Volume One, Chapter 18: It’s Actually Her!
Wu Minyi paid no mind to his thoughts; the moment he received the number, he immediately dialed Yun Mojiu. Yun Mojiu was not at all surprised to receive his call.
“Alright, send me the address. I’ll be there shortly.”
She rose slowly and walked toward the door.
When she arrived at the hospital, Wu Minyi was already waiting by the entrance.
Inside the ward, aside from Feng Guiyu lying unconscious, there was no one else.
Wu Minyi pulled up the photos he had taken in the basement on his phone.
“This is what I found at home. Is it connected to what happened to my mother?”
Yun Mojiu glanced at the images and nodded calmly.
“Yes.”
Wu Minyi’s brows furrowed tightly. “But it’s just a cat and a photo of my mother. Why did it make her so ill? The doctors couldn’t even figure out what disease she was suffering from.”
“This is an ancient dark ritual called the Cat Curse,” Yun Mojiu explained. “To activate the curse, one must find a black cat with emerald eyes born during an inauspicious hour and sacrifice it by strangling it alive. While dying, the cat’s gaze must lock onto a photograph of the intended victim, and on the back of that photo, the victim’s birth details must be written in crow’s blood. Finally, the photograph is nailed onto an inverted pentagram array.
Once the curse takes effect, the victim will die a strange and agonizing death within ten days.
There will be no visible injuries, but her internal organs will feel as though they are being sliced apart, enduring the torment of a cruel execution.
In the end, her organs burst, and she dies in agony.”
Wu Minyi’s pupils trembled violently, a flush of crimson flooding his gaze.
No wonder his mother had complained of pain these past days, yet could never specify where it hurt, constantly coughing up blood.
She had been enduring such excruciating torment!
His fists clenched, shoulders trembling.
“Is... is there any way to save my mother?”
Yun Mojiu moved forward to inspect Feng Guiyu’s condition and nodded.
“Yes, but it requires the blood of a close relative...”
“Use mine!” Wu Minyi rolled up his sleeves instantly, determination etched on his face.
Yun Mojiu smiled softly, “No need for such a heroic expression, only a drop is necessary.”
She took out a yellow talisman paper and used the tip of a small knife to prick Wu Minyi’s fingertip. After squeezing out a little blood, she gripped his finger and began to write, her strokes flowing with vigor across the paper.
Soon, the blood talisman was complete.
She released Wu Minyi’s hand, unaware that his ears had flushed a deep red.
When his hand returned to him, Wu Minyi stared at it, a sense of loss lingering.
The softness and warmth from just now seemed to linger on his skin...
Yun Mojiu hadn’t noticed his distraction. Pressing her palms together, she placed the talisman between them, her lips moving silently as she recited an incantation.
The next moment, her hands overlapped and slowly opened.
The talisman flew above the hospital bed, hovering in midair.
Suddenly, a golden light burst forth, enveloping Feng Guiyu entirely.
Unseen to the naked eye, Feng Guiyu’s internal organs began to heal rapidly.
The pain etched on her brow gradually eased.
As her condition improved, the pentagram array in the Wu family’s basement exploded with a thunderous crash.
At last, Feng Guiyu coughed out a final mouthful of dark blood and slowly opened her eyes.
“Mom!”
Wu Minyi rushed to the bedside, his voice choked with emotion.
“You’re awake! Do you feel any discomfort?”
Feng Guiyu’s bewildered gaze gradually cleared. She reached out to wipe away the tears from Wu Minyi's eyes, smiling gently.
“I’m fine, don’t cry.”
Wu Minyi hurriedly wiped his face, stubbornly protesting, “I wasn’t crying.”
Feng Guiyu chuckled, “Alright, alright, you weren’t crying.”
Her tone was as if coaxing a child.
Only now did she notice another person in the room.
She looked toward Yun Mojiu and spoke softly, “And who might you be...”
“Mom, her name is Yun Mojiu. She’s the one who saved you.”
Xie Jingling had never brought Yun Mojiu to any social gatherings, and Yun Changhong’s business wasn’t large enough to attend such events, so Feng Guiyu had never met her.
Upon learning that Yun Mojiu had saved her, Feng Guiyu hurried to rise and express her gratitude.
Yun Mojiu quickly stopped her, “You’ve only just recovered. Please rest; there’s no need to trouble yourself.”
Looking at Yun Mojiu’s gentle features, Wu Minyi was momentarily lost in thought.
Feng Guiyu caught this scene, a smile tugging at her lips.
She’d never seen her foolish son interested in anyone.
It seemed he’d finally fallen.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you,” she smiled.
Seeing his mother’s recovery, Wu Minyi was filled with gratitude toward Yun Mojiu, but another matter weighed on his mind.
“Yun Mojiu, do you have a way to find out who harmed my mother?”
He had his suspicions, but that person was his father. Even if there was only a one in ten thousand chance, he hoped the culprit wasn’t him.
“What do you mean, ‘harmed me’?” Feng Guiyu was confused. “Wasn’t I just sick?”
Wu Minyi explained the situation concisely.
After hearing everything, Feng Guiyu was stunned.
She hadn’t simply fallen ill—someone had deliberately targeted her!
“Who would want to harm me?” she murmured.
“When the Cat Curse is broken, the one who cast it will suffer backlash. All you need to do is observe who around you develops an itchy rash, constantly scratching, with the affected areas festering and emitting a foul odor. That person is most likely the culprit,” Yun Mojiu explained.
At her words, both Feng Guiyu and Wu Minyi fell silent.
They each had their own suspicions.
After Yun Mojiu left, Wu Minyi summoned the doctor.
After a thorough examination, the attending physician was incredulous.
Someone who had been beyond hope had recovered miraculously!
It was simply unbelievable.
After completing the discharge procedures, mother and son returned home.
“Cousin, why are you back?!”
Just as they stepped out of the car, a young woman holding a little boy’s hand emerged from another vehicle.
Upon seeing Feng Guiyu, a flash of surprise flickered in her eyes.
Sensing her tone was off, she quickly forced a smile. “I was just saying I’d take Lele to the hospital to visit you.”
“You... you’re alright now?”
Wu Lili glanced at Feng Guiyu, noticing her healthy complexion—she didn’t look ill at all. Confusion filled her heart.
This shouldn’t have happened.
Feng Guiyu looked at her with cool indifference. “Yes, I’m fine.”
“Oh... that’s good, that’s good...” Wu Lili forced a strained smile.
“Let me help you inside.”
As she stepped forward to assist, she felt an itch at her neck.
Unable to resist, she scratched at it.
Wu Minyi’s eyes flashed, shock giving way to a surge of anger.
It was her!
