Chapter 135: Are You Seriously Counting on Ye Tianlin to Help You?
That very day, Zhao Shanhe was summarily dismissed from his position. His daughter, Zhao Qing, along with all their other related family members, was expelled as well.
Not long after the incident occurred, Ye Tianlin received accurate news of what had happened. He immediately contacted Zhao Shanhe personally and summoned him to the villa at Bishui Bay.
Upon learning of the situation, Zhao Shanhe was filled with gratitude. He was ready to repay the favor with his very life, and promptly set out with Zhao Qing. They drove to the villa at Bishui Bay.
However, after entering the villa, they found no sign of Ye Tianlin. Only Su Rulan remained, upstairs organizing belongings and cleaning.
The moment she saw them, Su Rulan hurried downstairs and invited them to sit on the sofa. She personally poured tea and served them water, displaying extraordinary warmth.
“Tianlin just took my father back to the hospital, so he probably won’t be returning here anytime soon. Before he left, he told me to make the decisions on his behalf. He insisted that you must have somewhere to rely on and that you must not be treated unfairly.” Su Rulan smiled warmly.
Zhao Shanhe was flattered beyond words. He froze while holding his teacup, his eyes growing slightly red.
“Rulan, thank you!” Zhao Qing sat beside him. Although she had known for some time that Su Rulan’s husband was Ye Tianlin, she had not seen Su Rulan in a while. She had never expected her to remain so approachable. Her kindness was like warmth in the midst of winter, deeply touching her heart.
Su Rulan waved her hand and smiled. “Zhao Qing, there’s no need to be so formal with me. You helped me many times in the past and rescued me from awkward situations on countless occasions. Now that I have the ability to help, how could I simply stand by and do nothing? As it happens, the position of vice president of the Yunhai Chamber of Commerce is currently vacant. Zhao Shanhe can take that position. As for you, Zhao Qing, you can become my assistant!”
Upon hearing this, Zhao Shanhe was so moved that he could barely contain himself. He quickly set down his teacup and dropped to his knees on the floor with a thud. His voice trembled with emotion.
“Young Master and Young Madam, our entire family is eternally grateful for such immense kindness!”
Su Rulan jumped in surprise and hurriedly extended a hand toward him. “What are you doing? There’s no need for such an elaborate display of gratitude. You’re going to frighten me!”
“This is only proper. We are servants to begin with. Zhao Qing, hurry and kneel with me to kowtow to Young Madam!” Zhao Shanhe refused to rise and gave Zhao Qing a meaningful look.
Zhao Qing nodded and knelt beside him. “That’s right. We were servants to begin with. Now that we have been cast out of the Ye family, Young Master has stepped forward to give us a chance to make a living and find a place in the world. As servants, we naturally must know how to show gratitude.”
Su Rulan grew anxious. “What servants? There’s no need for any of that here. Don’t make me seem like some ancient matriarch with countless rules.”
Zhao Shanhe replied solemnly, “Young Madam, without rules, there can be no order. These formalities are necessary. Servants are bound to obey their master, and therefore ought to kowtow in gratitude.”
With that, Zhao Shanhe pulled Zhao Qing down with him, and the two bowed deeply together.
Su Rulan had never received such treatment in her life. Her mind went blank, and only after a moment did she recover. She hurriedly said, “All right, all right! Get up, both of you!”
Seeing this, Zhao Shanhe slowly rose with Zhao Qing.
“Young Madam, we were too overcome with emotion just now and failed to ask—how is your health?” Zhao Shanhe inquired.
“Yes, I heard that you had been hospitalized, but I never had the chance to visit you!” Zhao Qing added, her face full of concern.
Su Rulan smiled faintly. “I was under too much pressure some time ago, and my body became very weak, so I had to be hospitalized. There’s nothing seriously wrong with me now. You don’t need to worry.”
“Young Madam, you are carrying Young Master’s child. You must take better care of yourself and avoid overexertion, lest you cause Young Master to worry. If anything were to happen to you, he would undoubtedly be deeply affected as well,” Zhao Shanhe advised.
At the mention of Ye Tianlin, Zhao Qing could not help giving a bitter smile. “It’s rather strange. Every time I’m about to meet Young Master, something gets in the way. Either work sends me elsewhere or I have to go on a business trip. To this day, I still haven’t seen what Young Master actually looks like.”
“You’ll see him tomorrow. Tianlin told me that the two of you can report to the Yunhai Chamber of Commerce tomorrow, so you won’t have to wait long,” Su Rulan replied brightly.
“Since Young Master won’t be returning soon, please convey our deepest gratitude to him on behalf of the entire Zhao family, Young Madam.” Zhao Shanhe clasped his hands and immediately bent forward at a ninety-degree angle.
Before long, Zhao Shanhe had to leave the villa at Bishui Bay to deal with some matters.
As for Zhao Qing, she remained at the villa and kept Su Rulan company. The two chatted happily, and Zhao Qing even took the initiative to help with the cleaning, afraid that Su Rulan might overexert herself. Their relationship was as close as that of sisters.
It was not until the afternoon, after the villa had been mostly tidied, that Zhao Qing drove away.
However, before she could even leave the villa compound, a Toyota Land Cruiser suddenly cut her off and forced her to stop by the roadside.
Furious, Zhao Qing stepped out of the car, ready to argue. But then a tall young man opened the door and got out, a hint of mockery at the corner of his mouth.
“Zhao Qing, it really is you! What are you doing at Bishui Bay? Don’t tell me you came here looking for me?” The young man adjusted his collar, looking every inch the spoiled young heir.
Zhao Qing recognized him at once and could not resist cursing. “Lin Kaiyang, are you out of your mind? I was driving perfectly well. Why did you deliberately cut me off? Who would come looking for you?”
“I’m only showing concern for you. Everyone in Jiangnan knows that you’re my woman,” Lin Kaiyang said with an eerie smile. He moved several steps closer, forcing Zhao Qing back against her car like a thug.
“Get away from me! I have nothing to do with you, so stop spouting nonsense!” Enraged and humiliated, Zhao Qing shoved him away, only to have Lin Kaiyang seize her hand.
Lin Kaiyang sneered. “I know all about your family’s current situation. After offending the old matriarch, you won’t be able to resolve the matter so easily.”
“How did you find out?” Zhao Qing asked, stunned.
Lin Kaiyang wore a proud expression. “Have you forgotten who my father is? How could something this trivial escape his ears?”
“We have plenty of options. We don’t need you to put on an act!” Zhao Qing struggled several times.
Lin Kaiyang held on tightly and mocked her. “Don’t tell me you’re still hoping that Ye Tianlin, that puppet of the financial consortium, will come to your rescue? Give me a break. It’s only a matter of time before the Ye family submits to the capital consortium. At this point, I’m probably the only one who can save your entire family. All I have to do is say a word to my father, and even the old matriarch will have to show some consideration. My family lives right here, as a matter of fact. Why don’t you come upstairs and keep me company?”
“You’re absolutely shameless. I truly can’t understand how someone as distinguished as your father could have produced a wastrel like you!” Zhao Qing spat in disgust, her stomach churning.
Yet Lin Kaiyang did not stop. Instead, he tried to lay his hands on her directly, his eyes filled with intense greed. Zhao Qing screamed in terror.
Several security guards from the villa compound heard her scream and rushed over. But the moment they saw that Lin Kaiyang was involved, their expressions changed in fear. They immediately pretended that nothing had happened and hurried away.
“Do you think screaming will help?” Lin Kaiyang said arrogantly. “Even if I have my way with you right here today, no one would dare point a finger at me!”
His filthy hand was just about to succeed.
Zhao Qing trembled from head to toe, despair spreading across her face.
At that critical moment, an old, battered sedan slowly passed by. Then, without warning, it stopped right in front of them.
