Chapter Sixty-Four: [Salivary Toxin]

With a thunderous roar, the Tyrannosaurus had already hurled the table like a missile, sending it crashing through a gaping hole in the wall and out into the courtyard beyond. By now, the Xu family’s bodyguards had been scattered to the winds—most were left battered and bleeding from the initial onslaught, and some had suffered broken bones the moment the monster burst in. The wild gunfire just moments ago had not so much as scratched the beast; instead, it retaliated with such ferocity that a few guards had nearly lost their lives on the spot.

The remaining bodyguards could only shout from a safe distance; some frantically dialed for help, others tried desperately to summon reinforcements.

Inside the dining room, the Tyrannosaurus failed to find Young Master Xu, and with a dismissive glance at Chen Xiao, who was embedded in the wall, the beast charged outside, its massive frame smashing straight through the wall and into the yard. Immediately, the sounds of chaos—squawking chickens, barking dogs—filled the air.

Chen Xiao, still wedged in the wall, suddenly heard Bai Cai’s voice in his ear. His heart leapt in astonishment. As the monster stormed away, he felt a soft, warm hand grasp his own, tugging with determination, trying to pull him from the cavity in the wall. Yet, when he looked around, he could see no one.

Could it be… Bai Cai could turn invisible?

Indeed, he soon heard Bai Cai’s anxious whisper, “Now’s not the time to talk. Wait a moment, I’ll find something to pry you out.” Then, another urgent hiss: “Why are you just standing there? Hurry and find a tool!”

Xu Ershao’s voice drifted through the air, “Ah? Oh! Yes, yes!”—his presence invisible as well. Was even Young Master Xu hidden from sight?

Next, Chen Xiao witnessed a bizarre scene—a length of steel rebar, twisted by the Tyrannosaurus like a pretzel, floated up from the ground and moved toward him as if carried by a ghostly hand.

Suddenly, with a whoosh, Bai Cai materialized before him, both hands clutching the steel, her brow glistening with sweat as she tried to wedge it between his body and the wall. Xu Ershao, too, finally reappeared, his face a mask of confusion and shock as he stood by Bai Cai’s side.

“Are you daft? Hurry up and help!” Bai Cai grunted, struggling with the bar. The monster’s strength was truly terrifying—Chen Xiao’s body was jammed tight in the stonework, and Bai Cai, slight as she was, could not budge him.

Xu Ershao snapped out of his stupor, let out a muffled cry, and grabbed the crowbar. After much effort, he managed to free Chen Xiao from the wall’s grasp.

At this point, Chen Xiao’s whole body ached, his bones throbbing in a dozen places, and he couldn’t muster an ounce of strength. Frustration welled in his heart—despite his newfound abilities, every opponent he’d faced so far had toyed with him like a child.

And then there was Bai Cai…

“I can turn invisible,” Bai Cai said quietly, her expression tinged with melancholy, her voice low and forlorn. “I’ve always been able to.”

“This isn’t a place to linger,” she suddenly said with renewed urgency. “Who knows if that monster will come back…”

“Right!” Chen Xiao forced himself to rally—never expecting that the Black Knight would truly target Xu Ershao this time! The creature called Tyrannosaurus had left a shock on Chen Xiao no less severe than Autumn Fall’s visit.

Just then, a thunderous bellow erupted from the courtyard outside! The three of them turned pale at once—it was the Tyrannosaurus!

Heavy footsteps thundered toward them. Chen Xiao, weak as he was, could barely remain upright, let alone flee. Xu Ershao hoisted him onto his shoulder, but the beast was already at the wall; there was no time to escape…

“Hold my hand!” Bai Cai bit her lip, her resolve steely. Without hesitation, she grabbed both Chen Xiao and Xu Ershao by the hand, and the three youths huddled together in the corner…

The Tyrannosaurus barreled back through the hole in the wall. Seeing the spot where Chen Xiao had been trapped now empty, he erupted in rage: “Cunning brats! Escaped, have you?! Where are you?! Where?!”

Yet, Chen Xiao’s face was oddly bemused—they were standing barely two meters away, pressed against the corner, less than ten paces from the beast, and yet it could not see them!

Truly invisible!

He held fast to Bai Cai’s hand, feeling her palm slick with sweat. Looking up, he saw a strange look in her eyes and sweat pouring down her brow…

Something was wrong with her.

A chill ran through Chen Xiao’s heart.

The Tyrannosaurus, after a bout of roaring, began a rampage of destruction. He was a walking engine of annihilation—his immense strength and iron-hard body were like a tank with no brakes, crashing through the house, his fists bringing down wall after wall, the sound of falling masonry echoing ceaselessly. The Xu family mansion, once filled with priceless furnishings, now lay in ruins beneath his iron fists.

In no time at all, it was impossible to say how many walls had been shattered. The entire building groaned as if on the verge of collapse, steel beams twisting with hideous shrieks, the house trembling like a feverish patient seized by a violent chill.

“The house is going to collapse!” Chen Xiao was the first to react. Xu Ershao snapped out of it as well, dragging Chen Xiao toward the exit. But his grip was suddenly heavy—Bai Cai’s face had turned as white as paper, and when he gave her a gentle tug, she nearly collapsed. Startled, Xu Ershao wasted no time, supporting both Chen Xiao and Bai Cai, mustering every ounce of strength to stagger through the wrecked walls.

Barely a dozen steps outside, a deafening crash exploded behind them. Rubble and dust filled the air, shards of stone and glass flying everywhere as a cloud of dust billowed skyward.

Behind them, the mansion—worth over a hundred million—had crumbled in a heap.

The three youths were caught by the wave of dust, and Xu Ershao, spent, tumbled to the ground with his companions in a tangled heap.

Bai Cai let out a cry of pain—her knee scraped raw beneath her skirt, blood trickling down her pale legs. Xu Ershao, panting, quickly tore a strip from his robe to wipe away the blood, then hurriedly pushed both Bai Cai and Chen Xiao into a nearby flowerbed, where they finally caught their breath.

“Where’s that monster? Could he have been crushed by the collapse?” Xu Ershao peeked nervously through the blooms. Chen Xiao knew it was impossible—the creature’s body was terrifyingly tough, bullets couldn’t penetrate his hide, and even with Chen Xiao’s own strength, he couldn’t inflict a scratch. The collapse would be little more than a tickle.

Sure enough, he saw a mound rise suddenly from the rubble. After a guttural snarl, two slabs of wall were flung aside, and the monster’s figure rose again, shaking his head and flashing a hideous grin: “Hahahahaha!”

Xu Ershao, terrified, shrank back into the flowerbed.

Just then, a woman’s voice rang out from afar, sharp with reproach: “Tyrannosaurus! What are you doing now? If you kill the target by accident and ruin everything, will you take responsibility?!”

A figure in the Xu family servants’ uniform approached from across the yard. As she neared, the muscles of her face twisted, and she transformed into the toxic woman, Alice!

This woman’s disguise skills were truly extraordinary!

Tyrannosaurus, however, seemed unimpressed. He growled, “Woman, stop bossing me around! I don’t need you telling me how to do things!”

Alice snapped back, “Let me ask you—smashing up the house, crashing through walls, making all this noise—where are they? The target was right beside you and got away!”

Tyrannosaurus retorted, “And you? What have you done, woman?”

Alice’s eyes flashed with anger. “Idiot! Autumn Fall put me in charge of this mission, and you have to go and ignore my orders!”

The mention of Autumn Fall seemed to cow Tyrannosaurus; he grunted sullenly and fell silent.

“Finding them is the priority!” Alice, a seasoned esper, was far sharper than the brute. Quickly, she deduced, “I suspect the enemy has an esper skilled in camouflage or escape. Hmph! All you know is brute force—do you ever pay attention to details?!”

She paced back and forth, then suddenly sniffed the air. Her eyes lit up as she spotted a drop of blood on the ground and a strip of cloth—precisely the piece Xu Ershao had torn from his robe to wipe Bai Cai’s wound. A few messy footprints led off toward the flowerbed…

A sly, venomous smile curled Alice’s lips as she sauntered over. “Will you come out on your own,” she said coldly, “or do I have to force you?”

The three youths inside felt a chill run down their spines.

Alice, hands clasped behind her back, strolled to the edge of the flowerbed. Instead of barging in, she simply bent down gracefully and leaned in to sniff a blooming flower, her face enraptured. In an instant, the flower wilted, its crimson petals turning yellow, then dropping away, leaving nothing but a bare stalk.

“Don’t make me use poison, children. Be good and come out on your own,” Alice cooed sweetly, her smile charming, her voice dripping with honey—but in her eyes, a serpent’s glint.

Chen Xiao sighed, exchanging a look with Bai Cai and Xu Ershao. He managed a wry smile. “Well, it seems there’s no way out. We’re no match for them.”

He was the first to speak. “All right, we’re coming out. No need for more poison—there’s no point in hurting the flowers.”

Pushing aside the foliage, the three stumbled out, disheveled and battered. Chen Xiao’s clothes were torn in several places from the earlier fight, Bai Cai’s face was ghostly pale and she clung to Xu Ershao, barely able to stand. Xu Ershao, though slightly steadier, seemed resigned, and declared loudly, “Who are you people? If it’s a kidnapping, just name your price. But you mustn’t hurt my friends!”

Alice gave Xu Ershao a sidelong glance. “How noble, little one.” Her gaze then rested on Chen Xiao, her lips curling with mischief. “Pretty boy, this time you’re in my hands. Did you ever think the tables would turn, after you ruined my plan the other day?”

Chen Xiao grunted and said nothing.

Soon, all three were scooped up by the Tyrannosaurus, who carried them effortlessly in his arms as he barreled out of the Xu mansion. The mansion was built into the side of a mountain—the finest district in K City, home to many wealthy estates, with the Xu family perched atop the very summit. Tyrannosaurus, with his massive, iron-hard body, plunged straight into the forest, ignoring the winding mountain road, smashing through the undergrowth like a human bulldozer. Any tree or obstacle in his way was toppled with a single blow.

After this wild dash through the mountain, they emerged onto a secluded road where a heavy-duty truck was parked. The three captives were thrown into the cargo hold. Before they boarded, Alice sidled up to Chen Xiao, a wicked smile on her lips.

“You’re a strong one, aren’t you? If you tried to smash the truck and escape, that wouldn’t do at all.”

With that, her eyes gleamed with malice. Suddenly, she leaned in and kissed Chen Xiao full on the lips!

Chen Xiao, weakened, had no strength to resist. His body went rigid, his mind blank. He felt her soft, delicate tongue trace his lips, carrying a faint, sweet taste…

Immediately afterward, he felt his whole body seize up. With a thud, he collapsed backward, every muscle turned to stone, unable to move even a finger.

One thought echoed in his mind: Salivary… toxin!
