Chapter 94: Immortal Master
But Xu Ruizhi had no idea who this Mister Chen was, and she certainly did not believe that her bargain son-in-law could be called Mister Chen with such deference. She could not help muttering, “My daughter is clearly with her brother-in-law. Where did this Mister Chen come from?”
Hearing that, Qi Yun’s own doubts were stirred as well. So Mister Chen was her son-in-law, which meant he was already married. Her heart sank at once, but she quickly came to terms with it. What improper thoughts could she possibly harbor toward Mister Chen? To have him regard her as a friend would already be the greatest comfort.
With that thought, she became even more courteous toward Xu Ruizhi.
Suddenly, a series of roars erupted outside. The door was slammed open, and several vacant-eyed figures rushed in.
They were the very people who had earlier shouted angrily at Chen Yuyi.
Their expressions were rigid, their movements strange. Then, with mouths gaping open, they lunged at anyone they saw and tried to bite them, frightening everyone half to death.
“What is going on?” a timid woman shrieked in terror.
At last everyone realized it: there truly was something wrong with this ship.
A few strong men gathered their courage and rushed forward. Together they knocked the intruders down and forcefully shut the door again.
But those vacant-eyed people lay on the floor only for a moment before they suddenly crawled back up, looking even more ferocious.
The stout, wealthy men who had helped subdue them were now frightened too, and kept backing away.
“Walking corpses!” Qi Yun cried. “These people are all walking corpses. Everyone, be careful. Help me restrain them and wait for Mister Chen!”
Her shout sobered everyone, and though they were still terrified, the men understood how grave the situation was. Once again they worked together and finally managed to pin those people down.
But then the door was smashed open again, and even more of those things surged in.
And they bit anyone they saw. Several people had already been bitten by accident, and now they were twitching on the floor, their appearance ghastly beyond words.
In an instant, the crowd was in utter panic, chaos breaking out everywhere.
With a scene like this, Qi Yun could not possibly control it.
Xu Ruizhi and the other wealthy ladies had gone deathly pale as well. Huddled in a corner, they no longer knew what to do.
“Everyone, calm down! Please, all of you, stay calm!” Qi Yun herself was extremely frightened, yet she still kept shouting at the crowd.
But no one was listening anymore. After such a fright, some were already sprinting away, trying to find a place they believed safe.
Seeing several corpses of the walking dead pounce in this direction, Xu Ruizhi nearly fainted on the spot.
At that very moment, a flash of white light cut through the air.
Those few walking corpses were instantly severed head from body, though they still thrashed on the ground afterward, making the wealthy ladies and the others feel a chill rise all over their bodies.
“Mister Chen!” Qi Yun cried first, relief finally loosening her face.
It was Chen Yuyi, arriving together with Shen Youlin. A streak of white light circled those walking corpses for a moment, and then they were either beheaded or cut cleanly in two. None of them could move anymore.
Seeing this, Zhao Lan finally sank heavily to the floor. So this Shen family son-in-law truly was that Mister Chen. How else could anyone wield such power?
Liang Bingyan’s eyes shone with boundless brilliance. Perhaps this man could truly help her.
Chen Yuyi’s arrival was like a deity descending from the heavens to those wealthy people. They were almost ready to kneel.
Beside Chen Yuyi, Shen Youlin lifted her chin proudly, as if telling everyone, This is my brother-in-law.
Xu Ruizhi stared in astonishment at her bargain son-in-law, finding it hard to believe that this was truly the same man.
“All of you, stand together!” Chen Yuyi said in a tone that brooked no argument.
Those who had been preparing to flee all came back at once, and everyone obediently gathered together.
A beam of white light flew over their heads, and then a shower of starlike radiance fell down upon them.
“This is our Shen family’s heirloom jade disk!” Xu Ruizhi recognized what it was above their heads, and was greatly puzzled as to how this item had ended up in her son-in-law’s hands.
But she was in no mood to think further. If this son-in-law could truly keep both mother and daughter safe, she would be grateful enough to burn incense to the heavens.
For the moment, no more walking corpses poured in. After a while, Chen Yuyi said, “All right, I’ve already erased the spiritual sight from your wrist bracelets. Now the walking corpses should not be able to sense you. Stay here and do not run about. I’ll set up a barrier to protect you in a moment.”
Then he turned to Shen Youlin. “You stay here too. I’ll be right back.”
“No, I want to go with you!” Shen Youlin said stubbornly.
Qi Yun came over and took her by the arm. “Miss Shen, staying by Mister Chen’s side will only distract him. Just stay with us. Mister Chen himself said we’ll be fine, so you can rest easy.”
Chen Yuyi nodded at her, then said to the others, “Did you all drink the medicinal water I gave you? If not, you’ll turn into those walking corpses too!”
So that was the reason Mister Chen had made them drink it. Several people immediately let out a huge sigh of relief, and their reverence for Chen Yuyi deepened even further.
But a few wealthy ladies turned as white as paper. In truth, when they had drunk it earlier, they had secretly spat the liquid out. Realizing this now, they felt that something was terribly wrong.
“Mister Chen, I haven’t drunk mine yet. Please, give me some more.”
“I haven’t either, Mister Chen. Please let us drink it again.”
“I don’t want to turn into a walking corpse. Mister Chen, save me!”
Qi Yun and the husbands beside them were taken aback. None of this had been expected.
The husbands of those wealthy women also realized how serious the situation was, and joined in begging Chen Yuyi as well.
Chen Yuyi could only sigh and take out another pill to break the curse, handing it to Qi Yun. “If there are any more omissions, I won’t bother again.”
Qi Yun nodded repeatedly and hurried off to dissolve it in water for them to drink.
Xu Ruizhi looked at her son-in-law, at a loss for words.
Chen Yuyi patted Shen Youlin’s little head. “Remember, don’t run around. Once I’ve dealt with that Master Zhong, I’ll be back.”
Shen Youlin obediently nodded. “Then I’ll wait for brother-in-law to take us home.”
After using the Great Luo Star Disk to form a barrier, Chen Yuyi vanished from everyone’s sight.
The wealthy ladies were already full of wonder, and all said to Xu Ruizhi, “Your Shen family actually found an immortal master as a son-in-law!”
To them, if that was not the work of an immortal master, what else could it be?
And the wealthy people who had already been shocked by Chen Yuyi before were even more overflowing with respect now.
They too approved of the title “immortal master.” Otherwise, how could he have cured a congenital meridian blockage with just two medicinal pills, and even turned an old woman into a young girl? Only an immortal master could possess such means. It seemed that from now on, he had to be addressed as Master Chen the Immortal.
Chen Yuyi went straight up to the top deck, because he already knew that Master Zhong had activated the formation there.
Several ship masts stood on the deck. On the highest mast stood a man.
His robes fluttered in the wind, his palms pressed together, his lips moving in constant incantation.
Meanwhile, strands of red light gathered from the masts and flowed into his body.
“Who dares to trespass on the top deck?” shouted a man with a small braid. It was Master Zhong’s first disciple.
Chen Yuyi gave him a cool glance. “Your arm actually grew back?”
“It’s you!” the braided man roared, baring his teeth in fury.
By now, the vessel had no idea where it had sailed. The river was blanketed in thick fog, and all around was a pall of mist. They were certainly no longer on a normal course.
Master Zhong slowly opened his eyes. “So it was you who injured my eldest disciple and killed my youngest?”
“That’s right. I even took out that Demon Blade Master too,” Chen Yuyi said with a faint smile, his hands clasped behind his back.
Master Zhong’s brows lifted slightly.
“So it was you who broke part of my spiritual formation just now.”
“You actually call that a spiritual formation?” Chen Yuyi said with a sneer. “It’s laughable. Nothing more than using the formation eye to drain the vitality of ordinary people for your own use. That is evil sorcery.”
“Haha. They did it willingly. You do not understand. I can throw out a few things at random and they will swarm toward them like moths to a flame. Even when I casually refine a bit of medicine from a corpse, they think it is an elixir and scramble to buy it. In truth, how could they know it is a corpse-cultivation pill? On the ship, I dissolved it into calming tea, and they all loved it to no end, even revering it as a divine brew. They never knew it was medicine to drain away their vitality, so that after death they would become my puppets.”
“In that case, you and your disciple may go meet each other in the underworld.”
