In the photo, the sunset cast a gentle, lazy glow over the camper van and the convenience store.
In front of the camper, customers gathered in circles; some were biting eagerly into peaches, others were stuffing bright red apples into their arms.
More outrageous still, some crouched in corners, devouring fast food as if in a frenzy—who could stand that?
Everyone’s faces were lit with satisfied smiles. If one didn’t know better, no one would guess this was the end of the world.
In the lower right corner of the photo were a pair of hands resting on the table, smiling softly ahead—Lu Li, her side dimples faintly visible.
The sunset bathed her in a faint halo, adding a glimmer of hope.
After Luo Mu sent the photo, he closed his light-brain and went back to eating noodles, alternating between two cups—pure bliss.
He finished the two cups quickly and ran up to Shen Bing, declaring, “I’m not leaving! I’m staying here!”
“Get lost.” Shen Bing, ever mindful of Boss Lu’s words, didn’t want to see Luo Mu.
Luo Mu clung to his arm, whining, “I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving. I want to eat instant noodles here forever!”
Shen Bing frowned and pulled his hand away impatiently. “You accepted Liu Wenchun’s mission.”
He waved his hand dismissively. “What does she matter? I’ll find her tonight and return the deposit.”
Shen Bing finally felt satisfied. He didn’t want anyone to hurt Boss Lu, even if it was Luo Mu, his longtime friend.
Seeing Shen Bing silent, Luo Mu knew he agreed, but the next second, he heard Shen Bing’s cold voice:
“No, you still have to leave. Boss Lu doesn’t want to see you.” Shen Bing pushed him outside.
“Shen Bing, you traitor! I’ll apologize to Boss Lu myself!” Luo Mu changed direction, circumventing him.
Before Shen Bing could react, Luo Mu dashed toward the camper, glancing back with a cheeky grin.
Shen Bing sighed and chased after him, needing to stay close to prevent Luo Mu from spouting nonsense again.
“Boss Lu!” Luo Mu was smarter now, standing outside the camper, grinning as he called.
Lu Li glanced at him sideways, clearly annoyed. “What do you want again?”
Luo Mu’s smile didn’t waver. “Boss Lu, let me stay and work for you! I’m very hardworking!”
“No way. What if you try to kill me again?” Lu Li rejected him decisively. “Go away, or I’ll kill you myself.”

No sooner had she spoken than Shen Bing rushed up and dragged Luo Mu away. “I’ll get rid of him!”
Fate gripped Luo Mu’s throat as he was pulled off, and Lu Li clapped her hands. “Still want to work for me? Dream on.”
As it neared eight, Lu Li prepared to close up when Chu Lisheng appeared: crew cut, calm eyes, simple clothes, a silent aura.
Seeing him, Lu Li gathered the scattered scratch cards on the square table, neatly stacking them in front of her.
As expected, Chu Lisheng picked them up and quickly scanned the number of cards, intending to exchange them for crystal cores.
Lu Li held up the scanner toward him; a beep sounded, activating his membership card.
Chu Lisheng looked at her, puzzled, and said the first words he had spoken to her: “Why?” If he hadn’t sensed no harm in it, he would have crushed it instantly.
“To view the light-brain.” Lu Li replied briefly.
“No thanks.” Chu Lisheng refused, paid the corresponding crystal cores, put away the scratch cards, then took out a batch of already scratched cards from his space storage. His eyes flicked over them, but no lucky wins appeared.
Lu Li beamed proudly. “Young man, you’re out of date. Our store now has an automatic scratch card machine. Go redeem your prizes there.”
She nodded toward two machines standing a few meters away.
Chu Lisheng walked over; the screen displayed operation prompts. One by one, he scanned the cards, and occasionally, rewards popped out of the bottom slot.
After scanning all the cards, he collected the prizes and turned to leave without taking so much as a cloud with him.
Lu Li’s eyes widened as she stared at his neatly shaved head, muttering, “What a character! I like him!”
Shen Bing led Da Dong over, only catching the last three words and instinctively asked, “Like what?” Then he glanced at the retreating figure—familiar somehow.
Suddenly, alarm bells rang in his mind. Isn’t this Chu Lisheng? The top-ranked expert on the leaderboard, rumored to be an eighth-tier ability user, though no one truly knew his real strength.
Such a formidable figure liking scratch cards?
Indeed, the Chinese Ability User Leaderboard was filled with top-tier names like Luo Mu, Shen Bing, and Chu Lisheng, all ranked within the top twenty.
This leaderboard was launched by the Central Base to encourage everyone to train hard. Making the list earned corresponding crystal core rewards and supplies.
It updated daily, with headshots beside the names—explaining why Shen Bing, a lone wolf, was so well known.
Lu Li shook her head. “Never mind.” She withdrew her gaze and looked at the two little ones. “You must be hungry after all that work this afternoon?”
“Not hungry! I can still go on!” Da Dong was enthusiastic—this was way more fun than the little courtyard!

“Me too.” Xiao Di shook his head as well.
“Boss Lu,” a weak voice came from outside. All four inside the camper turned to look. It was Ning Meng.
His face and body bore signs of simple treatment for injuries, his entire face wrapped like a mummy, his voice muffled, completely lacking the arrogance he showed earlier.
“Here’s your crystal cores.” Ning Meng placed a large hemp sack on the ground, unable to meet their scrutinizing gazes, and fled hastily.
Shen Bing carried the sack of crystal cores inside. Lu Li didn’t even glance at it. “Put it in the warehouse.”
This was the new storage area added on the first floor after upgrading to level four, used for storing items.
Meanwhile, Ning Meng limped away from the camper area. Just as he turned into a narrow alley, someone covered his mouth and dragged him away like a corpse.
“Mmm mmm mmm—” Ning Meng struggled, eyes wide with terror.
After a long while, the dragging ceased. Ning Meng was thrown roughly to the ground. Before he could react, a group rushed forward, beating him relentlessly.
“Who are you? How dare you hit me!” Ning Meng yelled stubbornly.
“You bastard stole our crystal cores and still ask who we are?”
“Dare to steal my crystal cores? You want to die, huh?”
“Wow, how did you get the guts?”
Ning Meng dared not reply, desperately shielding his head with both hands. The crystal cores he gave to Lu Li were all stolen, robbed, or tricked from others, and he even borrowed from a loan shark.
Compared to the loan shark, Ning Meng feared Lu Li’s unknown, terrifying methods even more. He was scared to death...
...
Hope Base, core area.
A dark alley. Blonde hair stood out even in the darkness. Luo Mu impatiently repeated, “Miss Liu, I can’t take this mission. Find someone else!”
