Chapter 5: Go Plant the Potatoes

Watching so many people shouting "Long live," Zhang Shan truly felt his heart surge with emotion.
The battle in the city continued for over an hour before finally ceasing. Some of the ghost soldiers, knowing they had committed grave sins and would not be spared, fought stubbornly to the end.
Originally, Zhang Shan thought the Lacia soldiers would suffer in close combat, but he was proven wrong.
He casually flipped through the infantry manual held by a Lacia guard and saw it stated—suppress the enemy’s artillery with your own cannons, then launch a human wave assault to overwhelm the enemy.
At first glance, it seemed like a terrible tactic.
But through the system, he surprisingly found some logic in it.
Facing the ghostly Yamato soldiers, many Lacia infantrymen’s bodies suddenly swelled like they had eaten spinach, resembling a powerful sailor, but their bodies were covered with bear-like fur.
When a fierce ghost soldier’s bayonet was parried, it was the Lacia soldiers’ time to unleash a brutal beating.
“Ah!”
A man weighing over a hundred pounds was lifted entirely off the ground, swung like a bag of trash, and slammed hard against the wall. The force was so immense that the mudbrick wall instantly crumbled.
The bear-like Lacia soldier pounced, sitting down heavily on the ghost soldier and pounding him into minced meat with fists as large as a clay pot.
“This…” Zhang Shan found himself barely able to contain his astonishment.
Indeed, in this other world, any large and expansive nation was not to be underestimated.
So, Yamato were ghosts, and Lacia were beastmen!
Could it be that I have some kind of transformation ability as well?
Pulling his gaze away from the system, Zhang Shan saw Natalie approaching.
“Your Highness, we have basically recaptured Lanwood City. However, there is bad news—your father, King Berlia, and your eldest brother, Prince Alexander, were recently attacked by bombs. Their current status is unknown.”
“Ah?!” Zhang Shan was uncertain whether to feel shock or relief.
As an impostor, his memories were fragmented; he truly feared being exposed upon meeting the original owner’s family. The assassination of his greatest supporter was both a potential blessing and a curse.
Natalie quietly waited for her lord to process the news.
His stunned expression, his shock, his confusion—every subtle emotion was etched clearly in her eyes.
When Zhang Shan’s eyes cleared again, she added, “The order from the Berlia General Staff is for all regional garrison legions to hold their ground and await further orders.”
“Hold their ground?”
“Yes, hold their ground!”

“What about the other allied forces?”
“To be honest, it doesn’t look good.” Natalie led Zhang Shan to the train station’s dispatch room. Because of the telephone, this thirty-square-meter room had become Lanwood’s temporary command center, with the remaining staff bustling back and forth.
“Amur has reported an attack!”
“Red Tower Province is requesting reinforcements.”
“I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
