Chapter 30: Lin Wanqing!

Just as Su Bai was thinking about all this, the other party seemed to sense her presence as well.
The footsteps suddenly stopped. A moment later, a deep voice rang out. “Who’s there? Come out!”
Su Bai’s heart tightened. She knew she had been discovered.
She took a deep breath, slowly rose to her feet, and switched on her flashlight.
The beam illuminated the other person, allowing Su Bai to see her clearly.
She was a slender woman with delicate, gentle features, the sort who seemed to need protection.
Yet at that moment, she was gripping an iron hammer, and a fierce glint shone in her eyes.
Her gaze remained fixed on Su Bai, filled with wariness and caution.
Su Bai made no rash move. Instead, she immediately used Appraisal Eye to inspect the woman’s information.
She needed to confirm whether the woman possessed a class or any combat abilities so she could decide how to respond.
[Player: Lin Wanqing]
[Level: 0]
[Talent: None]
[Class: None]
[Skills: None]
Seeing the data, Su Bai breathed a sigh of relief.
Lin Wanqing’s current status was exactly the same as Su Bai’s own had been before she acquired a class. She possessed no combat ability whatsoever.
That meant Su Bai had nothing to worry about.
However, the instant she relaxed her guard, the woman’s name suddenly flashed through her mind—Lin Wanqing.
She had seen that name somewhere before!
“Lin Wanqing? It’s her! The heroine from the novel in Li Weiwei’s memories!”
Su Bai’s heart jolted, and a flicker of surprise crossed her eyes.
She had never expected to encounter the heroine from the novel here.
According to Lin Weiwei’s memories, Lin Wanqing was one of the novel’s central figures. She possessed extraordinary talent and potential, and would eventually become a key figure in humanity’s struggle against the Calamity System.
Yet at this moment, Lin Wanqing had not acquired a class. She was still an ordinary person.
“I can’t believe it’s really her,” Su Bai murmured, her feelings somewhat complicated.
She knew that Lin Wanqing’s future would be anything but ordinary. But for now, she was merely an ordinary person like Su Bai, struggling to survive while gathering supplies.
At present, Lin Wanqing held an iron hammer in one hand and wore a bulging backpack on her back. Clearly, she had already collected a considerable amount of supplies from the shopping mall.

It could only be said that the courage and decisiveness of someone destined to become the heroine were truly extraordinary.
Even without acquiring a class, she had dared to remain in Linghai City, scavenging for supplies.
Su Bai had only dared to stay because she had acquired the Beast Tamer class, which gave her some assurance of her own safety.
Lin Wanqing’s gaze remained wary. However, upon seeing that Su Bai was a woman, her expression relaxed slightly.
Even so, she did not lower her guard completely. The iron hammer remained clenched tightly in her hand.
Lin Wanqing was clearly nervous about Su Bai’s sudden appearance, but she displayed no hostility.
She glanced at Su Bai’s empty hands and assumed that Su Bai had not found any useful supplies. She took the initiative to say, “I’ve already searched the shops over there. The owners must have taken everything with them when they evacuated, so there’s nothing useful left. You’d only be wasting your time going there. You should search over here instead.”
There was a trace of weariness in Lin Wanqing’s voice, but her expression had softened somewhat.
Su Bai’s heart stirred faintly at her words.
She had not expected Lin Wanqing to offer her a warning.
She nodded and replied evenly, “Is that so? Then thank you. In that case, I was just about to enter this outdoor-goods store. Would you like to look inside together?”
Su Bai pointed toward the shop behind her, a hint of probing in her voice.
Su Bai knew that although Lin Wanqing had yet to acquire a class, her potential was not to be underestimated.
If she could build a good relationship with her, perhaps the road to survival in the future would become much smoother.
One more friend meant one more way forward. It was certainly better than having one more enemy.
Lin Wanqing hesitated when she heard the invitation.
She clearly still harbored some suspicion toward Su Bai.
At last, she nodded cautiously. “All right. Let’s take a look together.”
The outdoor-goods store was likewise blocked by a thick glass door.
Su Bai had no way to open it, but Lin Wanqing simply raised the iron hammer in her hand and brought it crashing down on the glass.
The door barring their way shattered instantly.
The two women entered the outdoor-goods store one after the other. Their flashlight beams swept across the shop, illuminating the various pieces of equipment on the shelves.
Clearly, the shopkeeper had left behind a great deal of merchandise while evacuating.
And what remained was extremely useful.
Tents, sleeping bags, hiking backpacks, portable stoves… Such items were exceptionally valuable for surviving in the wilderness.
Su Bai and Lin Wanqing’s eyes lit up when they saw them.
“These are all incredibly useful!” Lin Wanqing said happily.
“Indeed.”

As she spoke, Lin Wanqing began gathering everything they could carry away.
There were plenty of supplies, more than enough for both of them to choose from.
The two women tacitly split up and began searching separately, collecting as many useful items as possible.
Su Bai’s objective was clear: she wanted to find anything that could help her start a fire and cook after the electricity and gas had been cut off.
Her flashlight beam swept across the shelves before finally stopping at several portable butane stoves.
“Wonderful. This is exactly what I need!”
A spark of delight flashed through Su Bai’s eyes.
The electricity at home had already been cut off, and the gas was nearly gone. With these portable stoves, she would be able to cook even without electricity or a gas supply.
She quickly put several stoves away, then found several crates of butane canisters.
The canisters were fuel for the portable stoves, and there was enough to last her for a very long time.
Su Bai placed the canisters into her backpack one by one, feeling a sense of security settle over her.
“With these, at least I won’t have to worry about cooking,” she murmured, continuing to search the shop.
In truth, Su Bai had also taken a fancy to many of the camping supplies, such as tents, sleeping bags, and hiking backpacks.
All of them would prove useful in surviving outdoors in the future.
However, with Lin Wanqing present, Su Bai could not reveal the existence of her Thief Space ability.
She knew all too well how precious such an ability was. It absolutely could not be exposed lightly.
“I’ll secretly move these into my space when Lin Wanqing isn’t paying attention,” Su Bai calculated inwardly, continuing to pretend as though she were searching without a care.
Just then, Lin Wanqing suddenly cried out, “Hey! Come over here!”
Su Bai’s heart tightened, and she hurried over. “What is it?”
When she reached Lin Wanqing’s side, she saw that Lin Wanqing had lifted the flap of a tent. Hidden inside were two large crates of supplies.
One crate was filled with compressed biscuits, while the other contained sausages!
“There’s still this much food left?”
A look of astonishment flashed through Su Bai’s eyes.
She had never expected to find such precious food supplies in an outdoor-goods store.
Delight also spread across Lin Wanqing’s face. “It looks like the shopkeeper hid these when evacuating. We’re really lucky!”
Su Bai nodded, feeling a wave of relief.
“Let’s split them evenly,” Lin Wanqing suggested, her tone carrying a sense of fairness.
Su Bai had not expected Lin Wanqing to make such a decision. After all, she was the one who had found the supplies.
