Chapter Seventy-Nine: He Truly Is My Disciple
At last, they had settled down, and the family no longer dwelled on matters of the clan. Letting such thoughts linger would only sour what had been a fairly pleasant mood.
In the days that followed, Yan Yuanqing and Shi Yurou hardly busied themselves with anything. At Yan Yuanqing’s suggestion, Shi Yurou had resigned from her position within the family’s business. As for that meager salary, Yan Yuanqing had always looked down upon it.
“I’ll ask Yuan Hongyu to arrange a better job for you. The Cangzhou Central Hospital is a fine choice. The environment there is far more relaxed and fair—nothing like the chaos and toxicity of the Shi family’s clinic.”
“Alright, I’ll follow your lead,” Shi Yurou replied, increasingly willing to listen to Yan Yuanqing. Sometimes, she even showed a gentle, obedient side. As for when she might become the sort of woman who would cling to Yan Yuanqing like a delicate bird, he believed that day would not be far off.
When a woman truly falls for someone and begins to rely on them, even developing habits around that person, those habits are hard to break. They might even influence her daily routines and the style of her life.
“Master, Madam’s job has been arranged. She can report to our hospital tomorrow morning; someone will guide her to her post,” Yuan Hongyu announced. “And perhaps you could come by as well, Master—visit our Traditional Medicine Hall, perhaps play a guest role.”
Yan Yuanqing smiled. “That last sentence was what you were really waiting for, wasn’t it?”
“Haha, I didn’t expect you to see through me so easily, Master. I’m ashamed.”
The next afternoon, Yan Yuanqing brought Shi Yurou to Cangzhou Central Hospital. Hospitals always seem bustling, their crowds never thinning. Every hour, someone falls ill, and people come to handle all manner of affairs.
“Yan Yuanqing and Shi Yurou? Oh, forgive me—I didn’t recognize you at first. Please, follow me. Everything is ready; you need only sign the employment contract and paperwork, and you can officially begin work.”
“This position is one everyone here wishes for—not only are the salary and benefits excellent, but, most importantly, the workload isn’t as heavy as other posts.”
“May I be so bold as to ask a question?”
“Go ahead.”
“What is your relationship with Physician Yuan? He seems to value you both highly—in fact, he even recommended this young lady’s appointment during a hospital meeting!”
“Such a move, if made by anyone else, would likely result in disciplinary action or outright dismissal.”
Upon hearing this, Yan Yuanqing realized that Yuan Hongyu had taken a considerable risk to arrange Shi Yurou’s employment. Such actions, while rewarding, could easily offend others if not handled delicately.
After all, raising a matter unrelated to the meeting during important hospital conferences was likely to provoke resentment.
“Oh, if you insist, he’s my apprentice,” Yan Yuanqing replied.
“Sir, you must be joking! Physician Yuan has already helped you so much—how could you poke fun at him now?”
The staff member seemed somewhat displeased, thinking Yan Yuanqing was disrespecting Yuan Hongyu. Yan Yuanqing sighed in mild exasperation.
“If you don’t believe me, just ask him. Ask Yuan Hongyu if Yan Yuanqing is his master. Go ahead—I assure you, it’s the truth.”
“This…” The staff member was struck speechless, unable to think of what to say. It all sounded far too incredible.
Finally, they reached the place to sign. The staff guided Shi Yurou through the paperwork and agreements.
“Congratulations—from this moment, you are officially a member of the Cangzhou Central Hospital family!”
