Chapter 110: Lin Xiong’s Unreasonable Badgering
Lin Sangqian paused for a moment before remembering that Lin Xiong was Lin Shuimei’s younger brother.
Come to think of it, she had completely overlooked that there was still such a person.
With Lin Shengrong and Lai Ruyu already locked up, could a child like Lin Xiong, with no money on him, still remain at school?
And Lin Shuimei—where had she gone?
“What was Lin Xiong doing?” Lin Beitao asked, glancing at the items in the fried chicken shop.
“He was buying milk tea.”
“He’s probably just a kid with a sweet tooth,” Lin Yanbei said with a laugh. “That’s normal.”
Lin Sangqian nodded, though she quietly took note of it in her heart.
After all, Lin Xiong was Lin Shuimei’s brother.
The two siblings were the same kind of sly, rotten sort.
Who knew what mischief they might be plotting.
After buying the milk tea, Lin Xiong carefully carried it over to Lin Shuimei, who had been hiding in the corner all this time.
“Sis, I bought the milk tea,” Lin Xiong said, swallowing hard. “Do you want some?”
The alluring sweetness of the drink was already making him ache with longing, and the pearls inside looked delicious too.
Lin Shuimei gave him a disdainful look. “You drink it.”
“Thank you, Sis!” Lin Xiong was overjoyed, and was just about to take a sip when Lin Shuimei said, “Go drink it at the entrance of Macken Chicken.”
Lin Xiong froze, a little confused, but still prepared to follow her instructions.
“Wait. After you finish it, then you…”
She whispered something into his ear. Lin Xiong asked uneasily, “Why do we have to do that?”
“If I tell you to do it, then do it. What, do you not want to stay at school anymore? Then where will you eat, and where will you sleep?” Lin Shuimei asked coldly.
At the same time, she felt a wild thrill of satisfaction in her heart.
Back when Lin Xiong had been favored by their parents, he had been the little tyrant of the household. He had never shown her, his elder sister, the slightest respect, and had bullied her all the time.
But now, Lin Xiong’s fate was in her hands.
Hah. This feeling really was delightful.
Lin Shuimei suddenly felt rather glad that her parents had been thrown into prison.
“I-I want to stay at school,” Lin Xiong said timidly. “Don’t let the teacher drive me away. I’ll do what you say.”
He had never been forced to endure such indignity before. In front of Lin Shuimei, he had always held his head high.
But now, he had no choice but to obey her.
Lin Xiong returned to the entrance of Macken Chicken. There were people coming and going, and no one paid him any attention.
In full view of the others, he gulped down all the milk tea, even licking his lips afterward as though he still had not had enough.
Just as he was about to go buy another cup, he remembered Lin Shuimei’s instructions. Gritting his teeth, he suddenly clutched his stomach and rolled on the ground, crying out, “Owww, my stomach hurts! My stomach hurts so much!”
“Child, what’s wrong?” a woman asked.
“My stomach hurts!” Lin Xiong wailed. “After I drank Macken Chicken’s milk tea, my stomach suddenly started hurting!”
“What?” The people who had just bought milk tea, as well as those still in line, were all shocked. “You got stomach pain after drinking the milk tea? Could it be dirty?”
“Yes, this milk tea must be dirty!” Lin Xiong seized the opportunity to say. “Don’t drink it, all of you! My stomach hurts so badly now. You must never come back to Macken Chicken to buy things again!”
“That doesn’t seem right,” someone objected. “I just drank some too, and nothing happened.”
“Exactly. I even drank two cups, and now I just need to use the privy.”
“I drank it too, and I’m fine.”
“Kid, didn’t you just eat something else that upset your stomach? I’ve eaten Macken Chicken’s drumsticks and wings many times, and I’ve never had stomach trouble.”
Lin Xiong, embarrassed and angry, snapped, “There’s nothing wrong with the fried chicken, but that doesn’t mean the milk tea is fine too! This milk tea is definitely unclean. Anyway, my stomach really hurts!”
He kept rolling about and crying out on the ground, drawing more and more attention.
The crowd began to murmur among themselves. Some believed in Macken Chicken, while others thought perhaps the place really was not very clean.
At that moment, Lin Sangqian and her three brothers came out of the shop.
Seeing Lin Xiong causing a scene on the ground, a cold light flashed in Lin Sangqian’s eyes.
Just as she thought: how could Lin Shuimei’s brother be anything but abnormal?
“Lin Xiong!” Lin Wenyan barked. “What are you doing? What kind of scene are you making?”
“I drank your milk tea and got a bad stomach, and you still say I’m making a scene? I’m going to demand medical compensation from you!” Lin Xiong said aggressively.
Lin Yanbei sneered. “You look full of energy. You don’t seem sick at all.”
Lin Xiong froze, then immediately resumed clutching his stomach and wailing, “Ow, my stomach, it’s killing me! They’re truly heartless people… selling dirty milk tea like this, trying to harm the people of our town!”
“Enough, stop howling!” Lin Sangqian rebuked him coldly.
To everyone’s surprise, Lin Xiong was frightened by her and gaped, unable to say a word.
“Today, countless people came to buy milk tea. Everyone else was fine, but somehow only you had a problem?” Lin Sangqian said with a cold smile. “Tell me, what proof do you have that your stomach was ruined by drinking our milk tea?”
“I…” Cold sweat broke out on Lin Xiong’s forehead. “I started hurting right after I drank your milk tea! I didn’t eat anything else today!”
“I think you’re clearly here to cause trouble!” Lin Beitao said bluntly. “Trying to extort us? Dream on!”
“Everyone,” Lin Sangqian said, smiling as she looked at the crowd, “don’t you think his story is full of holes?”
“It really is!”
“I think this child has bad intentions. Is he trying to scam money?”
“You—you’re bullying a child!” Seeing that he could not outtalk them, Lin Xiong began to throw a tantrum. “This is outrageous! I’m going to report you to the authorities! Your milk tea made me sick, and now you’re still bullying me!”
Lin Sangqian strode over, seized his wrist without a word, and took his pulse.
“What are you doing!”
“Your pulse shows nothing wrong. What more is there to say?” Lin Sangqian released him in disgust.
By then, no one around them believed Lin Xiong anymore.
Still, he continued to make a scene.
“Just because you say there’s nothing wrong doesn’t mean there isn’t. Are you a doctor?” Lin Xiong shouted in defiance.
“I am a physician. Why don’t I take his pulse as well?”
A stern voice rang out. Everyone turned and saw Doctor Ge walking over.
Someone recognized him. “Isn’t that Doctor Ge? His medical skill is quite good.”
“Yes, my mother’s illness was cured by him last time.”
Doctor Ge approached, first smiling at Lin Sangqian, then saying, “Everyone, this Miss Lin here may be young, but her medical skill is extraordinary—perhaps even above my own.”
The crowd was astonished and turned to look at Lin Sangqian in surprise.
They had already thought it impressive that Lin Sangqian, so young, could open a shop and make it so popular. They never expected that she also knew medicine—and that even Doctor Ge might not compare to her.
“However, since this young fellow is unconvinced, let me take his pulse once more. I am a proper physician, and many people can testify to that.”
