Chapter 155: The Counterattack Begins
The third monster siege had begun, and countless monstrous hordes swept across the entire Heavenly Dragon City. Relying on the reinforced city walls, the players managed to hold off the initial assaults of the monster army. However, no one expected the scale of this siege to vastly surpass the previous two. Hundreds of various monster bosses, leading countless minions, forcefully breached the city and shattered the walls. In an instant, the entire inner city was swarming with massive, terrifying monsters.
The monster army launched its most ferocious offensive, placing immense pressure on the players. Finding it difficult to hold their ground, the players collapsed and retreated into the inner city one after another. By the time I entered, all the players had already fallen back to the inner city, relying on the second wall and the system's defensive turrets. These turrets had been deployed during the last update, presumably in preparation for this exact siege battle.
However, the appearance of the Gatling T-Rex treated these monsters to a spectacle they would never forget in their lifetimes.
A gigantic, majestic Dragon Warrior cleared the path ahead, flanked by Amaterasu and the Sonic Werewolf as bodyguards. Right in the middle, the Gatling T-Rex continuously spewed tongues of fire from its rotary cannon, cutting through everything in its path with unstoppable momentum and peerless dominance. Meanwhile, flanked and protected at the very center like the moon surrounded by stars, Phantom Moon and I watched our experience points soar rapidly, grinning from ear to ear.
"Big brother! Big brother! Is that you?" Long Xin sent me a message.
I replied, "Of course, who else could it be besides your big brother!"
"Haha! You brat, you've finally arrived!" Ye Shuang also shouted at me.
"Amaterasu, Dragon Warrior, help me block them."
"Understood."
"Yes, master!"
With that, both of their weapons danced incessantly. Wherever they struck, blood splattered, and none could withstand them. In the blink of an eye, the ground was left littered with corpses.
Phantom Moon and I mounted the Gatling T-Rex while recalling the Sonic Werewolf. "What are we going to do?" she asked.
"Going back," I replied, then commanded the Gatling T-Rex to engage its helium booster. The Gatling T-Rex lowered its body as the jetpack on its back began to charge. About a minute later, I recalled the Dragon Warrior, and Amaterasu jumped to my side. At that moment, I noticed Phantom Moon pouting. Could she possibly be jealous of Amaterasu?!
I didn't dwell on it and immediately shouted, "Release!"
With that, the Gatling T-Rex shot forward like an arrow released from a bowstring. The surrounding monsters couldn't stop it at all; any that got close were sent flying upon impact. Whenever it encountered a particularly bulky one, it would simply leap over it. We bounced off the heads of one monster after another, bobbing up and down just like riding a roller coaster—no, it was far more thrilling than a roller coaster.
Soon, the inner city wall loomed right before us. At the time, I thought it would leap straight over the wall, but in reality, it didn't jump across. Instead, it clung directly to the vertical surface of the wall, sprinting straight up. After clearing the height of the wall, it executed a 720-degree mid-air spin and smashed into the ground like a meteorite, thus reuniting with everyone.
Upon landing, everyone turned their heads to stare at us. I instantly felt deeply embarrassed. The Gatling T-Rex's body then faded away into the crowd, and once out of people's sight, I made my way up to the inner city wall.
Before me lay a pitch-black, densely packed sea of monsters, so numerous that it was utterly impossible to count them all. After the brief commotion just moments ago, our players had immediately returned to their respective posts to hold off the thousands of monsters. At this moment, I also summoned the Gatling T-Rex back to my side. The Gatling barrels began to spin once again, and long tongues of fire swept out frantically. Following that, four artillery tubes extended from its back, blasting silver bolts of energy in all directions. The sound of explosions was deafening, and each attack dealt area-of-effect splash damage. With monsters covering the ground as numerous as the hairs on an ox, a single blast of energy could obliterate an entire cluster of them, making its destructive power self-evident.
Next, the true heavyweights of the mechanized army took the stage. When it came to the destructive power of the mechanical monsters under my command, if it claimed second place, no one would dare claim first. The Mecha Tyrannosaurus let out a long roar and lunged forward, soaring high to clear the towering inner city wall and landing directly amidst the pile of monsters. Immediately following this, energy beams lashed out one after another from the cannons on its back, blasting the monsters into a state of utter devastation. Then, its mechanical claws shot out, grabbing the nearest Black-Winged Wolf King.
Dragging the creature straight into its maw, the sickening sound of crunching and chewing echoed out. Having finished off this monster, the Mecha Tyrannosaurus roared loudly and lunged toward its second target.
Seeing the "mechanized division" under my command take the lead in vaulting out of the inner city to launch a counterattack, everyone couldn't help but feel a surge of renewed spirit. Dozens of boss-tier monsters, teamed up with countless enhanced elites and regular beasts, smashed toward the city walls from all directions. Every single building inside Heavenly Dragon City was subjected to fierce attacks in an instant. However, the players holding down the inner city also began their counteroffensive. Top-tier free players like A Sword Apart, Little Rookie, and Purple Moon, alongside major Heavenly Dragon City guild factions such as Beacon Fire, Snowy Night, and Imperial Dynasty, leaped down from the ramparts into the inner city, instantly erupting into a brutal, fierce battle.
Every single monster here possessed a strength and level that was in no way inferior to current average players. As for the boss-tier monsters, defeating them required players to rely on human-wave tactics. In a one-on-one showdown against top-tier experts like A Sword Apart, they were not inferior in the slightest. Furthermore, with the bosses backed by millions of minions, the two sides' combat power was completely disproportionate. Purple Moon's Hellish Flame Fiend alone was entangled by two bosses and thousands of trash-mob monsters, and though it continuously unleashed furious roars, it was unable to achieve victory anytime soon.
With a whoosh, a figure enveloped in eerie light streaked across the sky in an instant and landed atop the high inner city ramparts. A staff descended from the heavens, landing a heavy blow on a two-headed ape that had just climbed up the wall and sending it crashing down to the base of the wall. Following that, an explosion sounded, instantly cratering the ground into a hollow pit where the monsters below vanished completely without a trace.
Having casually dispatched the two-headed ape, I retrieved the Ruyi Staff and launched attacks at other monsters, simultaneously summoning my other beasts into the fray. One monster after another then transformed into my experience points. These ordinary monsters were utterly fragile under my hands. However, at that moment, I noticed an archer girl trapped by three bosses, struggling to secure a victory. Without hesitation, I immediately led the Sonic Werewolf and the Gatling T-Rex forward, dashing in a flash to where the archer girl was cornered in the center by the joint assault of the three bosses.
With a roar, one of the three bosses—a Mountain Lion King—opened its mouth and spewed a violent pillar of wind directly at the Gatling T-Rex. Yet, the attack only managed to shave off a meager -10 HP from the Gatling T-Rex. While the beast stood there in shock, the Sonic Werewolf had already leaped onto its back, pummeling the Mountain Lion King's head with a furious flurry of heavy punches. Before long, thick white brains burst forth from the completely shattered fragments of its skull.
"Weiwei Dragon! Thanks." At that moment, I saw that this archer girl was actually Fiery Phoenix. Her spirits lifted as she dashed backward sharply, vibrant purple flames instantly surging across the large purple bow in her hand. In a flash, they transformed into continuous streaks of purple arrows, which she fired madly at one of the Black Bear Kings. Meanwhile, the Sonic Werewolf leaped in front of the Black Bear King, flashed a ferocious grin, and splaying out all four limbs, slammed both paws flat against the creature's chest. With a sudden contraction and a sharp rip, its ten claws dug forcefully deep into the boss's flesh and locked tight. Letting out a mighty roar, it hoisted the massive, six-to-seven-meter-tall Black Bear King entirely off the ground as effortlessly as lifting a cloth doll, and hurled it far into the distance.
With a rushing sound, the boss flew far away and crashed heavily into a large group of monsters on the other side. With a deafening boom, seven or eight ordinary beasts caught in the blast were completely pulverized and smashed into a bloody pulp by that insane force, dying instantly on the spot.
The final boss, an Earth-Stone Demon, made a thoroughly idiotic move: it clamped its jaws directly onto the Gatling T-Rex's gun barrel and swallowed a full barrage of bullets.
I turned to Fiery Phoenix and said, "Long time no see!"
