“Oh.” Lin Beitao did not suspect anything. “I thought you were feeling unwell.”

“No.” Yang Shi forced a smile, his gaze settling on Lin Wenyan, who was chatting with Lu Chengren.

How he envied him.

Just then, someone knocked on the door. Assuming another guest had arrived, Lin Beitao instinctively went over to open it.

The moment he did, the person outside kicked him viciously.

Caught completely off guard, Lin Beitao was sent sprawling to the ground.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Yang Shi saw what had happened and hurried over, shouting angrily as he helped Lin Beitao to his feet.

Lin Wenyan saw it as well. Furious, he strode over.

The first person to enter was Young Master Li, who had caused trouble at McBite Chicken before.

“What is it? Are you planning to attack me?” Young Master Li was swaggering arrogantly now, staring at Lin Wenyan without the slightest fear. “Don’t think that just because you’re a constable, you’re so impressive. Take a good look at who came here with me today!”

As soon as he finished speaking, a richly dressed middle-aged woman, her hair covered in pearls and ornaments, walked in.

Before Young Master Li could finish, Lin Wenyan raised his leg and kicked him several yards away.

She had been accustomed to throwing her weight around in Peaceful Commandery, and the governor had never done much to restrain her.

Naturally, she assumed she could do whatever she pleased here as well.

A cold voice laced with a hint of amusement rang out. Everyone turned to look and saw that Lin Sangqian had arrived.

She had been busy in the kitchen when she heard the commotion outside. It sounded as though something had happened, so she had come out to take a look.

She had not expected to find Young Master Li bringing the governor’s wife to cause trouble.
