Everyone was taken aback, their minds conjuring up all sorts of scenarios. Receiving a son-in-law wasn’t unusual, but the fact that this man spoke about it so forthrightly was rather peculiar. Normally, a live-in son-in-law would be quite self-effacing, yet he showed not a trace of embarrassment.

Many young women exaggeratedly covered their mouths in astonishment. That such an outstanding woman as Shen Zhuyan would take in a son-in-law seemed almost unbelievable.

At this moment, Shen Zhuyan herself was at a loss for words. This matter had already been announced in Jiangcheng and was no secret; sooner or later, everyone would know, and she didn’t find it particularly shameful. Yet, seeing everyone apparently mocking Chen Yuyi, she didn’t know why, but she felt a bit uncomfortable.

She gritted her teeth and stood up, declaring, “Yes, he is the son-in-law of the Shen family, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

The gaze of the crowd flickered, and the way they looked at Chen Yuyi changed quietly.

Chen Yuyi only gave a faint smile and continued eating in silence.

The atmosphere in the room grew somewhat awkward.

At this moment, Su Feifei smiled gently and said, “As long as two people love each other, there’s no need to worry about such things. Their happiness is more important than anything else.”

Chen Yuyi nodded slightly to her and smiled, “Miss Su, the jade bracelet you’re wearing looks very lovely. May I have a look at it?”

Everyone looked at each other in surprise. They thought Chen Yuyi would express gratitude or praise, since Su Feifei had just helped him out of an awkward spot. Yet, unexpectedly, he immediately asked the famous actress for her bracelet—such audacity was astonishing.

Shen Zhuyan raised her eyebrows and glared at Chen Yuyi, as if to say, “I’ve told you not to speak carelessly. You’ve already made us the butt of jokes, isn’t that enough embarrassment?”

Zhao Lan’s eyes gleamed with deep amusement, eager to see what Chen Yuyi was up to.

Su Feifei hesitated, since it was her first meeting with Chen Yuyi, but she soon smiled graciously, removed the bracelet, and handed it to him. “Are you interested in such things, Mr. Chen? This was requested for me by Sister Hua from Master Zhong; it has a calming effect and is a spiritual artifact.”

Hearing that it came from Master Zhong, everyone’s eyes filled with envy. It was well known that his spiritual artifacts were rare and costly, and seeing Su Feifei hand it over so generously made people both admire her openness and wonder if Shen Zhuyan’s husband coveted the artifact.

Chen Yuyi took it and once again sensed it with his spiritual power. It was exactly as he had judged before. He smiled, “It’s truly remarkable. I felt refreshed the moment I held it.”

He then handed the jade bracelet back to Su Feifei and suddenly said, “But this isn’t something you should wear often. If you’re willing to listen, Miss Su, you’d best throw it away when you return.”

His words caused everyone’s expressions to freeze.

Su Feifei was startled and asked, “Mr. Chen, do you understand spiritual artifacts?”

Chen Yuyi shook his head. “No, but I can sense when something isn’t auspicious.”

Everyone was immediately displeased—he didn’t understand spiritual artifacts yet told her to throw it away.

Zhao Lan couldn’t help but laugh. This son-in-law of the Shen family was truly unexpected; it seemed she wouldn’t need to do anything herself—he was already causing enough embarrassment.

Shen Zhuyan glared at Chen Yuyi. “Don’t speak carelessly if you don’t understand.”

Smiling, she turned to Su Feifei, “Feifei, don’t mind my husband’s nonsense. He doesn’t know anything, please don’t take offense.”

Yet Su Feifei stared at the jade bracelet, lost in thought, before lifting her head. “Mr. Chen, why do you feel that way?”

Chen Yuyi smiled lightly. “I have said what I needed to say. If you wish to listen, that’s fine; if not, that’s fine too.”

“Alright, Feifei, don’t listen to him. Master Zhong’s blessed artifacts have no issues. Let’s continue drinking!” Some young women cast contemptuous glances at Chen Yuyi, unable to fathom his motives.

For some reason, Su Feifei felt that Chen Yuyi was not speaking offhand, and she was unsure whether she should wear the bracelet again.

Just then, the door to the private room was pushed open.

“Oh my little ancestor, you really did sneak out!”

A woman in her thirties entered. Though her appearance was unremarkable, her attire was fashionable and she had the sharp look of a savvy city woman.

“Hua Jie, how did you find me here?” Su Feifei exclaimed.

The newcomer was her manager, Chang Hua.

Chang Hua entered and nodded to everyone in greeting, then immediately grasped Su Feifei’s hand, “Many big bosses are waiting for you. How could you sneak out? Come back with me!”

She then noticed the jade bracelet had been removed from Su Feifei’s wrist and asked, “My little darling, why did you take it off? I went to a lot of trouble to get this. It not only calms the mind but increases luck. You owe much of your fame to its power.”

A mischievous young woman piped up, “Someone just told Feifei to throw it away!”

Chang Hua’s expression darkened. “This is a spiritual artifact personally blessed by Master Zhong. Who could be so ignorant as to tell Feifei to throw it away?”

Everyone’s gaze turned, deliberately or not, to Chen Yuyi.

Chang Hua understood immediately—it must be him. She scoffed, “Do you really think you know anything about spiritual artifacts?”

Chen Yuyi simply smiled and said nothing.

Zhao Lan spoke up, “He admitted himself that he doesn’t understand, so we can’t figure out why he told Feifei to throw it away.”

Chang Hua was clearly in a hurry; she cast a scornful glance at Chen Yuyi and paid him no further attention, dragging Su Feifei away.

Before leaving, Su Feifei glanced curiously at Chen Yuyi, who nodded to her but said nothing more.

After they left, Zhao Lan continued, “I heard some news: Master Zhong has arrived in Jiangcheng and will hold a spiritual blessing conference in a few days. Why don’t we all stay in Jiangcheng a bit longer and attend together? Maybe we can request an artifact like Feifei’s!”

Her suggestion was met with enthusiastic agreement, even from the female CEO of the lingerie company who was close to Shen Zhuyan; though busy, she said she would rearrange her schedule and return the day after tomorrow.

Shen Zhuyan seemed uninterested and expressed no intention of attending, so everyone was eager to know her decision and turned to her.

Shen Zhuyan shook her head, “My company is facing a critical challenge right now, so I won’t be going.”

Though the others were disappointed, their excitement remained undiminished, and the conversation shifted to the topic of the blessing conference.

Soon, Chen Yuyi was ignored by everyone, and he listened indifferently as they discussed Master Zhong, a faint smile flickering in his eyes.

Zhao Lan glanced at him, “Eldest son-in-law, since Zhuyan has no time for the blessing conference, surely you, as the idle one, must have time.”

Chen Yuyi paid her no mind, eating with unhurried grace.

Zhao Lan’s eyes nearly sparked with fire, but she controlled her impulse and no longer looked at him.

Shen Zhuyan raised her eyebrows slightly. She could sense that Zhao Lan seemed to be targeting someone—likely because he had offended her before. She sighed inwardly; it seemed she could never bring him to any event again, lest he offend everyone.

Just then, she received a call from her mother, her expression changing instantly. She pulled Chen Yuyi to his feet. “Everyone, I’m truly sorry. I can’t stay any longer. Something’s happened at home, and I must leave at once!”

Chen Yuyi was slightly surprised; he had never seen such an expression on Shen Zhuyan’s face.

No one knew what had happened at her home, but seeing her grave demeanor, they understood and did not try to detain her and Chen Yuyi. They stayed behind, drinking and chatting, gossiping even more freely about Chen Yuyi.

Zhao Lan added fuel to the fire with inappropriate embellishments, making everyone burst into laughter.

On the way out, Chen Yuyi couldn’t help asking, “What happened at home?”

“Youlin is in trouble!”
