Chapter 118: This "Free Ride"

Gu Weiyu reached out and gripped the rock face, slowly climbing upward.
Below her flowed searing magma. Above, aftershocks came one after another, frequently sending rocks and sand tumbling down.
She had no idea how long it took before she finally climbed out. Her face and body were drenched in sweat, and she collapsed onto the ground, panting heavily and looking utterly disheveled, sprawled there like a dead fish.
“Huff—huff—”
Aside from the occasional strange sound echoing through the depths, the only thing that could be heard was Gu Weiyu’s labored breathing.
“A-Yu, are you all right?” Little Sprout asked anxiously, crawling over to her side.
“If you had… if you had listened to me and left sooner, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Gu Weiyu was in a terrible mood. Still panting, she spoke in exasperation.
“All right, then. Let’s go.”
Knowing she was in the wrong, Little Sprout wilted her leaves and reluctantly conceded.
It really had been her fault that A-Yu had nearly fallen just now.
Little Sprout felt rather miserable. A-Yu was angry with her—what was she supposed to do?
Gu Weiyu let out a sigh of relief. At last, the little troublemaker was willing to leave!
After resting for a while and catching her breath, she hauled herself up from the ground. “It isn’t safe here. Let’s go.”
With that, Gu Weiyu headed outside. Little Sprout, still reluctant to leave, dawdled along behind her.
“Little Sprout—”
Seeing this, Gu Weiyu grew anxious and reached out to pull her along.
Just then, a sudden change occurred above them.
A gigantic tail swept down from overhead, sending countless stones and clouds of sand flying as it lashed straight toward them.
“A-Yu, look out behind you!”
Little Sprout’s leaves instinctively curled into a tight ball. Clearly, she had seen something terrifying.
Gu Weiyu twisted around—and saw layer upon layer of razor-sharp scales growing larger before her eyes—larger and larger—
An immense force struck them, flinging her and Little Sprout high into the air together with the sand and stones from the cavern floor.
Gu Weiyu did not even have time to cry out before the colossal tail swept her mercilessly out of the underground cavern like autumn wind scattering fallen leaves.
While she was still soaring through the air, the enormous tail struck again.
Gu Weiyu and Little Sprout were swung away like a shot put, vanishing in an instant without a trace.
The giant tail slowly withdrew. In the depths of a shadowy cavern, a colossal creature resembling a crocodile lay coiled in silence.

It leisurely flicked its enormous tail. Its golden eyes were as large as bronze gongs, and its body was covered in thick, oversized scales.
The beast appeared to be thirty feet tall and fifty feet long. Before it, Gu Weiyu was no more than an ant.
“How noisy!”
Those two little crawling pests had been truly noisy. At last, they had finally quieted down again.
The crocodile beast shook its head in an almost humanlike manner, a faint rumbling purr rising from its throat.
Then it rolled over, causing the ground to tremble, and once more sank into slumber.
Gu Weiyu had no idea that she had been rejected by a demon beast. At that moment, she was hurtling through the air at tremendous speed.
Little Sprout had wrapped herself tightly around her entire body and did not dare loosen her hold for even an instant.
After quite some time, their speed gradually began to slow. Gu Weiyu hurriedly summoned Qing Tuan and sprawled across it in a starfish-like position.
That giant beast had been far too terrifying!
In the brief glimpse she had managed to catch, she had seen only a tiny part of its true form—but it was undoubtedly a monstrous demon beast of unimaginable size.
Even the aura it had casually allowed to escape had chilled her to the marrow.
“Whoosh—”
The autumn wind brushed against her cheeks, bringing a trace of coolness.
Gu Weiyu slowly closed her eyes. Her wildly pounding heart gradually began to calm.
“A-Yu—A-Yu—”
Little Sprout loosened the vines wrapped around Gu Weiyu and called out repeatedly. “Are you all right?”
Beneath her closed eyelids, Gu Weiyu’s eyes shifted faintly, but she did not open them.
She was in a very bad mood and did not want to deal with this little troublemaker at all.
This time, she was determined to give Little Sprout a proper cold shoulder and see whether she understood her mistake.
“A-Yu, I was wrong…”
Little Sprout pressed her tender leaves against Gu Weiyu’s arm and swayed them back and forth, her voice soft, sweet, and childlike.
Gu Weiyu gave a cold snort inwardly, firmly resisting the attack of this “sugar-coated bombardment.”
When Little Sprout saw that the methods which had always worked before were failing completely, her tender leaves drooped once more.
Her voice grew soft and pitiful, delicate and faint. “A-Yu, don’t be angry anymore, all right? Please—please?”
Gu Weiyu remained unmoved. Blocking out Little Sprout’s incessant coaxing like a chanting prayer, she extended her spiritual sense to inspect the surrounding area.

She had already left the outskirts of the forest sea where she had originally been.
As far as her spiritual sense could reach, towering trees stretched endlessly into the distance. For a while, she was unable to determine her exact location.
There were countless powerful demon beasts within the Beast Sea. She had encountered such a formidable monster even while traveling through its outer regions.
Now that she had entered unfamiliar territory, she dared not investigate recklessly.
After hurriedly surveying her surroundings, she withdrew her spiritual sense and sat up. “Qing Tuan, let’s go that way.”
Gu Weiyu knew that Qin Commandery lay to the north. As long as she chose the right direction and kept heading north, she would surely be able to leave the Beast Sea.
She selected an area with a relatively open view and climbed down from Qing Tuan. The Beast Sea was exceedingly dangerous, and she did not dare take the slightest risk.
Seeing that Gu Weiyu continued to ignore her, Little Sprout grew dejected and burrowed into Gu Weiyu’s dantian.
Once Little Sprout had quieted down, Gu Weiyu immediately transferred the unknown giant beast’s droppings from her storage ring into a separate storage pouch. Only then did she feel considerably more at ease.
She looked around and, after finding nothing unusual, proceeded alone, slowly treading over dead branches and fallen leaves.
Faint cracking sounds rose beside her ears, occasionally mixed with the calls of insects and birds.
She continued onward for several dozen miles. Apart from encountering a few second-tier demon beasts, the journey remained peaceful.
“Is this the abyss within the Beast Sea?”
After traveling for an entire day and night, Gu Weiyu found a bottomless abyss before her.
Not a blade of grass grew around it. Even standing near its edge, she could feel a bone-deep chill rushing toward her.
She had never imagined that a single sweep of that giant beast’s tail would fling her and Little Sprout hundreds of miles away!
Once she crossed this abyss, she would not be far from Qin Commandery.
At the thought, Gu Weiyu’s heart surged with excitement. She could hardly wait to return to Qin Commandery.
She wanted to see whether the clansmen of Green Mountain Stronghold were safe, whether her parents were in good health, and whether everyone in the Gu Residence remained unharmed.
For some unknown reason, the skies above this abyss in the Beast Sea were forbidden to flight. Any flying vessel, spirit tool, or magical treasure would cease to function upon reaching the area above it.
Even when flying on a sword, the moment one drew near the abyss, the sword would lose control and plunge headfirst into its depths.
Therefore, anyone wishing to cross the abyss could only follow its sheer cliffs down to the bottom, cross over to the opposite side, and then climb back up along the cliffs.
