Chapter 106: The Blue Light Is No Ordinary Glow

“Why? Why don’t you eat us?” The officer zombie, Ji Yun, widened his eyes, glaring fiercely at Du Yun.

“Then why do you want to eat us?” Du Yun replied righteously, seemingly unfazed by his hostile expression.

Everyone else anxiously held their breath for Du Yun. The mere thought of being devoured at the slightest provocation was terrifying and deeply unsettling. Despite her calm exterior, Du Yun’s heart was pounding; if she got eaten, who knew how terrible it would be?

“Why eat you?” Ji Yun seemed momentarily stunned by the question, then began to ponder seriously.

The scene of a high-level zombie contemplating the reason for eating humans couldn’t have been more terrifying. Yet, everyone dared not move an inch, afraid that interrupting his train of thought would result in them becoming his next meal.

“I’m hungry!” After a long pause, Ji Yun finally realized the reason. With a somewhat embarrassed look, he declared with righteous conviction, “I’m hungry!”

“Being hungry doesn’t mean you have to eat people. Look at us—we haven’t bathed for ages, covered in mud and sweat. Eating us would be so dirty!” Du Yun held back an urge to scoff, trying to appear as gentle and persuasive as possible. She casually pulled a loaf of bread from her storage compartment, holding it up for Ji Yun to see.

“Look, you were once human too. When humans are hungry, they eat things like this.” Du Yun tore open the bread’s packaging and took a small bite, wearing an expression of pure enjoyment. “Mmm, this bread is so soft and delicious.”

“Really?” Though Ji Yun had regained some memories and intelligence, he seemed to lack the sensory memories of being human. Skeptical, he approached Du Yun and snatched the bread from her hand, taking a bite himself.

“Hmph! You’re lying! This tastes awful!” Suddenly, he threw the bread to the ground and grabbed Du Yun by the collar, glaring fiercely with red eyes blazing—a terrifying sight.

“I’m not!” Du Yun shouted, feeling her neck tighten dangerously. If he squeezed any harder, she might not survive.

“Stop!” Their leader arrived at that moment. Having just absorbed energy from an energy crystal, he wasn’t as powerful as Ji Yun but was strong enough to intervene. He tightly grasped Ji Yun’s hand, anxiously watching Du Yun, fearing she might lose her life if he wasn’t careful.

“I’m fine,” Du Yun croaked, gasping for breath but still able to speak. Taking a deep breath to calm herself and reassure their leader, she turned to Ji Yun. “There are plenty of human foods. If you don’t like bread, there’s rice, buns, noodles, and all kinds of dishes. If you try them all, you’ll find something you like.”

“Is that true?” Ji Yun seemed moved by her confident words. He’d been a zombie for a long time, and the things he’d eaten had been far from appetizing. Suddenly, encountering living humans sparked a curiosity to try something fresh.

“Yes, yes! I can cook now. As long as I find the ingredients, I can make delicious meals!” Du Yun nodded eagerly, silently pleading for his interest—she didn’t want to become a zombie’s next meal.

“Alright, I won’t eat you if you cook for me,” Ji Yun said after some thought, releasing her collar.

“Good, but you can’t eat anyone else, or I won’t cook for you!” Du Yun’s heart finally settled, though she remained wary of any hidden motives he might have. For now, they needed to establish a truce.

“You…” Ji Yun instinctively felt something was off, but unsure what, he hesitated before reluctantly nodding. “Alright.”

“Phew.” Hearing this, everyone finally exhaled in relief. The looming shadow of being eaten was unbearable. Living was far better than dying.

“There are plenty of ingredients down here. We’ll collect them. Wait for us. Once we’re back on the starship, we’ll cook for you.” In this back-and-forth, Du Yun seemed to have found a pattern. Ji Yun, though a high-level zombie, was like a big child. If they just followed his lead and spoke in terms he understood, he wouldn’t make things too difficult.

Meanwhile, another high-level zombie, Little Niu, was happily playing with Taozi. Taozi shared her rations with Little Niu. The dry rations, which a normal person would struggle to chew, were snapped up crisply by Little Niu with great delight.

With the immediate threat lifted, everyone moved quickly, digging through the debris to retrieve supplies and loading them into a cart. Yet, even after filling only about a tenth of it, there was no more room.

“What do we do now?” The team was dumbfounded. These supplies were vital.

“Go back first!” Their leader glanced at Du Yun and called the team to board the cart. Du Yun knew her role. Once on the moving vehicle, before it departed, she focused her mental energy and stored the remaining supplies in her compartments.

Seeing the supply icons, Du Yun beamed with joy. The Hammer Starship truly was an elite force. These supplies were far superior to the nutrient packs she had relied on before. Best of all, they even had packaged meats and vegetables—simply perfect.

When the cart reached the starship’s vicinity, Du Yun noticed Ji Yun, who had been sitting quietly beside her, suddenly stiffen, adopting a defensive posture.

“What’s wrong?” Du Yun asked, glancing in the direction Ji Yun was staring. Not far from their captured starship, a vessel bathed in blue light was slowly passing by. Ji Yun’s gaze was fixed on that glowing blue ship.

“That light… I woke up inside that light!” Ji Yun’s eyes darkened momentarily as he spoke, as if becoming a different person. But in the next instant, red veins spread across his eyes until they were completely enveloped, and he resumed his zombie form.

“That blue light brought you back to consciousness?” Du Yun sensed a crucial clue. She quickly turned to Little Niu. “Did you also wake up inside that blue light? Did you start speaking only after being exposed to it?”

“I think so… After I woke up, I found myself rising inside the blue light. Then, others above me turned into red stones and were absorbed away. I was scared and ran away,” Little Niu recalled the scene, growing agitated. He gripped the side of the energy absorption cart so tightly that he tore a large hole in it.

“There’s something strange about that blue light!” After hearing Little Niu’s story, everyone’s minds filled with that thought. What secrets could be hidden within that blue glow?
