The system’s prompt continued to echo in Su Bai’s mind, as though reminding her that her companions were also constantly striving to grow stronger.
[Ping! Congratulations, player! Your beast companion White Jade has met the conditions for advancement. Level +1!]
At the sound of the prompt, a flicker of delight crossed Su Bai’s eyes.
She had not expected that, in addition to Pearl leveling up and learning a new skill, White Jade would advance as well.
This showed that Sky Tyrant’s battles outside with Pearl and White Jade had gone exceptionally smoothly—efficiently, even.
“Pearl and the others are working hard to become stronger, too!” Su Bai murmured, a wave of comfort rising in her heart.
She knew that her companions had not slacked off simply because they were acting separately. Instead, each was doing their part to ease her burden in their own way.
What surprised Su Bai even more was that Pearl had learned a new skill.
She immediately opened Pearl’s status panel and carefully examined its updated data.
[Monster: Singing Bird] (Pearl)
Level: 3
Talent: Enchanting Voice: Produces a captivating sound that relaxes the minds of those who hear it.
Skills:
1. Singing: Sings a soothing and beautiful melody that places opponents into a sleeping state.
2. Sonic Impact: Releases terrifying sound waves to strike opponents, with a certain chance of causing them to faint.
Upon seeing Pearl’s newly acquired skill, a spark of excitement appeared in Su Bai’s eyes.
Compared with the previous [Singing] skill, [Sonic Impact] was clearly far more offensive. It could directly inflict damage on enemies in battle and even had a chance of rendering them unconscious.
“This makes Pearl much stronger in combat as well,” Su Bai said softly, pride coloring her voice.
She knew that although Pearl looked small and adorable, its strength was absolutely not to be underestimated.
With each level gained, Pearl was becoming more powerful.
With this new skill, Pearl would play an even greater role in future battles.
Su Bai glanced up at the sky and realized that evening was approaching.
She decided to prepare a sumptuous dinner for her three little companions as a reward for all their hard work.
From the [Thief-Thief Space], she took out the Sang Sang leaves and Bun Bun mushrooms she had obtained earlier in the Misty Forest, along with the ham sausages she had collected that day. She then began preparing a suitable dinner for each pet.
“White Jade likes Sang Sang leaves best, Pearl likes meat, and Sky Tyrant is especially fond of ham sausages,” Su Bai murmured as she busied herself.
Of course, those were not the only ingredients.
She washed the Sang Sang leaves, cut them into small pieces, and placed them in White Jade’s food dish.

Then she sliced the ham sausages and paired them with Bun Bun mushrooms to make a simple dish, dividing it between Pearl and Sky Tyrant.
“Tomorrow I’ll gather more Mist Rabbit meat. That way, we won’t have to worry about running short of food on the road during the evacuation,” Su Bai calculated silently.
She knew that the road ahead would be filled with challenges, but as long as she and her companions continued striving together, they would certainly overcome every difficulty.
The reason Su Bai was working so desperately to gather food was that she had seen the complaints flooding the internet.
Once inside a safe zone, many things were subject to strict restrictions.
Food was centrally managed, and obtaining it required an exchange of labor. Money was no longer of any use.
“In the safe zones, food isn’t the only thing that becomes scarce,” Su Bai murmured, a trace of helplessness in her voice.
She knew that once she entered a safe zone, her life would no longer be as free as it was now.
Therefore, she had to prepare in advance, collecting as much food and as many supplies as possible to face the uncertainties of the future.
“But with these supplies, we can at least hold out for a while.” Su Bai gazed at the lavish dinner on the table, feeling a sense of security settle over her.
Just then, Sky Tyrant, Pearl, and White Jade returned home one after another.
A calm light gleamed in Sky Tyrant’s single eye. Pearl flew cheerfully onto Su Bai’s shoulder and gently pecked her ear, as though saying, “We’re back!” White Jade wriggled its body over to Su Bai’s hand and made a faint hissing sound, looking exceptionally obedient.
Smiling, Su Bai stroked their heads and said gently, “You’ve worked hard. Come and eat.”
Sky Tyrant still maintained its aloof demeanor, but it soon blended into the warm atmosphere.
The three little companions immediately gathered around the table and began enjoying the dinner Su Bai had prepared for them.
Watching them eat with such enthusiasm, Su Bai felt deeply satisfied.
Candlelight bathed the scene, making everything seem so beautiful.
Yet Su Bai was also thinking about her next move.
She walked to the window and looked out at the city shrouded in mist, her brows drawing together slightly.
“Leaving Linghai City is unavoidable, but where should I go?”
Go home?
The thought had barely surfaced before she rejected it herself.
So much time had passed since the natural disaster began, yet neither of her divorced parents had contacted her even once.
To say she was not hurt would be a lie.
Su Bai shook her head.
“For now, I’ll head to the nearest safe zone and take a look.”
She picked up her tablet and carefully reviewed the latest information about the safe zones.

The closest safe zone to Linghai City was the [Emerald Ridge Safe Zone], an official refuge named after Emerald Ridge City.
According to information online, it had already established a relatively complete defense system and living infrastructure.
Thinking about the evacuation, Su Bai immediately took out her phone and sent Lin Wanqing a message:
[Su Bai: Lin Wanqing, I’m planning to leave Linghai City in three days. There happens to be a group of soldiers traveling with us. Are you coming? It’ll be safer if we go together.]
The reply arrived shortly after she sent it.
[Lin Wanqing:!! Really? If that’s the case, then of course I agree.]
[Su Bai: Good. We’ll contact each other in three days!]
[Lin Wanqing: Okay!]
Over the next three days, Su Bai did not have a moment to spare.
She continued searching for supplies throughout Linghai City, determined to fill the [Thief-Thief Space] to the brim.
From supermarkets to pharmacies, from hardware stores to clothing shops, she ran through nearly the entire city.
At the same time, Pearl, Sky Tyrant, and the other beast companions trained and leveled up in the Misty Forest every day.
Sky Tyrant led Pearl and White Jade in hunting low-level monsters along the forest’s outskirts. This ensured their safety while allowing them to gain experience steadily.
On the final day before the evacuation, Su Bai personally entered the Misty Forest to gather supplies.
She deliberately hunted a large number of Mist Rabbits to build up a reserve of fresh meat.
She also collected a great many leaves from Poison Vine Sang Sang trees for White Jade—enough to last it for quite some time.
Naturally, she did not forget to prepare a feast of silkworms for Pearl.
The day of the evacuation arrived.
When Su Bai returned to the residential complex with her backpack fully loaded, she happened to encounter Qin Yuke and her group, who were already dressed and ready to depart.
“Su Bai, we’re preparing to evacuate now. Are you coming?” Qin Yuke asked when she saw her.
“Of course.” Su Bai nodded. “But I have another friend. Can she travel with you?”
Qin Yuke agreed readily. “Of course!”
Su Bai gathered her belongings.
Then she got into Qin Yuke’s car.
When they arrived at the place she had arranged with Lin Wanqing, Su Bai saw Lin Wanqing waiting there.
