Chapter 47: Disabled?
The clerk acted as if she hadn't heard a thing, unmoving. Chen Yuyi raised an eyebrow slightly. "What, are you afraid I can't afford it?"
The clerk forced a thin smile. "Sir, this suit is from Italy's finest brand. Among all the brands, it has the highest proportion of handcrafting, and its production is extremely limited. Our store has only this one piece. Its price is three times that of the suit you looked at earlier!"
Though she explained patiently, she was itching to grab a broom and chase Chen Yuyi out then and there.
“What’s going on?” The manager walked over. He had actually seen the situation from afar and, noticing that Chen Yuyi hadn’t left, now decided to intervene.
The clerk immediately breathed a sigh of relief, giving the manager a coy smile, as if thanking him, her expression carrying a hint of flirtation.
The manager responded with a cheerful grin and made a gesture only the two of them could decipher, an ambiguous sign that betrayed their intimate relationship.
“This is not a place for ordinary customers,” the manager said coldly to Chen Yuyi. “Please don’t cause trouble here!”
Chen Yuyi replied calmly, “It was Young Master Bai who told me to choose clothes here.”
The clerk rolled her eyes. This man was shameless, claiming to know Young Master Bai. As if Bai would have such friends—clearly he was just trying to fool them.
The manager’s face grew colder. “Why don’t you say Chairman Bai sent you as well?” His voice darkened. “If you don’t leave, I’ll call security.” He reached for his walkie-talkie, no longer bothering to be polite.
A few bystanders, hoping for some entertainment, scattered at the mention of security.
Chen Yuyi narrowed his eyes slightly. As expected, this world is full of people who judge by appearances. It seems there’s no need to show Bai Lang any courtesy.
Soon, several security guards in uniform appeared, wielding plastic batons.
The manager pointed at Chen Yuyi. “Remove him at once!”
The guards surrounded Chen Yuyi, their expressions hostile. “Sir, please leave, don’t make this difficult for us,” they said, brandishing their batons.
Chen Yuyi smiled faintly and waved his hand.
The guards were swept aside as if caught in a strong wind, stumbling and sprawling across the floor.
They looked at Chen Yuyi in terror.
These guards were ordinary people; Chen Yuyi had no intention of harming them seriously. After all, they were just following orders. So they merely fell to the ground, uninjured.
The guards realized things were going badly. None dared get up; they were just employees, paid to stand guard.
Chen Yuyi then fixed a cold gaze on the manager and the female clerk.
Seeing the guards knocked down in an instant, the manager and clerk were startled. Chen Yuyi's gaze unnerved them, and they retreated two steps, frightened by the unexpected strength of this country bumpkin.
The clerk clung tightly to the manager’s sleeve, panting slightly. “Manager, what should we do? He even took down the security guards—will he come after us next?”
Despite her fear, her eyes still showed disdain, as if to say: country bumpkins always resort to violence.
The manager steadied himself. “Don’t worry, he won’t dare. I’ll call Captain Gao. He used to be a mercenary—far tougher than these guards!” He picked up the phone, and after making the call, seemed somewhat reassured.
“You there, don’t come any closer. Wait right where you are. Captain Gao from the World Trade Security Team will be here soon. You’ll be crippled!” he snarled viciously, shaken by Chen Yuyi’s gaze and already plotting to have him maimed. Money would settle any consequences, he figured.
Chen Yuyi chuckled softly. “Crippled? Very well, I’ll wait.”
Not long after, footsteps sounded. A burly man with a crew cut strode over, surrounded by several guards.
The fallen guards quickly scrambled up, their faces brightening. No longer afraid, they even sneered, convinced that Chen Yuyi was about to suffer.
Their captain was a legendary mercenary, reputed to have killed men. Though he had only recently taken charge, his name was already known throughout the security community.
His skills surpassed all the guards combined; some believed he could take on a hundred men single-handedly.
So none of them thought Chen Yuyi could possibly match Captain Gao, no matter what had just happened.
“Manager Xu, who’s causing trouble here?” Captain Gao asked as soon as he arrived.
The manager pointed at Chen Yuyi. “That kid, Captain Gao. Break his legs. I’ll take full responsibility for whatever happens!”
Captain Gao glanced at Chen Yuyi, and suddenly his pupils contracted sharply. He rushed toward Chen Yuyi.
Everyone smirked, expecting to see Chen Yuyi’s miserable fate.
The manager was especially smug, his eyes gleaming with malicious delight. Dare to threaten me? I’ll make you suffer!
The female clerk turned away, anticipating violence, but her lips curled in a satisfied smile. She’d wasted enough words on this country bumpkin—now he’d get what he deserved.
But to everyone’s astonishment, Captain Gao dropped to his knees before Chen Yuyi!
He bowed his head repeatedly, saying, “Forgive me, sir! Forgive me, sir! Forgive me, sir!”
What was going on?
Everyone was stunned.
The guards rubbed their eyes in disbelief. Was that really their captain? Wasn’t he supposed to be able to fight a hundred men?
The manager’s mouth twitched, momentarily speechless.
The clerk, having turned away, heard no sounds of violence and peeked back, her mouth forming a silent “Oh.”
Chen Yuyi regarded Captain Gao coolly, finding him somewhat familiar. He soon recalled: this was Gao Er, once the chief security officer at the Zhang family’s estate. He hadn’t killed him then, and now Gao Er had lowered his status, working as a security captain at this mall.
“Very well. You didn’t know, so no blame. Stand up. Just now, someone said my legs should be broken. What do you think should be done?” Chen Yuyi spoke with hands clasped behind his back, his face expressionless.
Gao Er immediately looked up at Manager Xu, then stood and walked toward him.
Everyone sensed a chilling change in Captain Gao, a murderous aura that sent a shiver through the crowd. This was the presence of someone who had truly killed.
At this moment, they understood deeply: Captain Gao had indeed killed before, and more than once. No wonder he was called the mercenary king; everyone instinctively shrank back in fear.
Manager Xu saw Gao Er approaching and his lips turned pale. “Captain Gao, I told you to cripple that kid—why are you coming for me?”
The clerk released her grip on the manager’s sleeve and edged away, bewildered. What was happening?
She glanced at Chen Yuyi, who stood with hands behind his back, calmly watching the scene, his face devoid of emotion.
Suddenly, she wondered if she had been wrong—perhaps this man really was just here to buy a suit. Why hadn’t she believed him? Now, look at the chaos she’d caused.
Gao Er ignored Manager Xu, advancing step by step.
He had been as good as dead. That day, when Chen Yuyi spared his life, he suddenly developed an attachment to living. His mercenary days had brought him through countless brushes with death, making him think he’d become indifferent, but seeing Chen Yuyi dispatch his men as easily as crushing ants made him realize he, too, was nothing more than an ant.
Since he was a humble ant, he ought to live humbly. After escaping the Zhang estate, he never worked for the wealthy again, instead finding a proper job.
He hadn’t expected to encounter that terrifying figure again. But what did it matter? Survival was paramount. Thus, as soon as Chen Yuyi spoke, he was ready to cripple Manager Xu, even to kill him if ordered.
“Don’t come any closer!” Manager Xu still didn’t understand why Gao Er was approaching him, but deep down he felt danger.
Still, he blamed everything on Chen Yuyi. “Kid, do you believe I can get people from the underworld to kill you?” he shouted angrily.
Then, a scream echoed through the hall.
