Chapter 74: The Return of Spring
A trace of amusement flickered in Chen Yuyi’s eyes as he spoke, for he already had another plan in mind. Yuan Xiang didn’t quite grasp his meaning, nor did she pay much heed to his words. She merely sighed inwardly—since he had said as much, she could only cling to a faint hope, treating the impossible as possible.
Luo Songxing stared intently at Chen Yuyi and asked, “What method do you have to treat this little girl?”
Though he doubted Chen Yuyi’s ability, curiosity got the better of him. Physicians are always intrigued by ailments they cannot cure, eager to witness another’s approach, so he couldn’t help but pose the question. All eyes were fixed on Chen Yuyi, awaiting his actions. The hall was shrouded in silence.
Chen Yuyi took Little Rabbit by the hand, leading her forward and seating her in a chair. “Little Rabbit promised to trust Big Brother, didn’t she? I have a little pill here. If you take it, your illness will be cured. Are you brave enough to eat it?”
Little Rabbit nodded vigorously. “Little Rabbit is good, not afraid of anything bitter!”
With a swift motion, Chen Yuyi produced a dark-colored pill in his palm. “Don’t worry, it’s not bitter, and it won’t get stuck in your throat. Just hold it in your mouth—it’ll dissolve on its own. Go ahead, put it in.”
It was a Hundred-Turn Pill, specifically crafted to resolve issues with the body’s meridians, capable of unblocking even the most tangled channels in ordinary people, and even rebuilding them anew.
Little Rabbit picked up the pill and unhesitatingly popped it into her mouth. Instantly, a sweet flavor slipped down her throat, and she felt every pore in her body opening, an unprecedented sense of ease suffusing her. She felt almost as if she might float away, lighter and more comfortable than ever before.
Everyone looked on in puzzlement. They could not fathom what had just happened. Chen Yuyi had produced a pill seemingly out of nowhere, but they found it hard to believe that a single pill could instantly cure the little girl’s congenital meridian disorder. Some even chuckled quietly to themselves.
“Nonsense!” Luo Songxing blustered, his moustache bristling, eyes wide. “Ignorant fool! Medicine cannot be given so recklessly. If something goes wrong, aren’t you harming this little girl?”
Yuan Xiang also felt a twinge of worry as she watched her daughter and Chen Yuyi. In her heart, she doubted that one pill could cure her daughter’s illness. As for side effects—having chosen to trust Chen Yuyi, she could only place her faith in him. Besides, her daughter had only two years left to live; what more could go wrong?
Chen Yuyi smiled lightly, ignoring the crowd as he gently patted Little Rabbit’s head. “See, Big Brother didn’t trick you. Wasn’t the pill easy to take?”
Little Rabbit nodded, smacking her lips. “It tasted great, even better than candy!”
Chen Yuyi smiled again, already sensing the transformation in Little Rabbit. “Alright, you can get down now. Let that old gentleman check you again.”
Little Rabbit hopped off the chair with newfound vitality, her spirit and energy astonishing everyone around. Luo Songxing stared at her, not even blinking.
Only when Little Rabbit stood before him did Luo Songxing snap out of his daze, hastily feeling her pulse.
The crowd held their breath, awaiting his diagnosis.
After a long moment, Luo Songxing’s aged eyes widened like copper bells, filled with profound disbelief.
“Impossible! Impossible! This is absolutely impossible!” he cried out repeatedly.
The crowd was clearly startled by Luo Songxing’s reaction. All eyes were fixed on him—was it true that the little girl’s illness had been cured? It seemed impossible; even Luo Songxing had been helpless before, so how could it be resolved so easily?
Little Rabbit’s eyes now sparkled with vitality as she blinked rapidly. “Grandpa, is my illness cured now?”
Luo Songxing did not answer, but released her hand, his eyes clouded, his whole figure seeming to age in an instant.
Seeing his expression, the crowd needed no further confirmation; the result was clear, yet disbelief lingered. Their eyes turned like copper bells toward Chen Yuyi.
“Yuan Xiang, come here!” At that moment, Chen Yuyi beckoned to Yuan Xiang.
Yuan Xiang, gazing at her daughter’s radiant face, felt as if she were dreaming. Was Little Rabbit truly cured?
Only when Chen Yuyi called to her did she walk over, almost mechanically.
“I told you I would cure Little Rabbit. Do you believe me now?” Chen Yuyi spoke softly.
Tears welled in Yuan Xiang’s eyes as she nodded repeatedly. Her greatest wish had always been for Little Rabbit to be healthy. When Luo Songxing had declared her daughter only had two years left, she had felt utterly bereft.
Though Luo Songxing had not spoken outright, his expression made it clear—the illness was gone. She was overwhelmed, so moved that she was nearly speechless.
He had truly cured Little Rabbit. At this moment, she could not find words. All her emotions were contained in silence.
“I also promised to make you beautiful again, to restore your youth. I will fulfill that promise now!” Chen Yuyi said softly to Yuan Xiang. Though his voice was not loud, everyone heard it clearly.
He turned his palm, revealing a green pill to Yuan Xiang—the Rejuvenation Pill!
An uproar swept through the crowd!
Restore youth? What kind of miracle was this?
Chen Yuyi had already shattered their expectations by curing the little girl. Now he claimed he could restore youth—a feat defying the natural order!
Everyone understood that youth, once gone, never returns. That is why the wealthy spare no expense to maintain their bodies, hoping to preserve their youth. Yet, no matter how much they spend, their youthful appearance is only surface-deep. If a true medicine could restore youth, they would gladly exhaust their fortunes to obtain it.
Now, they heard such a medicine existed. Their eyes gleamed with envy, no longer mere spectators but desperate seekers.
Yuan Xiang stared dazedly at the pill in Chen Yuyi’s palm, uncertain of its origin, but wondering if this was truly the medicine to make her beautiful again, to restore youth. It seemed incredible, but remembering how Chen Yuyi’s previous pill had cured Little Rabbit instantly, she grew anxious.
She had even been called “Auntie” by others. Could she really regain her former beauty? Though life had been hard, she still cherished a love for beauty. Sometimes, late at night after settling Little Rabbit, she would stand before the mirror, touch her weary face, and sigh quietly, or secretly freshen up to satisfy her hidden longing for loveliness.
Could this pill truly make her beautiful?
“Trust me! Take it!” Chen Yuyi urged gently.
The hall was utterly silent; all eyes watched them, riveted.
Little Rabbit grinned happily, as if she could already see her mother becoming more beautiful than Sister Yun. She knew her mother often prettied herself late at night, and she believed her mother ought to be the most beautiful of all.
Luo Songxing’s eyes widened further. The previous scene had astonished him—now, was another miracle about to unfold? Just how great were Chen Yuyi’s abilities, and how many of these wondrous pills did he possess? No, “pill” was no longer sufficient to describe them. Could they be immortal elixirs?
Yuan Xiang bit her lip, picked up the pill, and swallowed it without hesitation.
The crowd watched her with fixed intensity.
She turned calmly to face them, her mood unexpectedly serene. She did not know whether she would truly regain her youth, but after swallowing the pill, she felt a newfound confidence.
Whether her appearance truly changed or not, she possessed an inner beauty now, feeling every bit as poised and self-assured as the stars on stage. Even her lips curled in a confident smile.
Her hair, streaked with gray, began to darken and shine with visible speed.
The wrinkles on her face smoothed away; her dry skin became supple and moist, radiating a gentle glow.
Her once withered frame transformed—her chest grew proud and full, with the faint sound of her bodice stretching, her hips acquiring graceful curves.
In a flash, the woman whom everyone had barely noticed, dismissed as a mere auntie, left them utterly dumbfounded…
