“Watch me,” Lu Yang said.

Leaping out from the glitch spot, Lu Yang slowly approached the orc warrior. When he was thirty yards away, he began chanting a spell.

“Flame Blast!”

A massive burst of fire shot from Lu Yang’s hand and struck the orc warrior squarely in the head.

“Roar!”

The orc warrior bellowed in pain, raised its axe, and shouted at Lu Yang, who had turned and begun to run, “Damn human! I’ll kill you!”

System Notification: The Orc Warrior has used Charge against you.

Lu Yang heard the wind howl behind him. The orc warrior’s enormous body left a trail of afterimages as it charged across the ground, reaching Lu Yang in the blink of an eye. Just as it was about to collide with him, a flash of white light burst from Lu Yang’s body. He cast Blink at the perfect moment and dodged the charge.

This was the standard technique mages used in his previous life to counter warriors. Though Blink seemed simple, using it effectively was anything but. If activated too early or too late, it would fail.

If Blink was used too early, the system would extend the charge’s effective distance according to the game’s rules. In other words, even if the maximum range of Charge was thirty yards, if a player used Blink after the target had begun charging, the target could still reach the player. Had Lu Yang blinked too early, the orc warrior would effectively have been able to charge sixty yards.

If the player blinked too late, they could technically escape after being stunned, but the stun imposed 0.1 seconds of absolute immobilization during which skills could not be used. Moreover, the orc warrior raised its axe while charging. The system calculated the physical damage at the exact instant the charge connected, so Lu Yang would still have been killed instantly.

Thus, dodging Charge with Blink looked easy, but in reality it required precise calculations, swift reactions, and the ability to predict the game’s mechanics.

For a beginner, such a maneuver was nearly impossible. For Lu Yang, however, it was something he had repeated countless times every day in his previous life. He performed it with effortless ease.

After blinking, Lu Yang was only twenty yards from the large rock to his left. Realizing that its charge had failed, the orc warrior raised its axe and charged at him in even greater fury.

In the world of Second World, players had an initial movement speed of 325 points. Some elite monsters in the wilderness moved fifty percent faster than players, at 487 points. The orc warrior was one of them. Although Lu Yang had blinked thirty yards away, the remaining twenty yards were quickly covered by the pursuing monster.

“Boss, watch out!” Xiao Liang shouted from atop the large rock.

Lu Yang was only two steps from the rock when the orc warrior caught up with him. It had first been attacked, then humiliated when its charge was dodged. Now it raised its axe in fury.

If that axe came down, Lu Yang would certainly die. But at that instant, he suddenly turned and cast the instant spell Flame Shock at the orc warrior.

“Boom!”

A ball of fire exploded over the orc’s head, stunning it in place.

“Boss, give me your hand!” Xiao Liang shouted, reaching out.

After casting Flame Shock, Lu Yang did not even look to see whether it had worked. He leaped forward and grabbed Xiao Liang’s arm. Xiao Liang pulled with all his strength, hauling Lu Yang onto the top of the rock.

Xiao Liang had just begun to catch his breath when Lu Yang seized him and leaped down into a narrow crevice in the rock. The two of them tumbled awkwardly into the gap at the corner of the wall. Before Xiao Liang could ask why, a tremendous metallic clang rang out above them.

“Clang!”

Xiao Liang looked up and saw that the orc’s axe had sunk deep into the rock.

“Boss, how did it wake up so quickly?” Xiao Liang asked in astonishment. He had seen Lu Yang use Flame Shock before; it was supposed to stun a target for two seconds.

“It’s an elite monster,” Lu Yang explained. “That’s how the system works. Control effects last half as long on elite monsters, while lord monsters are immune to control.”

Xiao Liang nodded in understanding, then asked, “Boss, won’t this giant thing smash the rock apart?”

The orc warrior’s axe was far too large to poke into the narrow crevice like the bone clubs wielded by ordinary orcs. Unable to reach Lu Yang, it angrily hacked at the rock with its axe.

Lu Yang recalled a video from his previous life in which a thief had killed a boss and said, “Don’t worry. This thing can never break the rock. We can attack it from here without fear and kill the brute at our leisure.”

“That’s great!” Xiao Liang cried excitedly. He immediately took out the Snake Venom Orb and released its poison, dyeing the orc warrior a vivid green.

Lu Yang raised his staff. Four walls of fire appeared beneath the orc warrior’s feet and along both sides of its path. Then Lu Yang began chanting Flame Blast.

“Boom!”

“Boom!”

“Boom!”

…

As a level-fifteen elite monster, the orc warrior possessed twenty thousand health, high defense, heavy damage, and an extremely rapid recovery rate. Under normal circumstances, killing one required two parties of players at level fifteen or above. But now, with Lu Yang and Xiao Liang standing at the glitch spot, they could kill the orc warrior with ease. The monster could do nothing but helplessly circle the large rock, unable to inflict the slightest damage on them.

After an hour and a half of repeated Flame Blasts and furious roars, the orc warrior finally collapsed to the ground in unwilling defeat.

System Notification: You have gained 3,142 experience points.

“Boss, we really killed the orc warrior!” Xiao Liang shouted excitedly. This was the first boss he had killed since entering the game. Although he could not see the orc warrior die, he had seen his experience increase.

“Don’t rush out to collect the loot,” Lu Yang said calmly. “There are orcs everywhere outside.”

After more than an hour, four waves of orcs had respawned outside. The cavern hall had returned to the same state it had been in when Lu Yang first arrived, with several hundred orcs wandering through it.

Xiao Liang lay atop the rock and peered at the orc warrior’s corpse, which was concealed behind the surrounding orcs. “What a pain. I really want to see what equipment it dropped.”

Lu Yang could not help laughing, though he understood Xiao Liang’s feelings. Sixteen-year-old boys were naturally curious. When Lu Yang had killed his first boss back then, he had been just as eager to see what equipment it had dropped.

After eating two portions of fragrant electric-eel meat to restore his mana to full, Lu Yang stood up and used Flame Blast to draw the nearby orcs toward them. The two of them joined forces, using walls of fire and snake venom to kill the monsters. Soon, every creature in the vicinity had been cleared away.

Only then did Lu Yang lead Xiao Liang out of the glitch spot. One glance at the items dropped beside the orc warrior made Lu Yang’s eyes widen.

“It’s a skill book! Go see what it is!”
