Chapter 149: Unknown Powerful Enemy
"Then you'll have to see if you have what it takes!"
"Crystal Wall!"
Mu immediately released his psychokinesis, erecting a spherical barrier around them and enclosing all three within it.
Rumble!
The violent wind lashed out like an enraged dragon, yet it utterly failed to breach the barrier of the Crystal Wall.
Soon, the gale subsided, but the three of them were completely buried under a mound of earth and rubble, leaving not a sliver of light in sight.
"Open!"
Mu gently stamped his foot. The entire Crystal Wall first violently contracted, then rebounded with great force, instantly blasting away the thick layer of earth pressing down upon it.
"If this is the extent of your abilities, I'm afraid you won't be able to kill us!" he said coldly, gazing into the depths of the continent.
"Ignorant and fearless!"
A cold snort echoed from the depths of the continent, and instantly, a blinding streak of light shot forth, crashing directly into the Crystal Wall before Mu.
"A pebble?"
The moment the stream of light collided with the Crystal Wall, Mu finally saw clearly that it was merely a thumb-sized pebble, imbued with the power of the Cosmo.
Crack!
With a deafening crash, the entire Crystal Wall shattered into the air like glass.
The streak of light did not stop; it continued shooting straight into the Crystal Wall.
However, because two juniors were standing behind him, Mu dared not dodge. He could only cross his arms in a defensive posture, channeling his Cosmo over the surface of his body, preparing to take the fierce beam of light head-on.
Bang!
The streak of light slammed into his arms with an incomparably terrifying force. The golden arm-guards shattered, and Mu instantly felt his arms go numb. The next moment, he, along with Yingshiqiao and Shun behind him, was sent flying backward.
Boom, boom, boom!
The three of them smashed through dozens of small hills in succession before finally coming to a halt, embedded deep within a mountain face.
Mu was at the very front. His arms were already twisted and deformed, and blood continuously gushed from his chest. Yingshiqiao and Shun were pinned into the rock face behind him.
"Ugh—"
He struggled to stand up, but his arms were fractured and deformed, devoid of any strength.
This movement aggravated his wounds, and a sweet taste surged into his throat as he opened his mouth and vomited a mouthful of blood.
"No wonder... no wonder not a single predecessor ever walked out of the Continent of Mu. No wonder..." Blood stained the corner of Mu's mouth as he smiled bitterly.
A mere pebble imbued with the enemy's Cosmo had effortlessly shattered his Crystal Wall, broken his Gold Cloth arm-guards, pierced through his arms, penetrated the chest plate of his Gold Cloth, and finally torn through his body, leaving him gravely wounded.
Such an existence completely exceeded his imagination.
Only a deity could compare to it.
"Mr. Mu, are you alright?" Behind him, Yingshiqiao asked anxiously, quietly channeling the divine dew into Mu's wounds.
He and Shun were rather lucky; the beam of light that pierced Mu's body had grazed past his shoulder, failing to directly harm either of them.
"I won't die just yet, but my arms are useless, and I can't stand up! By the way, how are you and Shun?" Sensing Yingshiqiao's subtle actions, Mu did not refuse, instead inquiring about their condition.
"I am unhurt. As for Shun, he was knocked unconscious by the shockwave!" Yingshiqiao carefully moved Mu off of himself.
Because Mu had blocked the vast majority of the attack, he and Shun had only been affected by the aftermath.
Even so, Shun had still been knocked out by the continuous impacts against the mountain.
Immediately afterward, with the aid of Mu's psychokinesis, Yingshiqiao shifted Mu from his body to the side, and then extricated Shun from the rock wall.
"Huh? You're still not dead yet? The Gold Cloth is truly quite interesting!" From the depths of the continent came a voice of mild surprise.
By his estimation, without the protection of the Gold Cloth, Mu should have been crushed to death by his previous attack.
Mu wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, stepped forward, and looked out toward the depths of the continent. "I know I am no match for you, but at least let me know who killed me."
Treated by the lunar dew, the wounds on his body had healed significantly, and even his fractured arms had mostly recovered, allowing him to move them.
"Could it be that, with your strength, you don't even have the courage to state your name? Are you content to be a coward hiding in the shadows?" While continuing to provoke the adversary, he used his psychokinesis to communicate quietly with Yingshiqiao.
"I am truly sorry. Because of my carelessness and miscalculation, I have dragged both of you into mortal danger."
Yingshiqiao immediately replied via psychokinesis: "How can life always go as one wishes? This is not your fault."
"Besides, it is not yet the final moment. It is far too early for us to speak of giving up, Mr. Mu!"
He had already separated a portion of his consciousness, plunging it deep into his Cosmo to suppress that ancient, near-tangible sword Qi.
Unless absolutely necessary, he was reluctant to use the sword Qi left behind by the old Daoist priest.
Especially with a Gold Saint like Mu right before his eyes.
Yet the fellow in the depths of the Continent of Mu left no room for negotiation, fully intent on putting everyone to death.
He had no choice.
However, he still faced one major difficulty.
That was his inability to lock onto the enemy's precise location; he possessed a trump card yet could find no target upon which to unleash his attack.
Receiving Yingshiqiao's reply, Mu sighed inwardly. *Indeed, it is not yet the final moment. How could I grow so disheartened? I am actually falling short of a Silver junior!*
With this thought, his heart, which had trembled in the face of such overwhelming strength, regained its calm.
"It is merely death! What is there to fear?" he encouraged himself silently.
Meanwhile, hearing Mu's mockery, another voice of disdain rang out from the depths of the continent.
"A mere Gold Saint wishes to know my identity? You overestimate yourself far too much!"
"If it weren't for the fact that no one has spoken with me for so long, making me feel utterly bored, the moment you set foot upon this land, you would already be corpses!"
"Now, I have played enough; I shall send you back into the embrace of Athena."
Before the words faded, Yingshiqiao and Shun suddenly felt a tightness around them as an unimaginably terrifying psychokinetic force transformed into an invisible hand, gripping them tightly, intending to crush them piece by piece within its grasp.
Crack, crack, crack!
To Yingshiqiao's horror, the Sculptor Cloth rapidly deformed and cracked. He could even hear the sound of his own bones being squeezed and fractured, as if he would be crushed into dust the very next second.
"How can this be... I am not resigned..." Seeing death approach, Yingshiqiao was filled with terror.
He had not even laid eyes on the enemy yet, and though he held a trump card capable of slaying a primary deity, he was about to die in such an ignominious fashion.
He was unwilling to accept this.
"Ah—"
Suddenly, a piercing scream echoed from beside him.
It was the unconscious Shun, awakened by the agony inflicted by that invisible, crushing pressure.
Lacking a Cloth, and even inferior in strength to Mu and Yingshiqiao, he was the first to reach his breaking point under such terrifying pressure.
"Shun—"
Seeing this, Mu was frantic with anxiety, yet utterly helpless.
At present, he could barely protect his own life; he was in no position to save anyone else.
Snap!
Another bone was crushed, and Shun's piercing scream cut off abruptly as the pain dragged him back into total unconsciousness.
Yet, at that very instant, an inexpressibly terrifying Cosmo aura erupted from Shun's body.
He slowly raised his head, fixing his vacant eyes upon the depths of the continent.
