Chapter 151: Giving the Father-in-Law a Business Opportunity
After guiding Qi Yun and Yuan Xiang for a while at Longchi Villa and handing them a few pills to aid their cultivation, Chen Yuyi returned to the Shen family residence.
“Brother-in-law!”
As soon as he stepped through the door, a delicate figure greeted him—none other than Shen Youlin herself.
Without hesitation, she threw herself into Chen Yuyi’s arms.
Caught off guard, Chen Yuyi could only hold her carefully to prevent her from falling.
“Brother-in-law, why did you stay out so long before coming back?” Shen Youlin looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with a trace of moisture, a hint of grievance in her voice.
Chen Yuyi gently ruffled her hair. “It’s not like I was gone for years. You make it sound as if I’ve been away forever.”
Just then, Xu Ruizhi, having heard the commotion, appeared. Seeing her little daughter clinging to Chen Yuyi, she paused briefly before smiling. “You’ve just returned, Youlin. Let your brother-in-law rest a while—don’t cling to him so much.”
“Oh, my dear son-in-law, you’ve finally come back!” Shen Chengde immediately emerged as well, his posture suggesting he wanted to give Chen Yuyi a hug.
However, noticing Shen Youlin nestled in Chen Yuyi’s arms, he refrained.
At that moment, seeing both her parents present, Shen Youlin blushed and shyly slipped out of Chen Yuyi’s embrace. “Brother-in-law, let me get you some tea.”
With that, she obediently went to pour tea for Chen Yuyi.
Shen Chengde, unsure of how to react, thought perhaps their youngest daughter was a bit overly affectionate toward this son-in-law. Still, since they were family, it was not a big deal.
Chen Yuyi smiled softly and shook his head. Seeing everyone here gave him a warm sense of belonging.
“Brother-in-law, many people came looking for you while you were away,” Shen Youlin said, carrying a cup of tea over.
“Yes, Yu’er, quite a few visitors came during your absence,” Xu Ruizhi chimed in.
“Who were they?” Chen Yuyi asked curiously.
“Many we didn’t know. But once they heard you had gone far away, they didn’t stay long and left,” Shen Chengde added.
“Oh,” Chen Yuyi responded lightly, uninterested in their identities.
“By the way, your sister’s close friend from Jiangnan, Miss Liang, also came looking for you,” Shen Youlin tilted her head, pondering why her sister’s friend would seek out her brother-in-law.
Chen Yuyi smiled gently. “Let’s not concern ourselves with those people. Youlin, brother-in-law has a gift for you. Do you like it?”
He produced a sparkling pendant—an artifact crafted from the blood crystal of a demon beast. It was elegant and feminine, suitable for a young lady to wear. Nowadays, he had as many such artifacts as he wished, each unique.
Shen Youlin immediately adored it, turning the pendant over and over in her hands before happily hanging it around her neck.
“Dad, Mom, you get these too,” Chen Yuyi said, presenting two more exquisite pieces—one shaped like a ring, the other a bracelet, both translucent and radiant.
Shen Chengde and Xu Ruizhi held them, reluctant to let go.
“Yu’er, where did these come from? Wearing them feels so comfortable,” Xu Ruizhi remarked after slipping on the bracelet, feeling a soothing warmth coursing through her body.
“I made them myself,” Chen Yuyi replied with a soft smile.
Xu Ruizhi exclaimed, “They must be magical artifacts then!”
Chen Yuyi nodded. “Indeed, but these differ from the mundane artifacts you’re used to.”
Shen Youlin’s eyes sparkled with countless stars. “Brother-in-law, what makes them different?”
Chen Yuyi glanced at the fruit knife on the tea table and flicked his finger. Instantly, the knife flew toward Shen Youlin.
Terrified, she screamed.
Xu Ruizhi and Shen Chengde were shocked. “Yu’er, what are you doing—?”
Before they could finish, a golden glow flashed from the pendant around Shen Youlin’s neck, and the fruit knife was forcefully repelled, clattering to the floor far away.
Everyone in the Shen household was stunned.
“These not only nurture the body but also provide protection. They can block any dangerous attack—even bullets,” Chen Yuyi said with a slight smile.
Shen Youlin’s mouth hung open in astonishment. After a long moment, she patted her small chest and said, “Brother-in-law, you scared me!”
Her face was filled with disbelief. “They can block bullets? You’re amazing!” She nearly leapt into his arms again. Were her parents not sitting nearby, she might have kissed him in sheer admiration.
Shen Chengde, coming back to his senses, cradled the ring like a treasured gem. “Incredible! How much would something like this be worth on the market?”
Xu Ruizhi shot him a glare. “All you think about is money. Now that Yu’er is with us, do we still lack money?”
Shen Chengde quickly chuckled awkwardly. “I spoke carelessly, I spoke carelessly.”
Chen Yuyi smiled lightly. “Once you put them on, don’t take them off casually. Also, Dad, I have a business opportunity to introduce to you.”
“A business? What kind of business?” Shen Chengde eagerly leaned in.
Chen Yuyi smiled. “As you said, the value of these on the market is incalculable. I have some defective pieces here. They have similar functions to what I gave you but with limited effectiveness. Keeping them serves no purpose, so it’s better you handle them. You know many influential people. You can set the prices as you see fit.”
He then pulled out a dozen small artifacts—imperfect products from his crafting process. Though they also had nurturing effects, their protection could only withstand three attacks. Still, such items would be coveted by many. Since they were of limited use to him, it was best to make a favor for his father-in-law.
Shen Chengde was delighted. “Son-in-law, you really take care of me, don’t you?”
Chen Yuyi smiled softly. “You often say there are no business opportunities. Well, here’s one. These won’t do me any good, but selling them is better than discarding.”
“Indeed, indeed!” Shen Chengde nodded enthusiastically, his eyes shining with excitement.
Xu Ruizhi glanced at him. “Since Yu’er asked you to handle this, be sure to do it well. Don’t be foolish and let those big shots take advantage.”
“Of course not! I’m not that stupid. I won’t sell these for less than tens of millions,” Shen Chengde said cautiously as he carefully packed the dozen artifacts away, already overjoyed.
“One more thing, Dad. When you sell to them, be sure to explain that the protection only works three times. But for ordinary people, as long as they don’t act recklessly, three times is enough to keep them safe for a lifetime,” Chen Yuyi reminded him.
“Yu’er, rest assured. I’ll handle this properly and won’t let you down.”
Seeing his father-in-law so pleased, Chen Yuyi smiled faintly. If this went well, he wouldn’t mind entrusting more defective pieces to him for sale.
Shen Youlin gazed at Chen Yuyi with admiration, feeling immense happiness to have such a capable brother-in-law.
After staying a while longer at the Shen residence, Chen Yuyi said, “From now on, you don’t need to keep count of my meals.” With that, he left.
“Why doesn’t Yu’er eat at home anymore?” Xu Ruizhi wondered.
“Perhaps too many people invite him out to eat,” Shen Chengde guessed.
Shen Youlin rolled her eyes at her father. “Do you think brother-in-law likes socializing that much? I believe he’s truly become immortal—he doesn’t need to eat anymore.” Then she giggled. Having an immortal brother-in-law is truly a blessing.
It was a pity her sister loved work so much that she didn’t cherish such a husband properly. But I can take care of brother-in-law in my sister’s stead!
Thinking this, her cheeks flushed a rosy hue.
Just as Chen Yuyi left, Shen Zhujun returned.
Hearing that someone had come back, she was pleased. But learning he hadn’t even sat down before leaving again, she ground her teeth in frustration—a mix of disappointment and anger welling up inside.
Chen Yuyi arrived at the entrance of Feiyang Bar.
He felt a twinge of nostalgia as memories of working there surfaced.
“Yan Jie, long time no see!”
