Chapter Ninety: Picking Up the Bargain Left Behind
At dawn the next day, the three of them packed their belongings and, with remarkable tacit understanding, set off in the direction where the multicolored radiance had appeared the day before.
Entering the Secret Realm of Boundless Void, gathering spiritual materials was only one part of the purpose; the most important thing was still the Seven-Treasure Trial Tower.
Many cultivators had seen the rainbow light yesterday, and the number of people the three encountered along the way gradually increased as well. Clearly, everyone’s destination was converging on the same place.
With more people came more quarrels and accidents.
“I saw this spiritual herb first!”
“It was obviously closer to me; it should be mine!”
Gu Weiyu glanced at the two cultivators up ahead, glaring at each other as though they were fighting cocks, and continued forward without looking aside, following Xu Weizhou and Gu Weilan.
Disputes were clearly increasing. There were only so many spiritual herbs and materials to go around; once cultivators became numerous, conflict was inevitable.
“Everyone’s becoming a little too restless,” Gu Weiyu said softly.
“That’s just how the world of cultivators is. If one wants to improve strength, one has to fight for everything,” Gu Weilan said with a sigh.
“Hummingbird Flower!” Xu Weizhou’s voice rang out coldly.
Gu Weiyu and the others looked into the undergrowth. Clusters of frost-colored flowers were quietly blooming.
A flower-patterned civet beast was crouched in the grass nearby, half asleep.
The three exchanged a glance. Xu Weizhou and Gu Weilan moved in perfect understanding to deal with the civet beast, while Gu Weiyu quietly slipped to the side of the flowers and began digging.
Noticing the human cultivators approaching, the civet beast sprang from the grass, bared its sharp claws and fangs, and attacked.
Especially after it discovered that the food it cherished had actually been dug up in secret, its assault became even fiercer.
Who would have thought that this seemingly unremarkable civet beast was actually a second-tier demon beast?
Out of the corner of her eye, Gu Weiyu caught sight of the civet beast’s lightning-quick movements and accelerated her own digging even more.
What?
Gu Weiyu was working hard, huffing as she dug out the herb, when she suddenly felt a fierce gust of wind strike from behind. Instinctively, she flung a twin thunder strike backward.
She quickly turned her head and saw that the civet beast, who knew when, had broken through the siege of the two sisters and actually appeared behind her!
So coincidentally, it was struck by her twin thunder attack. Caught off guard, its whole body crackled with sparks, trembling as it tumbled from midair into the grass.
Just as the three were about to surround it, that sly beast twisted nimbly through the grass and fled!
“Stop!”
Before Gu Weiyu could even smile, she saw her fourth sister, Gu Weilan, glaring past her with eyes that seemed to spit fire.
She instinctively turned to look.
Good heavens. Beside the patch of Hummingbird Flowers she had not yet dug up, three other people had actually appeared, busily and deftly digging them up.
In just a moment, the remaining flowers had all been taken.
They were the ones who had dealt with the civet beast, and these three fellows had the nerve to come and pick up the leftovers? They would have to see whether the three of them agreed!
“Fourth Sister, let’s give them a little color to see!”
Gu Weiyu drew out her wooden sword and charged at them together with Gu Weilan.
Xu Weizhou said nothing and simply chose another direction, attacking them from three sides.
Seeing this, the three who had been secretly pleased also pulled out their weapons, and in an instant all six were locked in combat.
The moment they exchanged blows, the three opportunists regretted it so deeply that their intestines seemed to turn green. This... these three were far too strong, weren’t they?
At first they had thought there was only one male cultivator among them, while the other two were merely women, which was why they had dared to harbor greed. Who could have imagined that these two female cultivators would be so ferocious?
“Stop— stop! We’re not fighting anymore— not fighting anymore—” The frailest of the three could not hold out any longer. Faced with the longsword pressing toward his face, he raised both trembling hands and called for a ceasefire.
The other two, seeing this, hurriedly chimed in in a bid to curry favor. “We don’t want those herbs anymore. They’re all yours!”
“They were ours to begin with!” Gu Weiyu said angrily. “Hurry up and hand them over!”
The three exchanged glances and slowly began to take out the Hummingbird Flowers.
“This one, and that one. Three in all were ruined by you. You have to compensate us!”
After inspecting them carefully, Gu Weiyu discovered that such precious spiritual herbs had actually been damaged, and her heart ached terribly.
The three men’s faces immediately fell. What sort of disaster was this?!
“You going to pay or not?” Gu Weilan’s voice was cool, her longsword poised as if eager to move.
Xu Weizhou stood to the side, his gaze as sharp as a blade as he looked at them, as though staring at three corpses.
How could the three of them withstand such pressure? They instantly and obediently produced some of the spiritual herbs they had gathered in the secret realm.
Gu Weiyu snorted and gathered the herbs on the ground without the slightest politeness. “Get lost!”
Hearing her words, the three felt as though they had been granted amnesty and ran off at top speed.
With this little incident, the three became even more cautious on the road ahead.
After all, the ones they had encountered this time were only three small rabble. If they met someone evenly matched, it was still uncertain whether they would be able to get their own things back.
“Look!” When Gu Weiyu rounded a mountain and saw a tall tower standing in the valley below, she could not help but cry out in excitement.
Xu Weizhou and Gu Weilan stood atop the mountain peak, looking down at the tower below.
“The Seven-Treasure Trial Tower!”
So this was the famed Seven-Treasure Trial Tower?
The three of them simultaneously fixed their gaze on the towering structure.
The tower seemed about seven or eight zhang high, rising straight into the heavens. In shape, it did not differ much from the towers found outside.
By daylight it looked quite ordinary, and the radiance they had seen last night had already vanished without a trace.
They could also see that not far from the Seven-Treasure Tower, many cultivators had already gathered in one place.
Xu Weizhou’s usually expressionless face seemed to show a trace of something unusual, but after a moment he returned to his indifferent state. “Let’s go.”
The three of them descended the mountain together and soon arrived in the valley.
From a distance it had not seemed so remarkable, but the closer they came to the Seven-Treasure Trial Tower, the more they could feel a strange and mysterious fluctuation.
“Senior Brother Xu— Junior Sister Lian— we’re here—”
Gu Weiyu had been wandering aimlessly through the valley when she heard a familiar voice calling from not far away.
Turning her head, she saw a group of disciples from the Sword Peak Sect gathered by the maple grove on the right side of the valley, with Wangu standing among them, waving vigorously in their direction.
“Senior Brother Wangu—”
Gu Weiyu and the others walked over as well. After a quick look around, Gu Weiyu noticed that Lin Haoran and Liu Ruyan were both there too.
It seemed the three of them must have been relatively close together and had probably met long ago.
“And this is?” Wangu’s gaze fell on Gu Weilan, lingering over the mask on her face.
“Senior Brother Wangu, this is my cousin from my clan,” Gu Weiyu introduced her from the side. “Fourth Sister, these are all fellow disciples from my Sword Peak Sect.”
Gu Weilan gave a faint nod and stood quietly to the side without speaking. Her nature had always been like this.
Gu Weiyu smiled. “My Fourth Sister is actually very nice.”
Wangu: “...”
Whether she was nice or not, he did not know. He only felt that Gu Weiyu and her sister truly were sisters indeed, with aesthetics equally bizarre.
