to see Little Deer burrowing into its cat food, munching away noisily.

She thought to herself, There’s definitely no way to do business outside the base after that mess. I wonder whether the base allows outsiders to set up stalls inside.

A familiar figure appeared in her line of sight. Lu Li’s eyes lit up, and she jumped down from the motorhome, waving vigorously at him.

“Hey, you—the squad leader!” she shouted.

They had fought side by side all night, yet she did not even know his name. How embarrassing!

The squad leader’s name was Feng Fuzhi. He had come specifically to find Lu Li this time. He ran over with a smile on his face.
