Chapter 102: Joining My Wife’s Company

Honored Guest A gentle breeze carries a light rain. 3132 words 2026-03-25 00:13:26

“Are you really that set on me, Dong? There are so many beautiful flowers in the company, and yet you insist on picking a winter plum blossom.”

Wei Jiadong’s expression turned flirtatious as well. He lifted the woman’s chin with a finger and asked, “Do you want me to pick you?”

The woman’s eyes were so sultry they seemed on the verge of spilling over with desire. “I’ve been waiting for Dong to come and pick me.”

Wei Jiadong burst out laughing, pinched her plump bottom, then leaned close to her ear and whispered breathily, “If I don’t get to meet that ice-cold beauty tonight, I’ll come pick you instead.”

With that, he walked past her with an ambiguous smile.

The woman watched his retreating back and coyly scolded him, “Hateful.” Yet her face was flushed with eager anticipation.

Wei Jiadong was planning to leave. He did not believe that Shen Zhijun could resist such a temptation, and so he felt no need to remain at the company any longer. He would simply wait for her to take the bait.

Chen Yuyi had already arrived at Shen Zhijun’s company. Before coming, he had learned something of the company’s current situation from people Bai Lang had arranged there, and he had intended to help his “wife” if he could.

Just as he stepped into the elevator, he ran into Wei Jiadong, who was coming out.

That day, Wei Jiadong had glimpsed Chen Yuyi in Shen Zhijun’s car, and that single glance had been enough to make the man unforgettable. Of course, he had always possessed an extraordinary memory himself.

Now, seeing Chen Yuyi again, he could not help but freeze for a moment.

But he gave no sign of it, only looking Chen Yuyi over deeply before brushing past him.

Chen Yuyi also merely glanced at him coolly. He naturally remembered the man as well. More than that, he could sense something unusual about him. If he was not mistaken, this man was an expert, perhaps even stronger than an ordinary grandmaster. As for whether he had reached the level of a martial sovereign, that was still uncertain. But that hardly mattered. What interested Chen Yuyi about Wei Jiadong was whether this man might be the one who had once sent assassins after him.

He paid it no mind and headed to the reception desk, since this was his first time inside the company and he did not even know where the president’s office was.

“Sir, how may I help you?” the receptionist asked lazily while filing her freshly manicured nails.

“I’m looking for President Shen. Which office is hers?” Chen Yuyi intended to ask and then go find her himself. Seeing the receptionist’s indifferent attitude, he could tell that the company was truly in danger of going under.

Only then did the receptionist lift her head and look at him. “I’m sorry, sir. The president can’t be disturbed at random. Do you have an appointment?”

Chen Yuyi shook his head. Did he need an appointment just to see his own wife?

“Then I’m afraid not. Our president is very busy and has no time to see unimportant people. You can make an appointment with me first, and when our president has time, I’ll notify you to come.”

The receptionist had been in a bad mood lately. The company’s downturn had even cut her salary, and she was already planning to quit at the end of the month. She had long since lost all enthusiasm for her work. Seeing that Chen Yuyi was neither a familiar face nor someone who looked like a boss, she did not even bother to ask more and only wanted to send him away as quickly as possible.

Chen Yuyi gave her a look and ignored her completely, walking straight into the company.

The girl hurried to stop him, but could not, and had no choice but to call security.

Soon, several security guards rushed over and blocked Chen Yuyi’s path.

“Sir, please do not trespass in our company,” they said suspiciously, each holding a plastic baton.

Chen Yuyi frowned. Coming to his wife’s company only to be obstructed at every turn was beginning to annoy him.

Of course, he was not about to tell them that he was their president’s husband. He had promised to keep it secret for Shen Zhijun’s sake, and besides, he did not want to hurt these people.

He shook his head and was about to call his “president wife” instead.

Just then, Shen Zhijun’s secretary, Shi Qingqing, happened to pass by.

“What’s going on here?”

“Miss Shi, this man is barging into our company and says he wants to see the president. We’re driving him out right now,” the lead guard explained.

Shi Qingqing did not know Chen Yuyi. However, that day when he had waited downstairs for Shen Zhijun, she had seen him get into Shen Zhijun’s car and had guessed at their relationship. Later, Chen Yuyi never showed up again, so she had not thought much of it.

Now that she saw him again, she could not be certain what his relationship to the president was, so she did not dare be careless. At once she asked, “Sir, may I ask who you are? What business do you have with our president?”

Chen Yuyi looked at her and found her easier to deal with than the girl at the front desk, so he said, “Tell your president that a Mr. Chen is here to see her. She’ll know who I am.”

Shi Qingqing could tell that Chen Yuyi was no ordinary person and did not dare be negligent. She immediately called Shen Zhijun.

“What? That person came to my company?” On the other end, Shen Zhijun nearly jumped up. The moment she heard that someone surnamed Chen had come to see her, she sharply sensed that it must be her “husband.” She had never imagined that this “husband” of hers would actually dare to come to her company.

“What is he here for? Did he say?” Shi Qingqing could not help glancing at Chen Yuyi.

“President, this gentleman didn’t say why he came, but it seems he really does have something to discuss with you.”

“Have him wait in the reception room. I still have work to finish. Once I’m done, I’ll go see him.”

“All right, President.”

After hanging up, Shi Qingqing gestured to the guards. They all looked at Chen Yuyi with surprise, only now realizing that he truly knew the president. They had nearly laid hands on him. That receptionist had not even bothered to ask what was going on and had nearly gotten them all in trouble.

Each of them bowed slightly to Chen Yuyi and apologized before returning to their posts.

Chen Yuyi did not care in the least and followed Shi Qingqing to the reception room.

There, another person was already seated: an elderly man with a kindly face, hair combed perfectly into place, and an air of scholarly refinement about him.

When he saw Chen Yuyi enter, he inclined his head slightly in greeting, looking very benevolent.

Chen Yuyi nodded back and said nothing, simply sitting down to wait.

He knew his wife was a workaholic, so he felt it best to wait for her. Since he had already come to the company, there was no rush.

“Professor Qiu, I’m terribly sorry to have kept you waiting!” Soon, a young woman wearing black-framed glasses hurried into the reception room and apologized profusely to the elderly man.

The old man chuckled. “It’s fine. The flight tired me out as well, so it’s actually a good chance to rest.”

“That’s wonderful. We’ve been looking forward to your arrival every single day. Now that you’re here, the research problem that has been troubling our company is absolutely no longer a problem!”

The woman with glasses did not even look at Chen Yuyi, treating the old man with great respect.

By then, others from the same department as the bespectacled woman had also arrived. They were all young women, each carrying a different scent of perfume. It seemed they were distinct from the rest of the company: their clothes were very casual, and each of them wore heavy makeup, as though they used a great deal of cosmetics. Upon seeing Professor Qiu, they hurried over one after another, shaking his hand and offering greetings, their manner warm and enthusiastic.

“With Professor Qiu here, we can finally breathe easy!” said a tall, thin woman with a smile.

“That’s right. We’ve barely slept at all these past days, losing weight from all the worry. Now that Professor Qiu is here, we’ll finally be able to sleep soundly again!” added another woman, a little plumper than the rest.

“You flatter me too much,” Professor Qiu said with a laugh. “I can’t guarantee one hundred percent that I’ll be able to solve this research problem. I’ll need to examine all the detailed materials and experimental results before I can reach a final conclusion. But I’ll do my best not to disappoint everyone.”

“Professor Qiu, this way please.” The woman with glasses made an inviting gesture.

Professor Qiu rose as well and followed the women toward the research department.

Chen Yuyi stood there thoughtfully for a moment, said nothing, then got up and followed.

When they reached the research division, the place was filled with the mixed scents of perfume and various cosmetics.

After changing into lab coats along with the others, Chen Yuyi still said nothing, quietly following behind Professor Qiu.

In the eyes of the women, he seemed to be some sort of assistant to Professor Qiu, and they all greeted him with faint, friendly smiles.

Professor Qiu, seeing this, assumed the young man must be someone from their department, perhaps the quiet type, and did not think much of it.

Once in the research department, Professor Qiu also became somewhat grave and began carefully examining a thick stack of documents.

Chen Yuyi, meanwhile, wandered around the experiment and observed it.

Looking at the row upon row of test tubes on the laboratory table, he reached out, intending to pick one up and smell it.

“Don’t touch the samples!”
