Chapter 150: Even If I, Cao Cao, Die in Battle Today
At this moment, the Chu army was under fierce attack.
Xu Chu fought valiantly, his great blade flashing as he cut down countless enemies, yet his infantry and cavalry were being slaughtered in great numbers due to dwindling strength. The critical danger lay ahead—Yu Jin's forces were approaching.
Surrounded and besieged, the remaining troops were gripped by fear.
Liang Gang held the flag aloft with one hand, clutching a short knife in the other. With a swift kick, he toppled an enemy and shouted, "Die!"
Roaring angrily, he drove his blade into the man’s chest.
Squelch!
Drawing his blade out, before Liang Gang could catch his breath, a voice shouted from behind, "General, watch out!"
Startled, Liang Gang turned just as two spears thrust toward him. With desperate effort, he parried one spear, but the other pierced straight into his abdomen.
"Ugh!"
Already wounded and pierced by an arrow, this spear inflicted excruciating pain, cold sweat breaking out across his forehead. Gritting his teeth, he howled, "Die with me!"
With that, he charged along the spear’s shaft.
Squelch!
A single slash beheaded the soldier.
He then knocked another enemy down, but Liang Gang felt his strength ebbing, his breath coming in ragged gasps. As he tried to pull out the spear, a sharp pain stabbed his back.
Two long halberds pierced through his armor.
A heart-wrenching scream escaped him. As the halberds were withdrawn, he knelt, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. Clutching the battle flag tightly, he refused to let it fall.
But he truly had no strength left.
Just as he closed his eyes, a fierce shout rang out. Chu Feng spurred his horse, cutting down a dozen foes before leaping down from his mount.
Looking at Liang Gang, drenched in blood, Chu Feng frowned.
Liang Gang had already borne many wounds before the battle even began, yet he continued to charge with the army. Now, gravely injured, he was beyond hope.
"My lord, the flag stands—your loyal soldier has no regrets. You must break through and protect my wife and children!" Liang Gang said, his words filled with trust.
Then, he collapsed.
The battle flag was about to fall.
Chu Feng rose, grabbed the flag with his left arm, planted his spear into the ground, vaulted back onto his horse, and raised his spear. Left arm holding the flag, right hand gripping the spear, his expression solemn, his armor soaked in blood.
He scanned the surroundings; the Cao army, sensing his return, had slightly eased their assault, shifting to defense. In the distance, Yu Jin’s troops drew near.
Chu Feng’s gaze darkened.
They had reached a desperate point, but he could not fall.
He had sacrificed everything for his legacy and would not let it be seized by Cao Cao in the end. His wives and concubines would be taken by Cao Cao if he failed.
"The enemy is ahead, not behind!"
"Why are you all looking back?"
Chu Feng shouted angrily, then commanded, "Everyone, follow my banner closely. Fight to the death! Kill!"
He raised the flag himself and led the charge on horseback. Xu Chu immediately followed, and the hundred or so Tiger Guards, though already halved in number, guarded his flanks.
"Kill!"
The remaining troops abandoned all distractions, ignoring Yu Jin’s forces behind them, and surged forward with Chu Feng.
This was a battle against time, with victory still uncertain.
Outside the battle lines, on the left and right wings, Gan Ning and Lü Meng burned with anxiety.
Their forces were already outnumbered by Cao’s army and could only hold them at bay. They had no chance to send reinforcements, and whether Chu Feng would break through was unknown.
Gan Ning was furious, wishing he could fight alongside Chu Feng.
Lü Meng was restless, puzzled by Chu Feng’s recklessness. So clever all his life, why risk himself so boldly? No one could aid him now.
In truth, Chu Feng’s survival depended solely on himself.
"Break through! Break through for me!"
Chu Feng became almost frenzied, roaring.
The command banner was stained deeply red with blood.
The Cao army’s formation was shattered in more than half.
With a mighty thrust of his spear, Chu Feng sent several men flying again. His chest heaved rapidly; his breath was heavy and coarse, his spirit impatient—he was almost there.
Chu Feng could feel his limits approaching.
Xu Chu was also battered, his great blade losing its former vigor, sweat soaking his body. The blade’s edge was nicked, and he hung on by sheer willpower.
Cutting down enemy generals, seizing flags, charging into the fray—
Others might fight briefly, but their leader was relentless. He was determined to kill Cao Cao; indeed, formidable!
"Get out of my way!"
Chu Feng swept his banner and drove back a dozen men, then leapt into their midst. His spear moved in wide arcs, felling countless soldiers.
This was the last well-formed line of defense.
Behind it, only hastily assembled ranks remained.
At last, at last, they broke through.
Chu Feng even suspected that Cao Cao had arranged over fifteen lines of formation in rotation—such organization was truly worthy of the Cao army. Yet this time, he had pierced through.
"Kill!"
A fierce gleam flashed in Chu Feng’s eyes.
Finally, he had broken through. His battle flag pointed defiantly at Cao Cao’s banner. He vowed to trample it beneath his feet and drive Cao Cao back.
Behind him, over a thousand remaining infantry and cavalry roared with suppressed fury, releasing all their rage. They were determined to break the enemy’s lines.
On the flanks, Gan Ning and Lü Meng watched Chu Feng charging deep into Cao’s army, both smiling with excitement. Their leader was incredible—he had managed to break in.
From their vantage point, the Cao army’s multiple defensive lines resembled an iron bucket.
If Cao Cao could be forced to retreat, chaos would surely erupt in his ranks, and a reversal of fortune might be possible.
With that thought, they both smiled broadly.
Meanwhile, Cao Cao’s camp was gripped by fear.
The generals, both civil and military, were stunned.
Yu Jin’s forces had already caught up, the slaughter about to begin. In such dire straits, Chu Feng had still broken through the lines and charged in.
Without the formations to hold him back,
Chu Feng’s cavalry could regain their speed. Like sheep among wolves, the outcome was uncertain.
Behind the army, chaos reigned. Various units scrambled to reorganize and form new defenses, but none could outpace Chu Feng.
"My lord, Chu Feng has the reckless bravery of Xiang Ji; he cannot be matched. Perhaps I should remain here to control the troops while you avoid the brunt of the attack," Xun You advised, frowning at the advancing Chu forces.
"Hmph! I am the commander of the three armies—how can I retreat?" Cao Cao snapped, brandishing his Heaven-Reliant Sword as he shouted, "All generals, capture the enemy at once!"
"I don’t believe a mere thousand or so remnants can defeat my three armies."
"Yes, sir!" the generals shouted in unison.
They were no fools and promptly obeyed.
Xun You worried still and urged, "My lord, Chu Feng is no mere trifle, but you, as commander, must not suffer misfortune."
"My mind is made up. Even if I die in this battle, I will not yield an inch!" Cao Cao glared fiercely. At his words, his guards roared in agreement.
Their leader was fearless; why should they be afraid?
A mere band of remnants—they would be cut down to the last man.
