Chapter 17: Teacher, Surely You Don’t Want the Principal to Know Either?
“...It’s... out?”
Teacher Yao’s originally gaunt and sallow face now looked as pale as if he had been dead for three days, his teeth chattering uncontrollably with a clattering sound.
Only one thought ran through his mind—
It’s over!
From what he knew, the last homeroom teacher who unleashed whatever was kept in the little black room didn’t have a pleasant fate.
After the principal took that teacher to the art building, their screams echoed throughout the campus for three whole days and nights.
When that teacher finally returned, he was barely recognizable, his mental state like that of a walking corpse, unable to take care of himself, utterly broken—let alone manage students.
And a useless homeroom teacher in this school was like a failing student with no prospects for advancement.
In the end, that teacher’s fate was—jumping to his death.
Is this my end too?
“You look like you have dark shadows between your eyebrows and your complexion isn’t good. Do you need me to read your fortune? Just 50 yuan via WeChat transfer,” Wu Wang smiled at the almost delirious Teacher Yao.
The other’s expression grew even uglier.
“It's all your fault!” he snarled viciously.
Then muttered to himself, “No… I didn’t release it... It’s all that kid’s fault!”
If only he could get him to the Academic Affairs Office!
He was willing to shoulder all the blame!
He was still the homeroom teacher of Class One; nothing would change that!
Before he could make a move, a sharp dagger was thrust into the grass between Teacher Yao’s legs, mere inches away.
He looked up directly into Wu Wang’s radiant smile.
“Teacher Yao, this is all thanks to your excellent guidance, teaching us classmates to love and support each other. That’s why I went to rescue Liu Yang, who was trapped. I’m just following your instruction!”
What Baili Dao could think of, Wu Wang naturally had thought of as well.
Since the homeroom teacher’s role was to manage students, the principal’s role was to manage the homeroom teachers.
Old Deng’s terror at the idea of the bodies in the little black room being released was probably because he feared the higher-ups would discover his negligence.
Upon hearing this, Teacher Yao’s face instantly darkened as if water could drip from it.
He understood perfectly well.
This kid was threatening him!
If he got taken to the Academic Affairs Office now and let loose, those homeroom teachers who ranked below him would surely seize the opportunity to lash out viciously!
The worst outcome would be the principal preferring to punish a thousand wrongly than to let one slip by—and that would mean trouble for him.
“What exactly do you want?” Teacher Yao ground his teeth.
Swish—
Wu Wang pulled the dagger from the ground, crouched down, and poked the corpse of Liu Yang, who collapsed and never moved after leaving the little black room, muttering as if to himself: “I have two knives.”
“One is called Xiaochuan, used for mischief.”
“The other is Tangniu, untouched by karma.”
The dagger danced nimbly in his hand like a sprite before being slid back into his boot.
He looked at Teacher Yao and smiled, “Tangniu is with me. Do you know where Xiaochuan is?”
“...”
Teacher Yao said nothing.
But the violent heaving of his chest showed how furious he was.
He understood the implication perfectly.
This kid wanted him to become the knife in his hand that only did bad things!
Since the founding of Gaoshan High School, no student had ever dared threaten a homeroom teacher!
This was absolutely outrageous!
But after a few seconds of impotent rage,
He gave in.
After struggling for so many years to earn his position, he was not going to let someone else take it so easily.
This kid in front of him was clearly a madman unafraid of death, and he was not about to die alongside a lunatic.
“Speak. What do you want me to do?” Teacher Yao’s tone softened a bit, though he added, “But first, you must promise I won’t have to do anything against school rules.”
In Teacher Yao’s eyes, what students wanted boiled down to two things:
Either privileges within the rules, or foolish thirst for knowledge.
But Wu Wang opened with a weighty question: “First, tell me—where is the art building?”
Wu Wang had already noticed this while in the teaching building.
There was no sign pointing to the art building.
Clearly, the ghost school didn’t want students to know about or go there.
“!”
At these words, Old Deng jumped up, covering Wu Wang’s mouth.
His eyes were full of terror.
“You’re crazy! Mentioning that building inside the school grounds will let him hear!”
Then, like a thief caught in the act, Teacher Yao glanced around cautiously.
After a moment, he sighed in relief.
“Luckily, he doesn’t usually watch the area around the little black room, you almost got yourself killed!”
Wu Wang squinted, pondering Teacher Yao’s reaction.
The “he” in Old Deng’s words must be the principal.
A single person surveilling the entire school.
The other’s abilities within this ghost school seemed unfathomably powerful.
Damn this spirit disaster game!
Escape from such a monster? And also bring more students out?
Oh, and four other players were coming to cause trouble.
Thanks a lot!
“Here’s the deal: write down whatever you want to know on paper, then bring it to my office. I’ll give you the answers. Don’t say it out loud, got it?” Teacher Yao said, frustrated but earnest.
Wu Wang nodded. “Okay, then first write me a leave slip for missing class. How about five days?”
He didn’t want to waste time on boring classes.
After all, he only had five days.
“Can’t do that,” Teacher Yao replied immediately.
“Hmm? I’m telling you, I’m going to the art—ugh!”
Wu Wang swore under his breath.
Before he finished, Teacher Yao covered his mouth again.
Old Deng was so scared he was about to faint.
“Don’t shout! Don’t shout! For me to approve a leave slip, it has to be issued by a ‘doctor’ confirming you can’t attend class normally. Otherwise, it’s against school rules. Listen to me! You’re really crazy!”
Wu Wang spread his fingers, twisted his neck, and retorted, “So the school doctor is like you? What about the security guards and janitors? Can one person handle it all?”
Hearing his comparison of himself to the school doctor and security, Teacher Yao immediately sneered.
Coldly he said, “Only we and he are normal people in this school. The school doctor and security guards are just trash who follow orders and do things by the book.”
Then, as if remembering something, he warned Wu Wang, “Though the school doctor is trash, I advise you not to try to fake being sick. That’s also against school rules.”
“If you get caught, don’t drag me down with you!”
Old Deng’s explanation gave Wu Wang a clearer picture of this ghost school’s makeup.
Ironically, he even considered himself and the principal “normal.”
Does he really think his actions are for the sake of educating students?
How laughable.
“Alright, understood. I’ll take care of the corpse. I also have a way to get a doctor’s note. You just wait in your office for me to come get you for the official approval.”
With that, Wu Wang hoisted Liu Yang’s corpse and started to leave.
If the school doctor was really as useless as Teacher Yao said,
Then Wu Wang was sure he could get a note confirming he couldn’t attend class.
Halfway out, he suddenly remembered something.
Turning to the panting Old Deng still standing there, he said:
“By the way, help me organize the school rules. As a model student, I think I should properly follow the Code of Conduct for Primary and Secondary Students.”
Teacher Yao: “?”
You? A model student?
What model student carries a knife and handles corpses?
