Chapter Five: The True and False Heiress, Part 5
News that the heir of the Mu family had been beaten nearly to death and hospitalized quickly spread far and wide. Even at the Bai family dinner table, Mrs. Bai couldn’t help but bring it up.
“This is strange. Knowing Mu Yuanzhou’s temper, he definitely wouldn’t let those who hurt him off easily, yet no one knows who did it so far.”
The second daughter frowned in confusion, her gaze shifting toward Huai Ying. A vague suspicion stirred in her heart.
“I did it.”
Huai Ying popped a piece of milk tofu into her mouth, her tone unusually light.
For a moment, the Bai family fell into a long, heavy silence.
“You did?” Bai Jinwei was the first to react, her emotions complex.
Huai Ying nodded, glanced at the milk tofu, and then explained the circumstances to Bai Jinwei.
“That’s despicable,” Father Bai snorted coldly.
He had two daughters. Thinking it over, if it had been his daughter who was treated so cruelly, he might have even felt murderous rage.
With that thought, he looked at Huai Ying with full support.
“You’re absolutely right to do this. If the Mu family comes looking for trouble, don’t be afraid; Mom and Dad will protect you.”
“The Mu family doesn’t raise their descendants well; they deserve to be beaten.”
Mrs. Bai, too, was filled with indignation.
In contrast, Bai Jinwei’s eyes were much more complicated.
“The Mu family wouldn’t fear the Bai family, yet they haven’t come to demand an explanation. There must be something strange happening.”
Mu Jinnian’s face flashed through her mind.
Could this be connected to that illegitimate son?
“That’s true,” Father Bai nodded in agreement.
“Mu Yuanzhou definitely won’t let this go easily. Be careful recently; I’ll assign bodyguards to protect you all.”
“And that girl too—I’ll have someone protect her as well.”
Huai Ying frowned quietly, silently asking herself, “Didn’t you say they’d blame me for offending the Mu family?”
Xiao Hong looked equally puzzled.
This didn’t match any novel she had read.
“Looks like the Bai family isn’t some bizarre clan; our mission should be completed quite easily.”
She muttered softly, suddenly struck by an idea.
“Let me check their affection levels to see exactly what attitude they have toward you.”
Before long, Xiao Hong’s scream echoed through the Bai family mansion.
But only Huai Ying could hear it. She frowned in displeasure, restraining herself from snapping.
“Is the food not good?” Mrs. Bai quickly asked.
Huai Ying shook her head. “It’s delicious.”
“Boss, boss, boss...” Xiao Hong called excitedly for a long time, her face flushed.
“Do you know? Your parents, Bai Jinwei, and Xue Wei’s affection levels toward you have soared. At this rate, we’ll finish the mission soon.”
Previously, she had hesitated to check the affection levels for fear of disappointment.
She hadn’t expected Huai Ying to be so capable.
She eagerly imagined the future.
“With the current trend, I’ll definitely get promoted after this mission. Boss, you really are incredible.”
“But it’s strange—I can’t find Mu Jinnian’s affection level.”
“Could it be a system bug?”
Xiao Hong muttered softly, while Huai Ying continued eating her milk tofu, her mood ambiguous.
The others at the table exchanged glances, wanting to say something yet afraid to upset her.
The first thing Huai Ying did upon returning to her room was to shop online.
But after searching for a long time, she couldn’t find what she wanted, her expression growing increasingly awkward.
“Boss, what exactly do you want to buy? Should I help you?” Xiao Hong asked cheerfully.
Huai Ying rattled off several materials from her mouth.
A look of confusion flashed in Xiao Hong’s eyes.
What on earth were those?
She had never even heard of them.
She hurried to look them up and then...
Why were these materials for making bacterial bombs?
Poor Xiao Hong, a liberal arts student, was momentarily stunned.
She shyly leaned over.
“Boss, these items are strictly controlled domestically. You won’t be able to buy them.”
“This world’s technology is too backward. Even if you’re a genius scientist from the apocalypse, you wouldn’t be able to make what you want.”
“Besides, the Heavenly Judgment Bureau wouldn’t let you get away with this.”
“Let’s just focus on completing the mission…”
“No.” Xiao Hong suddenly stopped speaking.
Her mind raced quickly, and a smile appeared on her face.
“It’s not like we have to finish the mission anyway. The main thing is for you to be happy.”
“If you want to enjoy delicious food, then we’ll enjoy delicious food.”
“If you like handsome men, then we’ll find handsome men.”
“Anyway, we’ve got plenty of money, right?”
Judging by the rapid increase in affection levels, they didn’t even need Huai Ying to do anything.
They could complete the mission smoothly.
As long as Huai Ying relaxed and stopped trying to destroy the world.
Everything would be easy.
The more Xiao Hong thought about it, the smarter she felt, and she couldn’t help but laugh.
She earned a look from Huai Ying that seemed to say she was an idiot.
Embarrassed, Xiao Hong cleared her throat.
“Boss, come on, I’ll order takeaway for you. Pick whatever you want.”
“Mission or not, it’s not important.”
The takeaway menu caught Huai Ying’s attention.

She ordered dozens of takeout dishes before finally stopping.
Yet her mind never once strayed from the bacterial bomb materials.
The system had collected all the delicacies of this world and played them on a loop before Huai Ying.
Seeing that Huai Ying was focusing on satisfying her appetite as she wished, it finally relaxed.
Until...
“Do you know where to buy these materials?”
Mu Jinnian came to Huai Ying, casually handing over the items in his hand.
Just as he sat down, he heard her question, and his body stiffened.
Feigning casualness, he asked, “What do you need these things for?”
“They’re useful.”
“Are they important to you?”
“Very important.”
Goosebumps rose all over Xiao Hong.
So, Huai Ying’s recent good behavior was because she was bottling up something big.
She looked at Mu Jinnian with hopeful eyes.
Muttering repeatedly, “You better say you don’t know, or your life won’t be safe.”
“Poor thing, just say you don’t know.”
But the outcome disappointed her.
“I know where to buy them,” Mu Jinnian nodded.
After a moment’s hesitation, he added, “But that place is complicated. I’ll have to take you there.”
“Okay.” Huai Ying eagerly agreed; her appetite had improved considerably.
Mu Jinnian lowered his head, fiddling with his chopsticks.
These were all materials for making bacterial bombs!
Recalling Huai Ying’s earlier words, a possibility arose in his mind.
Could she be antisocial? Seeking revenge on society?
Only that could explain it.
“Boss, you really need to think carefully. These materials are all banned. You might get caught before you even make anything.”
“Do you want to spend half your life in a police station? Or just eat peanuts?”
“If the mission fails, we both face punishment.”
“I know you’re not afraid, but isn’t it more enjoyable to just eat and drink and relax every day? Why bring trouble upon yourself?”
“Boss…”
Huai Ying could no longer tolerate it; with a sharp slap, her chopsticks hit the table heavily.
She looked up toward the empty air.
With a cold sneer, she said, “If you say another word, I’ll slit my throat and kill myself.”
That would be so much simpler than destroying the world!
