Chapter 30: Ye Tianlin Really Went to Buy a Car
As soon as he heard about going out to buy a car, Su Weimin was instantly invigorated. Their old car had been running for over ten years and was on the verge of being scrapped. Moreover, his uncle and cousin had both upgraded to Land Rover and BMW, which made Su Weimin’s desire to change cars even stronger. Unfortunately, most of the family’s money was in Su Ruolan’s hands. If she didn’t agree, it was useless no matter how much he pleaded—he could only envy others. Especially when it came to Uncle Su Zhengjun’s Land Rover Range Rover, its luxurious interior and comfortable seats were still vivid in his memory. Land Rover was, without question, his favorite brand.
He had thought the dream of a new car was out of reach, but now his son-in-law Ye Tianlin had boldly declared he would take him out to buy a car? If Su Weimin claimed he wasn’t excited, it would be a lie. But remembering Ye Tianlin’s illness, his enthusiasm quickly faded, and he slumped in his chair like a deflated balloon.
“You rascal, coming here early in the morning just to fool your father-in-law—I swear you’ll be the death of me,” Su Weimin’s lips twitched in annoyance, wishing he could kick Ye Tianlin off the balcony. This fool had been living off Su Ruolan for five years; how could he possibly have the money to buy a car? If he really went to the dealership, who knew what embarrassing scene might unfold.
Ye Tianlin anticipated this reaction and replied, “If you don’t come with me, how will you know whether it’s true or not?”
“As if I’d believe you! Isn’t it nicer to rest at home? If you want to go, go by yourself—I won’t go and humiliate myself with you,” Su Weimin said, full of disdain.
Seeing this, Ye Tianlin picked up the keys and waved them in his hand, “Fine, I’ll go myself. When I bring the car home, you can see it for yourself!”
“Whatever, I don’t care!” Su Weimin rolled his eyes.
“Alright, just wait and see!” Ye Tianlin turned and walked out the door.
A moment later, Su Weimin stood up and looked down from the balcony. Seeing Ye Tianlin walking farther and farther toward the edge of the neighborhood until he disappeared from sight, a sudden panic seized him.
“Oh no, that guy really went out. If he doesn’t come back, Ruolan will blame me for everything!” Su Weimin swallowed nervously and hurried downstairs to chase after him.
He searched several times, exhausted and out of breath, but still couldn’t find any trace of Ye Tianlin. He was so frightened he could hardly imagine what kind of expression Su Ruolan would have upon her return.
“It’s over, Ruolan is definitely going to be furious with me,” Su Weimin thought, his face pale with anxiety.
...
Meanwhile,
Su Ruolan had just arrived at the company, driving in. As soon as she entered, she was called into the office.
As expected, Zhao Qing had already arrived, holding a contract and sitting on the sofa in the office.
Old Master Su sat firmly in the main seat, his expression calm and betraying no surprise. He said blandly, “Su Ruolan, President Zhao has brought another contract. Take a look at it.”
Su Yicai stood beside him, speaking in a strange tone, “The contract is the same as before. You sure got lucky, but don’t think fortune comes so easily—you have to handle things properly!”
Su Ruolan was momentarily stunned, then took the contract to examine it. It was exactly the same as the previous ones; now there were four such contracts in total!
However, Su Ruolan felt no joy at this moment. She knew that Old Master Su would continue to control the company from behind the scenes, tightening his grip and forcing her to give up eventually.
With a bitter expression, Su Ruolan turned to Zhao Qing and expressed her thanks, “President Zhao, thank you for coming so many times to deliver the contract personally. Rest assured, I’ll do my best.”
Zhao Qing, apparently unaware of the underlying situation, smiled kindly, “This is all arranged by the chamber of commerce. I’m just following instructions. If you need anything, feel free to contact me—I’ll help you solve it.”
Soon, the contract was signed on the spot.
After Zhao Qing left, Old Master Su spoke solemnly, “Su Ruolan, you really are lucky, receiving four contracts in a row. But whether you can pass the test depends on your proposal—do it well!”
Su Yicai jeered, “That’s right, after all, it’s about the Su family’s reputation. The proposal must be strictly evaluated!”
Under immense pressure, Su Ruolan nodded, noticing that Uncle Su Zhengjun was absent from the office. She couldn’t help but ask, “Why didn’t Uncle come to work today?”
“My father isn’t feeling well and took a few days off, but that has nothing to do with you. Just focus on your own work,” Su Yicai replied bossily, unaware that Su Zhengjun took leave purely out of frustration.
“It’s obvious that these four consecutive contracts are a deliberate test from the young master of the Ye family, aimed at the Su family and at you in particular. I will not allow any mistakes—understood?” Old Master Su declared forcefully.
“I understand!” Su Ruolan bowed humbly at ninety degrees, then quietly left the office, closing the door behind her.
Watching Su Ruolan return to her work, Su Yicai felt smug and said, “Grandpa, did you see? When Su Ruolan received the fourth contract, her face didn’t show a hint of happiness.”
Old Master Su raised his hand for silence and replied calmly, “As expected. She’ll give up soon enough. These will all be yours eventually, unless Su Ruolan has the ability to start her own business!”
“With her? I’m guessing that once she leaves the company, she might not even be able to support herself, especially with Ye Tianlin dragging her down!” Su Yicai couldn’t help but throw his head back and laugh.
