Chapter 36: Nana

He withdrew his gaze and hurried away, his thin shoulders looking rather frail in the darkness.
After sending him off, Lu Li hurried back to her clay-pot rice and carefully touched the pot.
Fortunately, it was still warm. She picked up her spoon and mixed the rice, vegetables, and sauce together. That was when it truly began to smell delicious.
Little Deer leaped onto the table and eagerly sniffed beside the clay pot. Lu Li pushed her away, but she stubbornly came back for another sniff, only to be pushed away again.
Lu Li gave her a stern lecture. “You’re a cat, remember? Cats can’t eat human food. You’ll die if you eat it. You can only eat cat food.”
Still chewing, she pointed toward the cat food—but then noticed that Little Deer had barely touched the food dispensed by the automatic feeder that day.
Lu Li swallowed and asked in confusion, “Are you tired of cat food?”
Little Deer nodded repeatedly, her eyes brimming with tears as she gazed at Lu Li pitifully.
Lu Li’s heart melted. Surrendering, she said, “All right, all right. Order whatever you want yourself.”
With that, she opened her light-brain, navigated to the pet section of the shopping mall, and turned the screen toward Little Deer.
Little Deer understood immediately. She lay on the table with her front paws folded beneath her head, occasionally swiping at the screen.
Five minutes later, the light-brain announced:
“Today’s spending limit has been reached. Host, please spend responsibly.”
Lu Li was so startled that she nearly spat out her water. She hurriedly turned the screen back toward herself.
When she opened the order page, she found three full pages of purchases, all of them pet supplies.
Cat treats, cat towers, teaser wands, paw-shaped litter trays, cat bowls, cat combs, nail clippers, drinking fountains, all kinds of toys…
Lu Li looked at Little Deer, then at the three pages of orders, and nearly stopped breathing.
“Wait, Little Deer. You’re just one tiny cat. Do you really need to buy this much? There isn’t even room for all of it in the house!” Lu Li lamented.
This cat was nothing like her—she spent money recklessly, without the slightest restraint. Truly, one never understood the cost of rice, oil, salt, and firewood until one had to manage a household.
At that, Little Deer pulled the screen back toward herself, swiped all the way to the bottom of the order, and pointed it out to Lu Li.
Lu Li took one look and nearly blacked out.
This cat had actually bought another cat.
And it was a female cat…
Did Little Deer even realize that she herself was female?
Under Lu Li’s gaze, Little Deer pressed the confirmation button. A flash of white light passed before their eyes.
A snow-white long-haired cat appeared on the table. Its fur was sleek and smooth, and it held its head high, radiating an air of nobility and elegance.
Little Deer gazed at her with extraordinary excitement, as though she had just found a long-lost sister.

She trotted over and rubbed her head against the white cat, meowing enthusiastically. Without realizing it, her voice had even taken on a coquettish lilt.
The white cat turned her head away and ignored her, letting out two impatient meows. Little Deer answered at once.
Lu Li rested her chin on her hand and listened from the side. The general meaning seemed to be: How have you been here? Has this human been treating you well?
If Lu Li had not been able to understand cat language, judging only from the white cat’s expression and tone, one might have thought she was thoroughly disgusted with Little Deer.
Lu Li relaxed. Apparently, the two of them really were good sisters.
She had no choice but to get up and take out all the things Little Deer had bought. She even assembled a cat tower that nearly reached the ceiling of the vehicle.
Looking at the pet supplies occupying half the motorhome, Lu Li fell into deep thought.
This place was still far too small!
She put the cat tower away for the moment, arranged the rest of the items, and tried her best to leave a passageway clear.
By the time she finished, it was nearly eleven o’clock. Lu Li rubbed her aching lower back and slowly straightened up.
When she turned around, she saw the white cat walking ahead with an air of aristocratic dignity, while Little Deer followed behind her, trotting along with bright spirits.
They really were… two good cats.
Inwardly, Lu Li gave the white cat a name. Then she asked aloud, “How about I call you Little Ku? It sounds cool.”
The white cat shook her head, glanced at Little Deer, and meowed several times.
“Tell this human that I already have a name. I’m Nannan.”
Lu Li clapped her hands. “All right, Nannan it is.”
Nannan looked at her in astonishment, then turned to Little Deer.
“This human can actually understand what we’re saying?”
Little Deer nodded hurriedly.
Nannan’s expression fell. That meant everything she had just asked this stupid cat had been overheard!
With elegant steps, she returned to the new cat bed Little Deer had bought for her without sparing Lu Li another glance, either out of embarrassment or sheer shame.
Lu Li could not help laughing. She quickly covered her mouth so Nannan would not hear, grabbed her clothes, and went into the bathroom to wash up.
The white cat curled up in the soft bed, turning her head toward the inside. She was a little angry.
That stupid cat had not even told her!
The sun rose, bringing a new day. Sunlight streamed into the motorhome, forming square patches of light across the floor.
Little Deer lay in one of them and called Nannan over to bask in the sun as well. The two cats each occupied a patch of light, their expressions blissful.
When Lu Li woke in a daze, this was the scene she saw. Her heart softened at once.
Nannan noticed her. She did not get up or offer a greeting, merely stiffening slightly before quickly relaxing again.

Lu Li paid no attention to these little thoughts. If they stayed here long enough, they would soon fit in. All they had to do was be themselves.
After washing up, Lu Li opened the motorhome door and let the sunlight stream inside. She closed her eyes contentedly and allowed the morning sun to bathe her.
It felt as though the sunlight had cleansed her entire body, leaving her refreshed from the inside out.
“Boss Lu, good morning! Are you open yet?” a voice called from nearby, growing louder as it approached.
Lu Li opened her eyes. The newcomer looked familiar, but she could not recall his name.
“Almost, almost. Give me a moment,” she replied.
Today, she planned to leave the base. The base was all right, but wherever there were too many people, conflicts were bound to arise.
The previous day, two people had come to blows over a single scratch-off lottery ticket.
Lu Li had watched the spectacle in fascination, unable to understand what there was to fight over. It was still unscratched—they did not even know what was inside.
She had found it utterly ridiculous, but she still had to step in and mediate, lest they overturn her stall.
Lu Li went back into the motorhome and then came out again. “I’ll be selling at the base entrance today. If you want a scratch-off ticket, go wait for me there.”
“All right!”
The man took her advice without question and trotted away.
Lu Li sent a message to the group, informing everyone that today’s sales location was at the entrance to Hope Base.
Then she drove the motorhome toward the main gate. Feng Fuzhi’s squad was on duty that day, and upon seeing the motorhome, they waved her straight through.
For the first time, Lu Li felt the value of personal connections. Glancing back, she saw that everyone else entering or leaving the base had to undergo inspection.
After an entire day of cleanup, the area outside the base had already returned to normal, though a faint smell of corpses still lingered in the air.
She heard that every spatial ability user in the base had been summoned, and that storage devices had been used to contain the zombie corpses.
They had been transported to the garbage incineration facility at the far end of the base and burned. That was how the matter had been dealt with.
Lu Li parked the motorhome and activated the safety zone with a single command. Inside it, the air was fresh, and the temperature was slightly lower than outside.
She first took out the four sets of tables and chairs and arranged them neatly. Then she brought out the long table from the previous day as well, determined to give the early customers a pleasant experience.
