Chapter Thirty-Six: The Nine-Tailed White Fox
“Hahaha, human, you’re courting death!” The nine-tailed white fox communicated telepathically, its golden eyes brimming with ferocity.
“If you refuse to submit, then I’ll have to fight until you yield.”
The aura surrounding Luoyuan suddenly surged, the pressure of a War God causing the group of phantom foxes to tense as if facing a formidable enemy. Among humans, a War God equated to a lord-level monster.
“Howl~ Howl~”
At the nine-tailed white fox’s command, the other nine high-tier beast-level phantom foxes quickly formed a strange formation. Their eyes began to turn red, mouths opened skyward as if gathering something within, and waves of invisible energy spread outwards.
Luoyuan didn’t rush to attack; instead, he watched as yellow attribute bubbles fell from the high-level phantom foxes, delighting him. He swiftly collected them with his mental strength, paying special attention to the bubbles dropped by the nine-tailed white fox, which were tinged with green. Could it be that lord-level monsters or human War Gods dropped green attribute bubbles?

………………
Good heavens, Luoyuan’s eyes shone with joy. These high-level phantom foxes were his experience troves, and he planned to tame them as pets.
The nine high-level phantom foxes gathered invisible spheres of light in their mouths, then suddenly lowered their heads and shot them toward the nine-tailed white fox. Instantly, they became listless as the spheres fused into the nine-tailed fox’s body. Its aura intensified, body enlarged, snow-white fur grew longer, draping over its form like a cloak of winter.
The transformation took only a few breaths. The fox’s pupils shifted to a golden-red hue, strange red markings appeared on its forehead, lending it an otherworldly appearance. The attribute bubbles it dropped now turned entirely green.
“Mental strength +15”

“Interesting, you’ve reached the initial lord-level. Though it’s only a temporary state, it’s still not enough!” Luoyuan remained utterly unperturbed, instead feeling eager and excited.
“Human, die!”
The nine-tailed white fox’s telepathic message rang out. Luoyuan merely stood his ground, smiling disdainfully, his expression provocative.
“Bang~ Bang~ Bang~~”
Its nine tails shot at Luoyuan like cannonballs, moving at supersonic speed, forceful enough to pierce holes in the skyscraper’s floor, as if stabbing tofu with a knife.
Luoyuan’s perfect-level evasion technique unfolded flawlessly, allowing him to weave through the nine-tailed fox’s attacks as if teleporting. He even gathered attribute bubbles along the way. Despite its furious barrage, the nine-tailed fox didn’t so much as touch the hem of Luoyuan’s clothing, growing increasingly frenzied and embarrassed.
The nine-tailed fox knew its current state was temporary; once the augmentation ended, the phantom foxes would be at the mercy of the human War God.
“Is this all? Fine, I’m pressed for time. If you have any ultimate moves, use them now.” Luoyuan yawned, telepathically taunting the nine-tailed fox.
“Howl~, human, don’t get cocky. Witness my Divine Illusion Strike!”
Suddenly, the nine-tailed fox opened its mouth to the sky, gathering mental power. After a moment, it unleashed a mental wave at Luoyuan, ripples spreading outward. Luoyuan felt a bout of dizziness in his mind.
When he regained his senses, he found himself standing atop a vast lake. Strangely, he stood upon the water without sinking. Information flooded his mind: this was his sea of consciousness, the expansive lake formed from his mental power, which he could manipulate at will.
“This seems to be my first time inside my own sea of consciousness. It’s immense,” Luoyuan murmured, sensing the domain.
“Howl~ Impossible! How could a mere initial War God possess such a powerful sea of consciousness?”
Suddenly, a childish voice rang out. Luoyuan looked down to find a miniature nine-tailed white fox at his feet, confined by the lake formed of mental energy, unable to move.
Luoyuan grabbed the fox by the scruff. The little white fox snarled at him, its antics oddly adorable. Glancing between its legs, he confirmed it was a female. Feeling violated, her eyes reddened with anger.
“Who told you to invade my sea of consciousness? Admit defeat or not?” Luoyuan asked.
“Human, you’re courting death!” the nine-tailed fox retorted, stretching its head defiantly.
Luoyuan laughed, tossing the fox onto the lake. With a thought, the mental energy of the lake surged, condensing into countless transparent flying knives that suspended in the air, all aimed at the white fox. In a blink, she was surrounded by thousands of blades, each radiating a terrifying aura of slaughter.
“I’ll give you one chance to reconsider your answer. Admit defeat or not?” Luoyuan narrowed his eyes, his voice cold.
The nine-tailed fox shrank back, gazing at the countless spiritual knives encircling her. As a noble nine-tailed fox, she possessed immense potential and a long future ahead—she couldn’t die here. If her spiritual form dissipated, she’d become a soulless shell, eventually devoured by other monsters. Besides, seeing this young human wield such power, following him might not be so bad.
“Master, I—I submit!” The nine-tailed fox collapsed onto the lake, her pride shattered by the threat of death.
“Excellent. To prove your loyalty, I’ll leave a strand of my mental energy at the core of your sea of consciousness. Should you betray me, I’ll detonate it. If it doesn’t kill you, it will make you wish for death.” Luoyuan, recalling beast-taming methods from fantasy novels he’d read in his past life, enacted the procedure, unsure if it would work but willing to try.
Returning to reality, Luoyuan found himself on the hundredth floor of a dilapidated skyscraper. His senses restored, the previous scene felt surreal, almost fantastical. Yet, recalling that Luofeng’s sea of consciousness housed a massive metal sphere, he realized that was even more bizarre than his own experience.
Luoyuan looked at the nine-tailed white fox, whose ferocity had vanished, replaced by docility. Its big head nuzzled Luoyuan gently, the snow-white fur sleek and smooth. The other nine phantom foxes, apparently under orders, bowed respectfully to him.
“All right, from now on you’re called Little White. You will relocate to the county of number 0231 beside the Northern Military District of Jiangnan Base City. Conceal your presence at all times—do not act without my command. If needed, I’ll communicate with you telepathically.” Luoyuan instructed the nine-tailed fox.
“Yes, Master!” the nine-tailed fox replied, nodding.
