Chapter 122: Inspection

Ye Zhong sat opposite Doctor Lu at his desk. On the table lay a thumb-sized silver-white metal cone with a small hole in its center, embedded in the composite material surface. Above this tiny aperture floated countless colorful spectral lines, seemingly chaotic to outsiders. These lines intertwined and twisted like slender, multicolored worms, endlessly chasing and playing above the hole.
Doctor Lu’s brows were tightly furrowed as he silently stared at the vibrant lines without blinking. The more he studied them, the deeper his frown grew, until he finally lowered his head to contemplate. These spectral lines represented the conclusive feedback from Ye Zhong’s extensive examinations and served as the basis for Doctor Lu’s judgment.
Ye Zhong refrained from disturbing him, sensing that he was wrestling with a difficult problem. Being a layman in this matter, Ye Zhong knew he could offer little help and instead began chatting with Mu.
After more than ten minutes, Doctor Lu cleared his throat softly, drawing Ye Zhong’s attention away from his conversation with Mu.
Ye Zhong kept a calm expression as he looked at Doctor Lu, though unease stirred within him. The torment caused by this strange illness was so severe that even a resilient man like himself sometimes entertained the grim thought of ending his own life.
Doctor Lu’s face turned serious. “Alright, now let’s discuss your condition.”
Ye Zhong nodded slightly, his face betraying no urgency. “Please, go ahead.” Such composure was something Doctor Lu had only seen in those who knew they suffered from incurable diseases and had resigned themselves completely. Nowadays, with advanced medicine, so-called terminal illnesses were rare; over the years, Doctor Lu had encountered only a handful of such cases. The calmness in those patients had left a deep impression on him.
“Of course, this is only an initial examination. These spectral lines serve as a reference, not a final diagnosis. We also need to consider your specific circumstances,” Doctor Lu said cautiously.
“Understood,” Ye Zhong replied with a nod.
Doctor Lu’s expression wavered briefly before he said, “Your case is somewhat unusual.”
“Oh?”
“Looking at the holographic spectral graph, your entire body appears extraordinarily healthy. Many indices surpass those of average people by several times—sometimes even tenfold. For example, your muscle explosiveness and the toughness of your muscle fibers. You are essentially a superhuman! This is one of the reasons I find your case so perplexing. Your physical qualities far exceed the limits recognized by current authoritative institutions. Unfortunately, I am not an expert in this area; otherwise, I would not let you slip away,” Doctor Lu smiled.
Ye Zhong listened attentively.
“There are many significant anomalies in your spectral lines compared to normal individuals, making diagnosis very challenging. I can only offer judgments based on my expertise. Though there are many abnormalities, what draws my attention most is the strange behavior of your Smar curve between zones 1 and 4. I personally believe this might be the root cause of your discomfort. Of course, this is only one possibility. The human body is incredibly complex; even subtle changes can cause anomalies in these spectral lines. Moreover, your body exhibits quite a few irregularities.”
“Smar curve?” Ye Zhong was unfamiliar with this technical term.
“Well, explaining the Smar curve is complicated. It mainly relates to the endocrine system and hormones. From the curve, it seems you may have experienced adverse reactions caused by some hormone intake. As a physician, I admit ‘may’ is not rigorous terminology, but at present, I can find no better way to describe it,” Doctor Lu said, a slight blush coloring his face.
“Hormones?” Ye Zhong’s mind stirred.
“Yes. Although I cannot pinpoint other issues, I am certain you must have used hormones or hormone-like substances. This is the field I specialize in, and my mentor is an authority in this domain.”

“That’s possible!” Ye Zhong recalled the silver liquid he had used in Black Horn and proceeded to describe its characteristics, his sensations after use, and the various symptoms he had experienced. Doctor Lu listened carefully, occasionally asking questions.
After much thought, Doctor Lu finally wore an apologetic expression. “Sir, I am certain your adverse symptoms are related to this silver liquid you mentioned. However, I have never heard of any hormone capable of blocking brainwaves. I am not even sure whether this silver liquid qualifies as a hormone. Furthermore, your condition is too complex and beyond my capabilities. But I can recommend my teacher to you. I believe he might be able to uncover the true nature of your condition.”
“Your teacher?”
“Yes!” Doctor Lu’s face showed reverence. “My teacher’s surname is Wang. He is one of the authorities in this field. Moreover, he has profound knowledge in other human sciences, which I think will greatly help with your illness.”
“Oh. How can I find your teacher?”
“Well, I haven’t seen him in many years, but unless something unexpected happened, he should still be at the Blaze Star Medical Directorate. You can try looking for him there. His name is Wang Weixing, quite famous. You should find him easily on the virtual net—provided you can pass the Directorate’s level-five examination and be allowed to leave the Orbital Zone. As far as I know, there are no experts of his caliber within the Orbital Zone itself. Of course, I cannot rule out the possibility of some hidden masters existing here,” Doctor Lu said, though his tone clearly doubted the presence of such masters in the Orbital Zone.
“The Directorate’s examination? Level five?” Ye Zhong had never heard of this.
Doctor Lu looked at Ye Zhong in surprise. “Really? You didn’t know?”
“Well, I just arrived recently.”
“That explains it!” Doctor Lu suddenly understood and explained, “To leave the Orbital Zone, you must be escorted by a cosmic ship. All cosmic ships are controlled by the Guild of Artificers. For those wishing to leave the Orbital Zone, the Guild has decreed that only those who pass their level-five examination can be sent off by the cosmic ships to return to the five major star regions.”
“Oh!” Ye Zhong began to grasp the situation and asked, “What does the examination entail?”
“You take tests in your strongest areas, but very few pass—only a handful each year. I have never seen anyone succeed,” Doctor Lu said.
“I see, then goodbye!” Ye Zhong said, turning to leave.
“Goodbye!” Doctor Lu was momentarily stunned but quickly responded. Watching Ye Zhong’s solitary figure recede, Doctor Lu suddenly recalled that this man was an undisputed killing demon. His heart leapt, cold sweat streaming down his back. However, seeing Ye Zhong walk further away without looking back, he breathed a long sigh of relief, silently grateful he had not provoked the killing god.
“Mu, do you think what he said is correct?” Ye Zhong asked.
“My knowledge in this area is limited; I can’t judge. But I’m certain he didn’t lie,” Mu replied.
“Not lying?” Ye Zhong asked curiously. “How can you tell?”
“Based on psychological data I gathered, when a person lies, their heartbeat, blood flow, and brainwave intensity change noticeably. He remained perfectly normal throughout, which is why I conclude he told the truth,” Mu explained calmly.

“Is that method reliable?” Ye Zhong questioned skeptically.
“If the data I collected is accurate,” Mu added, “Of course, with training, people can reduce these signs, but it’s nearly impossible to eliminate them entirely. This theory is widely accepted in psychology and considered quite credible.”
“Hmm, if it’s correct, that’s a useful way to tell,” Ye Zhong mused, then smiled. “I never thought Dang would collect such useful information—that’s surprising!”
“Based on what you just said, Dang is currently refuting it point by point below. Want to listen?” Mu’s tone unusually took on a human touch, showing keen interest in Dang’s chatter.
Just thinking about Dang’s incessant talking gave Ye Zhong a headache. “No, thanks! That would likely trigger my strange illness. I don’t want to collapse here!”
“Ye, you forgot to pay!” Mu reminded him.
“Uh, payment—that’s a headache! Got any good ideas?” Ye Zhong asked.
“Nope!” Mu answered bluntly.
“Then forget it!” Ye Zhong shrugged indifferently and walked toward the door without looking back. Life had been calm on Blue Sea Star, and Ye Zhong had tried to adapt to ordinary customs. But after a series of battles, he realized strength was the key to survival. So-called social customs were useless to him. Now in the Orbital Zone, with chaotic struggles and fights for survival, he felt as if he had returned to the Trash Planet. Only this time, his foes were not mutant creatures, but humans like himself.
Those social habits had always been shallow in Ye Zhong’s heart and were long discarded.
Calling forth his fish, Ye Zhong returned to the cockpit. The door was too small, so he flew toward the hole he had smashed when entering.
Just as he exited, disaster struck!
Suddenly, countless white lights flashed before his eyes. Ye Zhong was caught off guard; his vision instantly turned white, as if blinded.
Not good!
Bang—a loud explosion! Ye Zhong felt as if riding a cloud, being thrown violently in an unknown direction.
He had walked into an ambush! At last, Ye Zhong understood.
