Chapter Ninety-Eight: Cosmic-Grade Cloud-Soaring Battle Armor
The spacecraft continued onward. After a month of travel, it finally arrived at the coordinates corresponding to the Solar System in the dark universe.
Because the spatial coordinates here had been completely concealed by the space techniques of the master of the Meteor Black Star, other spacecrafts wishing to come to Earth could only pass through a wormhole and then endure a long voyage through the cosmos before reaching it. Luo Yuan and the others, however, could come directly by cosmic shuttling.
"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six... three, two, one! Cosmic shuttle!"
In the dark universe, as the spacecraft came to a halt, it was instantly repelled out by the dark universe itself, streaking back to the Solar System in the original universe.
On December 10, 2063 of the Chinese calendar, a triangular spacecraft entered Earth and arrived above Yangzhou City, the satellite city of the Jiangnan Base City in China on the Asian continent.
After Luo Feng, Hong, and Thunder God led the star-level slaves they had purchased down from the spacecraft, Luo Yuan took another ride and reached the ancient-style palace on his mist-wreathed mountain summit. He put away the ship, then ordered ten universe-level ninth-tier attendants to go separately to the several ancient civilization ruins on Earth to investigate. Those ancient ruins also held the star-level and planetary-level slaves he had once purchased.
When Luo Yuan returned to the palace bedroom, he found that Jiang Fang had already arrived. She had deliberately put on makeup today, making her look much more alluring, and she was wearing nothing but a thin dress.
Luo Yuan wrapped an arm around Jiang Fang's slender waist and said, "You're quite fast."
Jiang Fang smiled coquettishly. "I calculated when you'd be back, so I came early and waited for you here."
"Oh? The virtual universe still isn't enough to satisfy you?" Luo Yuan said with a teasing raise of his brows.
"The virtual universe can simulate reality to one hundred percent, but it's still virtual. There is still a gap between it and the real thing." Leaning in his arms, Jiang Fang said this softly.
"And what exactly is that gap? I want to try it." Luo Yuan scooped her up in one motion and carried her toward the bedroom.
...
The next day, Luo Yuan stood on the muddy ground of Earth's wilderness zone in a dark-gold force battle suit. His eyes swept over the surroundings like blades, and the beasts in the area were so terrified that they fled in a frenzy.
"Cloud-Veiling Vine."
Luo Yuan sent over a thought.
"Mm!"
The Cloud-Veiling Vine responded with an ecstatic pulse of will. Then, with Luo Yuan spreading both arms, countless vines shot outward madly in all directions.
Centered on Luo Yuan, vines nearly a meter thick and so long that the eye could not see their end spread over the land like gigantic pythons, flooding the heavens and earth.
At the same time, from those thick, endless vines extended countless thinner tendrils and a profusion of leaves.
Blotting out the sky and covering the earth.
Hiss! Hiss! Hiss! Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!
Large numbers of vines and roots plunged directly into the soil, as though piercing tofu, and rapidly extended deeper and deeper into the earth.
Each main vine was thirty thousand meters long, or thirty kilometers. There were a full thirty-six vines, each thirty kilometers in length. Each carried countless smaller tendrils and leaves, and beneath them spread an equally lush and immense root system. In an instant, this rolling, vast mountain range, at least the surrounding stretch of land, was entirely rooted and merged into by those vines.
At the core of the Cloud-Veiling Vine's spread stood Luo Yuan, clad in alloy battle armor.
"Now is the most critical moment." Luo Yuan took a deep breath, his eyes fixed on a huge leaf swaying before him.
With a flip of his hand, an almost transparent stone box appeared. Luo Yuan stared at the faint glimmer within the transparent stone box and drew a deep breath before opening it.
Snap.
The stone box opened, and with a tremor of his wrist, the "fruit of life" within, carrying an intoxicating fragrance, flew straight up and toward the enormous leaf. At once, the leaf thrust upward violently, like a giant mouth, and swallowed the fruit of life in one bite.
Sizzle...
The huge leaf quickly shrank back into the ground.
Luo Yuan immediately saw on the screen of his wristguard that deep underground, green light was coursing through the thick vines like lightning. The vines themselves seemed to be beating like a heart, swelling and contracting from time to time, yet each expansion was greater than each contraction, causing their bodies to grow larger and larger.
On the screen, a blood-red vine was undergoing changes of breathtaking intensity. Like boiling water, the already massively thick vine had green protrusions appearing all over its surface, and then those green bulges were absorbed and vanished. Yet occasionally some of the protrusions would burst open directly, like bubbles popping.
Sizzle...
Countless vines and fine tendrils were also whipping about frantically.
Though the evolution was taking place deep underground, Luo Yuan could still feel the faint trembling beneath his feet.
At this moment, the thick main vine was undergoing rapid transformation. All along its length, patches of outer skin were frequently shedding away, and the fresh vine revealed beneath was quickly becoming twisted and tenacious before shedding again. In the process, the vine as a whole was also continuously growing thicker and longer.
It was as though a sapling were becoming a towering tree, compressed into the span of just two or three hours.
"After consuming the fruit of life, it should normally take many years to evolve, but it has progressed in such a short time now. The probing equipment actually cannot detect this body of the Cloud-Veiling Vine. However, based on the ratio, the length of a single main vine has now reached about 210 kilometers!" Luo Yuan thought in astonishment.
He kept staring fixedly at the screen.
The evolution was still continuing.
Minute after minute passed. On the screen, the vine gave the impression of containing inexhaustible power, and its color had already shifted from the earlier blood-red to a deeper, richer hue that could only be called dark crimson.
"Mm!"
A vast thought filled with joy and attachment entered Luo Yuan's mind.
"It has succeeded in its metamorphosis." Luo Yuan's eyes lit up.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...
Deep underground, the seventy-two main vines, each now three hundred kilometers long, rapidly contracted and shrank, while the fine tendrils and leaves swiftly folded away and vanished. As they shrank, the Cloud-Veiling Vine surged upward, making the ground beneath Luo Yuan bulge as though some colossal thing were about to burst forth.
Boom...
After shrinking by a factor of one hundred, the still enormous Cloud-Veiling Vine burst out of the earth.
Seventy-two dark-crimson vines, now only three kilometers long and about thirty centimeters wide, danced through the night sky. At the same time, the immensely dense and massive root system instantly enveloped Luo Yuan and kept shrinking. In the blink of an eye, the sky-covering Cloud-Veiling Vine rapidly contracted onto Luo Yuan's body, becoming exquisitely small and adorable.
The core of the root system merged into Luo Yuan's skin.
Seventy-two thumb-thick little vines still spread across a range of a hundred meters, then danced once around and formed a complete set of dark-crimson armor, helmet, and battle boots over Luo Yuan's body. Even his fingers were covered in dark-crimson gloves.
Luo Yuan could feel the fearsome strength of the Cloud-Veiling battle suit on him.
Even if he did not exert much force, a single punch would, by the explosive power of the Cloud-Veiling Vine alone, be enough to turn a hundred kilometers of Earth into ruins, with the resulting shockwave spreading for over a thousand kilometers. This was the might of a second-tier universe-level Cloud-Veiling Vine!
However, Luo Yuan still intended to use the Cloud-Veiling Vine as one of his trump cards, so he had it become his inner armor and then wore over it the fifth-tier force battle suit that only a domain lord would be qualified to use. Instantly, he felt a profound sense of security.
