Chapter 149: The Further You Go, The Better
"Huh? Alright, alright!" Seeing Du Yun offer him a faint smile and stride toward the tall sorghum fields, Dong Yuejin wore a lovesick, infatuated grin like a pig. He hastily wiped away some drool that had escaped God knows when, straightened his clothes, and hurried to catch up.
As for Du Yun at this moment, she was completely different from her previous breezy and cheerful demeanor. An intense chill radiated from her entire being, as if she could freeze everything around her solid, making anyone shudder just by looking at her.
An aura like that was sharp enough to make even seasoned special forces veterans like the team leader tread carefully, let alone an ordinary, weak farm boy. Yet some men let lust blind them, rendering their eyes completely useless, completely unaware of the perilous situation they were walking into.
"Sister Du Yun, I'm coming!" The dark and chubby Dong Yuejin narrowed his already small eyes into slits as he smiled. Seeing Du Yun reach the edge of the sorghum fields in just a few quick steps, he scrambled eagerly after her.
It was the peak of summer, and the lush green corn leaves intertwined to form a dense canopy of vegetation that completely blocked out any view. Just seconds after Du Yun stepped into the cornfield, Dong Yuejin, trailing right behind, had already lost sight of her.
"Sister Du Yun? Sister Du Yun?" Dong Yuejin walked deeper into the field, completely thrilled. The lush green corn leaves blocked his vision, forcing him to push them aside stalk by stalk.
Assuming Du Yun had simply gone deeper in out of shyness, Dong Yuejin didn't suspect a thing. He hurried forward with eager anticipation, not even caring when the corn blades scratched his face. His singular focus was finding Du Yun and stealing a taste of her beauty.
"Sister Du Yun, where are you?" Dong Yuejin's heart burned with heat, feeling like a kettle of boiling water set over a stove, while layer upon layer of happy little bubbles fizzed and popped within him. He even felt as though his mental state had ascended to a higher plane; surprisingly, he found this game of hide-and-seek in the sorghum fields immensely fun, and he anticipated the sweet reward awaiting him even more.
"Sister Du Yun? Sister Du Yun, where are you?" Dong Yuejin parted yet another leaf and poked his head through to search for Du Yun. His expression looked utterly sneaky and wretched, much like Zhu Bajie stumbling into a heavenly marriage.
"I'm right here!" Du Yun's clear, crisp voice rang right in Dong Yuejin's ear. Just as a flicker of joy welled up in his chest, he felt a tremendous force slam into him, violently hurling him outward.
"Ah!" Dong Yuejin felt his vision go black, a wave of dizziness spinning through his head, accompanied by a dull, aching soreness in his nasal cavity. He collapsed backward into a patch of flattened corn stalks, dizzy and disoriented. "Sis... Sister Du Yun, what are you doing?"
Du Yun was no ordinary fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl, nor was she some ignorant little miss. One look at the expression on Dong Yuejin's face told her precisely what was running through his mind, and a surge of furious anger rose from the depths of her heart.
"I'm not doing anything. I'm just here to warn you: stay away from me in the future, and stop harboring any filthy ideas about me." Du Yun looked down at Dong Yuejin with a cold gaze, a wave of revulsion churning inside her, though she managed to barely keep her emotions in check as she spoke.
She reasoned with herself inwardly: even a smiling face doesn't invite a slap, and since Dong Yuejin at least fancied her—flirtatious as his attitude might be—she shouldn't discriminate against him simply because he was ugly.
"Oh come on, Sister Du Yun, what are you talking about? I like you so much, and I want to spend my whole life with you! If I stay far away from you, won't you be stuck in an empty room all by yourself?" Hearing Du Yun's words, Dong Yuejin felt no fear whatsoever of being threatened. Instead, he scrambled right back up to his feet, sidled over with a wretched grin, and reached out with two large, dark hands to grab Du Yun.
"What are you doing? You still want to take advantage of me? Let me show you what I'm truly capable of!" Seeing that sickening, lustful expression plastered across Dong Yuejin's face—as if it had grown right out of his skin—Du Yun felt the meager one-part anger she held plunge straight into a pot of boiling oil, instantly sizzling into a roaring boil.
The thought of simply setting things straight with Dong Yuejin and walking away was completely swept clean by her surging fury. Clenching her fair, delicate hand into a fist, she delivered a vicious blow straight into Dong Yuejin's body.
"Ouch!" Dong Yuejin had been pampered and spoiled since childhood, never having even worked the fields; how could he possibly endure such treatment? Taking Du Yun's punch straight to the chest, he let out a loud, miserable howl. "Why are you actually playing rough?!"
"You're still howling?" Seeing Dong Yuejin wailing so pathetically, and remembering the way he had just spoken to her with such uninhibited flirtation, Du Yun felt the fire in her chest flare even higher. With a swift leg sweep, she knocked him flat onto the ground once more, her fists raining down blow after blow, landing solidly against his flesh.
Fortunately, Du Yun knew her physical strength had improved significantly and feared accidentally beating someone to death, so she purposely targeted the thickest muscles and most painful spots on Dong Yuejin's body. As her punches hammered down like raindrops, Dong Yuejin shrieked and wailed at the top of his lungs, though none of the injuries were life-threatening.
"Ah! Sister Du Yun, spare my life!" Knocked flat by Du Yun, Dong Yuejin felt the world spin wildly around him. Before he could even figure out what was happening, sharp pain wracked his entire body.
Dong Yuejin was fundamentally a coward who bullied the weak and feared the strong—a textbook example of the third generation of a family whose wealth couldn't survive past three generations. Having grown up wrapped in cotton wool without tasting a single hardship, words like perseverance or resilience simply didn't exist in his vocabulary. Now, beaten by a young girl, he could only howl for mercy, completely incapable of summoning even a sliver of the will to fight back.
"Spare your life? When you were looking at me with that lustful gaze, why didn't you think about sparing *my* life? Do you have any idea how sick to my stomach you make me?!" Looking at Dong Yuejin curled into a pathetic heap on the ground, Du Yun felt even more distressed. Being targeted by a man like this was infinitely more revolting than having a toad step on one's foot.
"I... you... I..." Dong Yuejin stammered for a long time without managing to form a single complete sentence. Trembling under the barrage of Du Yun's fists, he shrank into a tight ball, leaving Du Yun with the frustrating sensation of punching a pile of cotton.
After being sickened by Dong Yuejin for so long, Du Yun realized that while her counterattack could knock him down, it couldn't wash away the lingering sense of disgust he had brought upon her. She couldn't help but grind her teeth together with a sharp click.
"I'm warning you: get as far away from me as you possibly can. If I ever catch you eyeing me with those thoughts again, you'd better start making arrangements for someone to collect your corpse!" Furious, Du Yun delivered two more ruthless kicks to Dong Yuejin. Watching him roll on the ground, wailing and frantically swearing that he would never harbor such thoughts again, she vented a portion of her pent-up rage. Dropping this harsh warning, she turned on her heel and strode away.
Du Yun left with extreme haste, failing to notice that Dong Yuejin—who had been cowering and curled up on the ground—had stopped trembling at some point. Slowly, he lifted his face from the dirt, revealing an expressionless countenance bruised in shades of blue and red.
