The matriarch dropped into the chair and said irritably, “You don’t think I came here to apologize to you, do you?”

“I wouldn’t dare,” Su Ruan said, bowing slightly. “I’m already very happy that you came in person. Besides, I’m only a junior; I should know my place.”

Jiang Yingxia looked at her with utter disdain. “How very self-aware you are. What are you putting on a performance for? If you had even a shred of self-awareness, you should have divorced immediately instead of standing here pretending. Only Tianlin is foolish enough to be deceived and led around by you.”

“You...” Su Ruan’s heart tightened, and only then did she realize something was wrong.

The matriarch raised her hand and struck Su Ruan across the face.

“Ye Tianlin thinks that with the Jiangdu Consortium backing him from behind, he can stand against me. Little does he know that our Ye clan is about to welcome a major partnership. By then, even the Jiangdu Consortium will have to think twice before crossing us!”
