Classroom 6, Grade 3.

Teacher Wang stood at the podium, lecturing in a gentle yet powerful voice. The explanations were profound but easy to understand, and every point of knowledge was dissected with crystal clarity. Even the weakest students could grasp it with ease.

Below the podium, the students listened with rapt attention, their eyes bulging from their sockets and gleaming with a hunger for knowledge.

Some students had even lost their arms and legs. Not wishing to delay their note-taking, they simply picked up the exposed bone spikes protruding from their flesh, dipped them into the ink-like pulp inside their skulls, and began copying onto the paper.

Seeing this, Teacher Wang smiled in satisfaction and continued the lesson with even greater passion.

Sunlight streamed through the windows and spilled across the classroom floor, casting warm golden rays that filled the room with an air of peace and serenity.

Bang—!

The tightly closed classroom door was kicked open. The students turned their heads in unison, only to see a young man standing in the doorway, a dark-red metal rod in one hand and a wild-haired girl in the other.

Teacher Wang immediately shouted, “A student’s duty is to study! You kicked the door open—are you trying to disrupt the students’ education?”

Bai Ming grinned. “That’s exactly what I’m doing. What are you going to do, bite me?”

Teacher Wang flew into a rage, its body trembling like a sieve. “How dare you violate the Basic Rules for Students of Evergreen High School! This is outrageous! Utterly outrageous!”

Bai Ming burst out laughing. He strode onto the podium, kicked Teacher Wang to the floor, then raised the metal rod and brought it down.

“I’m being outrageous. So what? It takes two to make a quarrel. Without a teacher like you, how would those students have turned out this way?”

At first, Bai Ming had thought this was nothing more than a simple bullying incident.

The students had problems, and the teacher naturally had problems too.

There was no mistake in beating them all.

After all, it takes two to make a quarrel.

But after reading the notes, Bai Ming realized that he had still underestimated the depths to which human beings could sink.

Everything Bai Xiaozhi had suffered was the result of Teacher Wang’s deliberate manipulation and indulgence.

“What do you know? I only want to bring my son back to life!”

The head lying on the floor suddenly shot forward. Its neck twisted grotesquely, stretching like a rubber band. Its jaw gaped open at an inhuman angle, baring a row of ghastly white teeth as it lunged viciously for Bai Ming’s throat.

At the same time, its four limbs twisted and warped like melting wax figures.

Its right arm lashed out like a whip, while its left arm stretched toward Bai Ming’s right leg.

Its legs bent backward against all reason. The right kicked toward Bai Ming’s left leg, while the left viciously stomped at his lower body.

“So you abused your daughter just because you wanted to revive your son!”

With the trait [Spineless Coward] at his disposal, Bai Ming was completely unafraid of Teacher Wang’s attacks.

The instant Teacher Wang lunged to bite him, a section of ceiling suddenly collapsed and struck its head aside. Its flung-out right arm was caught on the podium, which inexplicably toppled over, while the vicious kick from its left leg snagged a toe in a crack in the floor, sending it stumbling helplessly forward.

Every deadly strike was either dodged by Bai Ming or thwarted by some sudden accident.

Riiip—!

Bai Ming thrust the metal rod into Teacher Wang’s throat, the tip piercing through its thin neck.

“No. She isn’t your daughter.”

Teacher Wang fell to the ground. Though it was a ghostly entity with the power of immortality, after suffering such severe injuries, it would still need time before it could revive.

Throughout the entire process, the students in the classroom remained silent as statues. They could not violate the rules.

“Let’s go. Next one.”

Bai Ming walked out of the classroom. When he saw Bai Xiaozhi still standing motionless inside, he urged her onward.

Bai Xiaozhi’s blood-red single eye fixed on him. “If I’m not its daughter, then what am I?”

Bai Ming was speechless. Ghostly resentments were always prone to obsessing over trivial matters.

“I already told you this morning. Today, you’re a princess.”

Only then did Bai Xiaozhi hop over to him.

Bai Ming thought to himself that keeping the resentful spirit happy was probably one part of resolving her resentment.

For the rest of the time, Bai Ming kicked open classrooms one after another, or walked into offices, sending every teacher he encountered to the graveyard and making them wait for their resurrection cooldowns.

That was right. They did not swarm him or gather together. They only fought Bai Ming one-on-one.

Perhaps they would attack in a group if he violated the rules, but Bai Ming had not broken a single rule. Thanks to [Spineless Coward], even his clothes remained spotless and neatly arranged.

The more than twenty teachers who had gathered beneath the teaching building earlier had probably only been putting on a show.

The logic was simple enough. This was merely an E-rank mission. If it were truly that difficult, how could the other players possibly complete it?

It might have looked as though Bai Ming had dealt with Teacher Wang effortlessly, but that was only because every one of Teacher Wang’s attacks had been rendered ineffective.

For another player fighting alone, dodging even Teacher Wang’s first wave of attacks would have been extremely difficult.

Two fists could not defeat four hands—especially when Teacher Wang had five. There was simply no way to guard against them all.

As for defense?

Ghostly entities generally had weak defenses. Players could break through them with ease, which made it possible to kill a ghost, wait for it to revive, and thereby restrict its movements.

Just as Bai Ming had done when he killed Teacher Wang.

In truth, when Bai Ming attacked Teacher Wang, he had used [No Way] to become immune to the rules.

If other players attacked Teacher Wang, they would probably be ordered around by the teacher, causing them to violate the rules and be swarmed by the students or several teachers.

Still, it was unlikely that all twenty-plus teachers would launch a coordinated assault. That would be an extreme situation.

One must not forget that ghostly entities could also lure players into violating the rules. They possessed intelligence, and naturally knew how to frighten people deliberately.

If someone was scared senseless and dared not act, they had already fallen into the ghost’s trap.

Of course, all of this was merely Bai Ming’s speculation.

To guard against unforeseen complications, the first person Bai Ming dealt with had been the true culprit, Teacher Wang. That would improve his completion rating.

Like the players known as [Wind and Freedom], Bai Ming had already acquired the ability to escape the school and complete the mission. Everything he did afterward was purely for the sake of farming points.

“Damn it. It seems the Twilight Game is stingy as hell. It won’t even let me farm points.”

Bai Ming looked at the thing standing before him. Its limbs were twisted at grotesque angles, and its long neck stretched forward. It could still, more or less, be called Teacher Wang.

He sighed helplessly.

“My daughter is the one I gave birth to! She will always be my daughter! Bai Xiaozhi, get your ass over here!”

Teacher Wang’s roar issued from a mouth torn all the way back to its ears.

Bai Xiaozhi trembled from head to toe and instinctively took a step forward, but a warm hand closed around hers.

“Don’t be afraid. The knight is protecting the princess.”

Bai Ming held Bai Xiaozhi’s icy hand, yet he still felt a headache coming on.

It seemed he really could not farm any more points. Once Teacher Wang revived, the other teachers would revive as well. Bai Ming did not believe that the ghosts’ hostility would simply reset after resurrection.

So did that mean the mission was complete?

That made sense. The normal way to clear the mission was to find Teacher Wang and several of the bullies, beat them up in front of Bai Xiaozhi, and prevent her from obstructing the players’ escape.

It was nothing difficult. After all, this was only an E-rank mission, and a team could complete it through cooperation.

Bai Ming had reached this point only by relying on the ability [No Way].

He had even fought all six hundred students at once. He had long since surpassed the conditions for completing the mission.

But—

What a joke!

There were still eight teachers he had not sent off to revive!

How could that count as completing the mission?

A student’s duty was to study!

Cheating through shortcuts was unacceptable!

“Hm?”

Feeling a rougher sensation in his hand, Bai Ming lowered his head in surprise and met Bai Xiaozhi’s blood-red single eye.

For the first time, the girl’s bony fingers actively closed around his palm. Her grip was astonishingly strong.

“That’s enough. Leave. This time, I won’t stop you.”

Bai Ming grinned, his smile brilliant.

“What are you talking about? When has a knight ever abandoned a princess and fled for his life?”

Before the words had even left his mouth, he smoothly freed his hand from her withered grasp, raised the metal rod, and charged toward Teacher Wang.
